They look like Golden Delicious Apples. The rest is the lighting.

That's some very strong firelight then. As an artist I'd have to say the apples turning that particular shade of orange seems unrealistic.

And it's neat to see Gustav having his own portrait on the wall!

Perhaps it's one of the other Swedish kings that Gustav supposedly looks like?
