Department of General Musings

I think sending a scouting GS towards the capital first makes sense. It will be a lot easier taking down a size 8 city undefended. :D ...then iron!

so what is the plan?
do we take out the iron first? or the town?
or a scouting force?
or one might ask, why should i care??
well, says i, you should know all bout the benjamins!
and me own treble trouble triple trifle.

nuff booze talk.

kill em first, let Meleet sort 'em after!!

I think that the plan depends on what the have done during their turn.

  • If the empty town is abandoned,
    • scout the capital's defense with a GS from the southern stack
    • if capital empty,
      • send all troops that way
    • else
      • move to iron city
    • end if
  • else
    • take (read raze) empty city
    • see above for troops left over
  • end if

Excellent program Tubbs. That is precisely how we'll execute.

:salute: Consider it done. Unless Rik wasn't kidding about the 'nut DoW on us. :crazyeye:

Alright, this is a Stratigic question about victory.

Regarding the placement of our cities in TNT Scout says...

"@KB: This is as good a thread as any to post these ideas. My current thinking is to take your northern dot and plant a town 1NE of that spot...and plant another ON the iron hill. Since these will be woefully corrupt 'specialist farms', there's not a need for a lot of land - just enough to grow the towns.

The placement would be a nice, tight, defensible zone... with defensive bonuses of a hill in the center and the river on the flanks. A Trebuchet in the center could move to either flank and fire on the same turn...

At least, that's my current thinking.
"

This makes very good tactical sense; but this leads to questions in my mind.

What kind of victory are we going for?

If, as Bugs says "population is power," then making a large, well-functioning province of the (soon to be) former TNT holdings makes sense. That would involve Jumping our palace to that Island to handle corruption and a large commitment of military forces for defense.

It also makes a domination victory possible, especially if we could time the 'flowering' of the "New and Improved TNT" after we and our (hopeful) Nut allies are engaged against MIA; since I am confident given the Nuts need to address their economy that we could grab far more of MIA's land than they could.

This course also leaves Space and Conquest open as paths to our certain and glorious victory.

If, as Scout's proposal would seem to indicate, our city placement is a lux/GA beachhead that, as Crakie reasonably proposed, could be abandoned at need, then it would seem that we are setting up a bi-polar world with KISS on one continent and Nuts on the other.

If that is the case it seems that Conquest or Space are the only possible forms of victory.

I am wondering...
A) is my assesment correct? (Understand I have made certain long-term assumptions about how things would play out).

B) Have we decided what the best path for victory is? Or, are we pursuing a certain goal at this point.

Personally, I favor a 'poplulation is power' appraoch that has a large KISS empire spanning the globe. Nothing would warm my heart more than to see eight size 12 cities in former TNT land. But I realize that I lack the experience/skill to effect that result (corruption and defense being HUGE problems, not to mention a possible dog-pile). I guess I just like dark green enough to desire seeing it spread across Rik and what's not to like about reproducing [for more information, PM Tubby Rower]. Therefore that is my sentimentally favorite approach.

Sorry for the long post, I just figure that this discussion may need to take place before we do too much city planting on TNT.

KB

PS - I agree with the logic of Scout's proposal; it makes perfect sense given defense requirements. Moreover, I am comfortable with that proposal as a prudent course of action. As in all things, I just want to understand better how this fits into our plan for victory.

Is it in the rules where we could induce TNT to defect to KISS?

It sounds like they have a small group of comitted players that are pretty unhappy about the situation in general and their dynamic in particular. Might they be convinced to turn over their cities to us and let us raze the capitol?

I don't know if that is possible (personality wise) or permissable (rule wise). But IF it is, it makes domination a VERY attractive possibility - a ready made nation on Battle Isle (okay, defense would be an immediate concern, but hey, pop IS power).

To throw out discussion points, while I would LOVE to persue a path that makes domination a possiblity, here are the downsides that I see.

1) Corruption. I THINK it could be handled with a palace jump, but Tubby and other MMers would have to shed light on that. Nevertheless, it would take time to effect that jump, and in the meanwhile we suffer.

2) Defesne. The nice thing about having a compact, well developed empire is that it is more easily defended. The attacker not only has the element of surprise, but unless he is a total idiot, an overwhelming balance of force in the area of combat HE has chosen. That local preponderance is a huge advantage IMO and always belongs to the intelligent attacker.

A Domination victory would require not only reasonable defense on two continents, but also credible reaction forces to meet an attackers local advantage AND a credible attack force of our own. Hard, but I don't think impossible.

3) Politics. The dog-pile. Always the dog-pile. TNT attacked first in the game cementing their reputation as jerks, but we have done it best, making us the most feared. I appreciate D'Nuts coopoeration, but I don't have a feel for diplomacy with them enough to know if that is solid. I think that it won't take much for MIA to convince them to turn on us out of self preservation.

Those are the pitfalls of Domination as I see them. I don't think any are insurmountable, but then I am an idiot.

Okay, I have more thoughts, but this is a busy week for me, and I SHOULD be doing some other things. More later.

@Kickbooti: You raise an important issue - one of strategy. If we want to pursue domination as a potential win condition... we've arrived at an important juncture.

You and Daghda raise an important point - my proposal for tight placement on the beach head might run counter to that strategic goal.

We're about to start a weekend... and I wonder if we ought to continue this discussion here...or start a thread on this topic... so we can hash it out...

I see pros and cons to both... perhaps the biggest issue is that our most likely (and most dangerous) enemy is right at our doorstep.

@Team: Sorry for the double post. I posted a New Thread for discussing whether or not...and/or how... to grab enough tiles from TNT to pursue Domination as a win condition.

Welcome Wosret. I trust that you will be able to make yourself comfortable in our idiodic home.

As far as I know, most of our idiocy comes from north of the equator - so if it is idiocy here does that mean it is brialliant south of the equator and vica versa.

That, and other stupifying observations are what await you. Welcome.

I see we have a new member on our idiotic crew.

Welcome El Justo. And may I say, any friend of Alfred T. Mahan is a friend of mine.

I think A.T. Mahan would be proud of our amphibious landings and control of the western strait. A perfect example of the influence of sea power on (Meleetian) history.

An example worthy of an in-depth monograph. Think Igor's up to it?:mischief:

Dr. Igor? Up to it? The inventor of the floating piece of wood that you could stand on? The contemplator of rock tossing machines? The new head of the University of Simpleton (did we build that yet?) history department?

:hmm:

No.

He's an idiot just like the rest of us.

How about a comic book version?

Well, the OP said anything goes here, so I think this is the right place to put this:

Since I'm new, could someone explain to me what's going on? I've gathered some knowledge; I know we're at war with TNT and winning, I think. I have enough time to get involved in this because it really interests me so I want to learn as much about it as I can. :)

Sorry if I'm being a nuisance.

ooooh that's an ugly helmet cody :shake:..... you need an orange one with a tiger paw on it. On the evening of Oct 26, ESPN will host the football game. :)

Welcome Mr. Genius. I'm an idiot.
Cody don't mind Tubby none. He went to Climpson so he's got issues.

The nuts and bolts are we governed as an anarchy. No Rules are good rules.

We started the game making friends with MIA (greeks to our south on our continent) and sharing techs. Donuts (Iroquois) and TNT (Persia) had an early despotic GA war. This set both of them back a bit.

When our deal with MIA was done there was some controversy when they gifted TNT into the MA's so they could both share free techs due to their scientific trait. This angered us mightily.

We have made the right friends now in Donut. We have an agreement to share techs, research, defensive pact agreement till the end of the MA's.

In the meantime, we split borders and made peace for 50 more turns with MIA just before April Fool's Day. April Fool's Day, a great day for all idiots really, :mischief: we declared war on TNT. They are now in a world of hurt because 2 or 3 turns ago Donut declared on them and are rambling through their jungle cities.

Ultimately this indirectly hurts MIA because their partner is toast. We are trying to get Donut to make MIA believe Donut is stabbing us in the back by trading with Donut. This is a developing situation.

Most of our diplomacy is done on IM. I'm at bawhompATyahooDOTcom if you want to hook us with some of us. The out of game activities are just as interesting as the in game activities. Recently, our Grumpy old men have played most of our turns. Scoutsout, Grahamiam and Bugsy.

Feel free to ask questions in any thread to get up to speed. Most of the threads you'd want to read are either stickied or have had posts within the last few weeks though some of the are pretty funny.

Did I give a good summary for Cody the brainiac?
