Depletion of resources?

I read that every resource gets depleted exept rubber and horses. But I have been playing the same game for a day now and the iron resources are still there. Do they stay on map for a long time or what. Does it matter how I use them? And for how long do they stay before they desapear?

Once they are connected to the trade network, there is a percent chance each turn that they will disappear. Different resources have different %. Sometimes you get lucky and they stay there the whole game.

Actually, I don't believe that they have to be connected. There is a fixed probability it will disappear, and nothing the player does changes that.

somtimes the resurce disapears and apear in the same tile

The way I understand it is that if the tile the resource is on never has a road on it, it will not deplete. But if there has been a road on that tile at all, then it can deplete.

Just a road makes more sense than connected.

If it didn't require a trigger, nobodys mods would have the resources where they put them by the time you discovered the tech.

Interesting thought. Do the resorces deplete before you know about them if you build a road on that tile? You should be able to tell from peoples made maps. If they do, then do you really want to clear all that jungle?

AFAIK, they stay put until the owner has the required tech to see them. Modders would probably know if that is not correct.

I wasn't fully awake and didn't think that earlier comment thru properly. Obviously, discovery of the tech is the main trigger but there must be a secondary trigger.

assume: lone isolated city, not connected to main trade network, iron in its radius, main trade network has 1 iron also. Under this condition, all cities connected to the trade network will indicate 1 iron. When the iron is connected via road to the isolated city, it alone will indicate 2 iron in the strategic resource box for that city only.

Since the game knows where each resource is (trade advisor), and it cannot be used unless connected to 'some' city, and i doubt they disappear when nobody knows the required tech, it is now my opnion that the one and only trigger for resource deletion is if the trade advisor knows about it.

I think it will show only one iron, the iron in its radius. It does not get the second from the trade network, as it is not conected. Does not really change your argument though.

So in the above example the iron next to the isolated city would not deplete? Interesting. I think a test would be in order. I shall try and have a play soon.

In that example the isolated city will show 2 iron. If the iron disappears from the isolated city it will show no iron. I have no idea why it works that way and perhaps it worked different in pre-C3C versions.

Really? A bit odd, but I stand corrected.
