I was thinking about the awesome race generator that Master of Orion 2 had, and got to thinking about what it would be like to have a similar customization option in Civ4 and what I would do with it.

What distinguishes civs in the game is the traits, the unique unit, the unique building, and the starting techs. Imagine if you had 4 points that you could use on any combination of traits, UUs, or UBs, and you could pick your two starting techs. What would you make?

I think I'd make a civilization that was Aggressive, with Ikhanda, Praetorians, and Oromos, starting with Mining and Wheel.
 
Hmm, or Financial, Spiritual, Industrious, and Expansive. Any techs, with four traits you know it would rock.
 
Hmmm...very interesting idea.

For an all-out warmongering civ, Aggressive + Charismatic + Imperialistic + Praetorians. Or Charismatic + Imperialistic + Ger + War Chariot or Immortal for super-mounted units.

For a peaceful civ, Financial + Organized + Creative + Spiritual or Charismatic. (No UU or UB)
 
I'm told it's pretty easy to add more than one trait or UU to a civilization via modding, I considered making a civ with all the traits once just to see how it would play, but forgot about the idea. I think it would be neat to design a bunch of custom civs this way, try to make them as overpowered as possible, then have them all play against each other in an all-AI game. Kinda like an AI cockfight.

What if, thru a points system you could make custom UU's and UB's for your 'fantasy civ'?

I've always thought being able to create a civ at the beginning of a game would be awesome and would add a whole new level of replayability to the game.
 
My dream civ would be to have Zara from Ethiopia paired with Rome. Which is actually obtainable with unlimited leaders, but that can get chaotic when you can't remember which AI leader is with which Civ.
 
I'm pretty sure I could mod a custom civilization, but what I'd like to see (and it's beyond my skills) is a mod that allows you to choose your traits and custom units/buildings at the game start through a simple menu. I know it would be pretty simple to make it so you can choose your traits, as I've played a mod that has leaders who have traits that change during the game and it allows you to choose your traits in-game. Not so sure about UUs and UBs.
 
IND/PHI with Prats and a UB that gives free specialists. You could have every city in your empire a GP farm.
