depression - deal with mine

I'm going through a pretty rough time myself for this past month right now, I doubt I'm actually depressed, but I feel pretty rotten regardless.

What's helped me most so far is my friends, I've found a couple of them who I can talk to about my problems, and even if they can't actually help or understand it does feel good to vent my issues to someone.

Find an activity that can take your mind off things and gives you something to focus on, think up possible goals and objectives that you can work towards. It doesn't matter if it's achievable in the near future (or at all,) just give yourself something to do.

Best I can say right now :)

A caveat that I should have mentioned at the start:

All of us are quoting stuff that works for us, not stuff that will work for Stormbind. Possibly helpful, but that which helps one person may be detrimental for another. Exercise? That may work for Narz, but I discovered exercising gets me depressed.

Explore the world, experience lots of things. Find an antidepressant that way. Although, I REALLY think you should go for South Park and Civ 3..... :)
Hmm, sometimes excersise makes you feel worse temporarily (stirring up toxins for elimination), or it might depress you to excersise around other more fit people (that's how I feel sometimes which is why I excersise from home and compete against myself).

Anyway I agree that finding out what works is a matter of experimentation and completely agree with your 2nd point (explore the world, experience lots of things). Sometimes even walking home down a different street makes me feel better. Variety is the spice of life or course being able to trust in certain consistancies (like South Park) is good too. :)

Don't start drinking.

Something I recently discovered: when I am drunk, I get WORSE rather than better.
Yeah, I found that too, drinking heavily over many years can damage your brain and make it harded to produce pleasure in your brain.

Take up running. A LOT of running. The sense of euphoria experienced by the release of a massive quantity of dopamine cannot be matched.
Yeah, a good runner's high is better than sex (unless you haven't had sex in a LONG time, in which case sex is better.

And what Kan' said, appreciate your friends. You'll miss them when they're gone.

Try eating healthier and sleeping more.

Yeah, sleep is great. I love sleep.

You could try recording your dreams too. Maybe you will find an answer in your dreams. :)

Okay... that's kind of freaky, Heretic_Cata. Who are you?

Thank you

There's a touch of irony in anyone telling me to eat and sleep better, but you could be right. People tend to lose their appetite when feeling down.

Dreams are so cool, Narz. I love how the subconscious can expose the causes of recurring problems or obstacles, but my problems are kind of understood and not avoidable - I just have to plod through the sticky mess and hope it's better on the other side...

I'll turn suicidal if it happens that I must turn around and wade back the way I came :suicide:

I got lucky there--I found out very early on, after heading out to the local pool hall with a friend and drinking two Bacardi Silvers on an empty stomach. Wasn't an excessive amount of alcohol, but it hit good and hard. If you think I get crabby and cynical here in OT, you ain't seen nuthin. For two hours, I was REAL unpleasant to be around.....

Drinking on an empty stomach - very bad. I had a friend that was drinking with me and i told him he shouldn't kuz he didn't eat anything (i did), and he got wasted after 1 beer.

Anyway - dreams are really cool to analize. And it would be really nice if you could write what you dreamt somewhere, early in the morning - because you will quickly forget most of it. Write them down and later -> analize. It may take days/weeks/months until you realize why you dreamt that, but in the end you will realise why;).

(i remember some of my dreams when i was in my biggest depression a few years back ... there were a lot of people and i had ... oops i don't think i am alowed to post this on this forum:D)

P.S. It is strange that i don't see any "What did you dream last night" threads :hmm: I think i am preety good at this subconscience desires stuff, at least with the few ppl that trusted me with their dreams. But this is an online comunity and it is easier to confess here than in reality; it is really strange that no one started a thread like this yet :hmm:...
I could start one, but i didn't dream anything important, worth analizing in the last few days ...

I have posted dreams on this forum before - there is a remarkable sense of being empowered when a dream is understood, and in my case, if a dream is not well interpreted then it will iterate until figured out :p

heh heh, it's been a popular goal thruout the ages to be sure! :D

Since your a religious guy, go read this book. Or any other sef help book that teaches the same things. :)

It teaches you that your thought process can be actively changed by yourself, what you think controls how you feel/act/are. Changing your thought process from negative to positive isn't impossible at all it just needs active intervention from yourself. Thats what the book says, and I believe it. And what I believe in my mind to be true is true in it's consequences so...there you go ;)

OT question : stormbind are you always invisible ?
Why ? :)

You're not allowed to discuss members ;)

No... erm... yes. I never used to be, but I wanted to lurk and thought being invisible might help reduce my avg. daily posts :D
