Design Thread - For Discussion and Review

I'm assuming Castile. One thing I notice straight away is that the second half of the UA and the UU have the same effects.

EDIT: Sniped, denied the chance to show off my prowess at the medieval Iberian kingdoms guessing game :'(

They have, it's on purpose. So if you defeat a Warrior you'd normally gain 8 Faith with this Civ, but if you defeat him using Peones you get 16 Fatih.

The UA has too many overlaps with the units. If all units gain Faith from kills then the UU would already be getting faith from kills. I think changing the UA's second half to "Buy Great Generals with Faith" would be better and just giving the UU faith from kills would be better. That way the UU is twice as good at generating Great Generals.

Eh, the problem with that coding is that JFD has done roughly the same thing with his Bohemia civ and it's not gone quite so well. May be a possibility. Besides, that would only be an additional to the Hidalgo. I'd probably want something a free Hidalgo after researching Theology.

What do you mean? GGs are purchased with gold in Bohemia, no problem. That's monumenally different, code-wise, from being purchaseable with faith. That said, it's still possible. See Papal States with Disciples.

Didn't a guy have a problem some time ago where he wasn't generating Great Generals from EXP?

I suppose that setting up a fake policy like Honor's finisher would do it...

Nope. Great People faith purchases are absolutely hardcoded that way - you can't change the Great Person, you can't change the era that is unlocked, you can't even change how much it costs, unless using a custom DLL.

What you'd need to do is create your own custom UI, by which the player can purchase the GGs. That's how Disciples work for the Papal States.

That is interesting. CURSE YOU, FIRAXIS!

At least the road's paved before me - and I didn't bring any off-road wheels.

Ok I'm trying to finalize this Welsh design and could use some help:
Wales

Leader: Owain Glyndwr

UA: Eisteddfod: :greatwork: Great Works of Writing generate an additional +1 :c5culture: culture and +1 :tourism: tourism for every era they have existed. Gain a free Great Writer at the beginning of every era after Drama and Poetry has been discovered.

UU: Longbowman: Same as England's except it generates :c5greatperson: Great Writer points in the :c5capital: capital from kills.

UB: Bards Guild: Replaces Writers Guild. Can be built in every city. 2 writer specialist slots and a :greatwork: Great Work of Writing slot. +2 :c5happy: happiness when the slot is filled.

UA is supposed to represent the long and rich history of Welsh literature. Longbows are self explanatory. Bards were very common in medieval Wales which is why it can be built in every city.

I feel like the second half of the UA is too OP. Should I change it to "Free Great Writer at Drama and Poetry"? My other big concern is whether or not the first half of the UA is programmable. Does anyone know if it can be done?

I like this. Except one thing: the Longbowman is the "same as england+ X". Its simply better then it(and I have serious problems when that happens). Lol I'm going to post a Tudor split which is likely to be similar....

Natan. Not all uniques have the same power. Think about them in conjunctiom with the UA and everything. Though it doesn't matter, if it's getting replaced.

Yeah but that unique is simply better...
Also, Tudor split!

Henry VIII*
Spoiler :
UA: Mon Droit
When you convert a city to your religion\ :c5occupied: conquer a city(once per city), all religious buildings in that city are destroyed and you gain :c5culture: culture and :c5gold: gold per each building :c5gold: gold from selling buildings is increased by 5% of its original cost per each social policy you adopt.

UB: Jousting grounds
Replaces Colosseum. Provides only +1 :c5happy: happiness, but costs no maintenance. Additionally, it increases the :c5war: XP and reduces the HP of mounted units trained in this city by 15. Generates +1 :c5culture: culture and :c5happy: happiness after chivalry.

UU: Longbowman
Replaces crossbowman. More suitable for ranged combat(20 :c5rangedstrength:, 12 :c5strength:) and more expansive. Additionally, it also starts with +1 range.

Elizabeth I
Spoiler :
UA: Elizabethan Era
When a :c5greatperson: great person is born, receive :c5goldenage: golden age points equal to the amount of GP points required for his generation, and a WLtKD starts in the city. WLtKDs last +1 turn per each :c5greatperson: great person you produced, and specialists generate no :c5unhappy: unhappiness during them.
UU: Sea Dog
Replaces privateer. Gains :c5gold: gold equal to 20% of the damage it deals in attacks per each level it has(up to 100%). enemies adjacent to it receive a 10% combat penalty(doubled after reaching level 5). Upon reaching level 5, gains the abilities of a great admiral.

UB: Playhouse
Replaces the zoo. Only generates 1 :c5happy: happiness. However, contains a :greatwork: great work of writing and a :c5culture: writer specialist slot, each providing 1 :c5happy: happiness when filled. Generates :c5culture: culture equal to the amount of :c5happy: happiness it produces.

*not entirely based on historical events.

I like the Henry VIII one. I would change the UA name to Dissolution of the Monasteries though because that's what it appears to be representing and I believe JFD's Henry already has a UA with that name. Also, what does "more expansive" mean in the Longbowman description?

more expansive to produce. higher production cost.
the UA... mon droit is the best name for that UA. considering what henry did.
(BTW, it would be nice of JFD to redo Elizabeth... instead of replacing one inacuurate UU with another...)

I believe the correct term is "expensive", which means costly.

curse you, autospelling!

I've been scribbling about with my Lua skills, so here goes one that I won't be naming anything and it is up to you guys to figure out. The only hint is that it is an alternative leader for a very vanilla Civ.

UA - A Golden Age begins whenever you capture an enemy capital. During Golden Ages, cities produce +10% Food and +1 Production from every 2 Citiziens.

UU - Great General replacement. May be expended for Golden Ages. If garrisoned on a city, +35% of the food is kept after a citizien is born.

UU - one of the main Civ's UUs, just with Indirect Fire added.

Due to that, the original Civ is getting an UB to replace the lost UU, and an addition to the UA.

UA addition - +2 Production and +1 Gold from Plantations.

UB - Market replacement. +2 Gold in the Capital for each [CENSORED] in the empire. Negates Occupied Unhappiness.

Review, please, and take your guess!
