[Development Thread]WW1 Mod: Blood and Iron

I did the aircraft because I felt I could release the mod with a couple of ship classes representing all of the rest, wereas with aircraft it would be better if 90% (if not all) of the aircraft were done.

It takes me about 2-4 hrs to finish an aircraft, depending on its completixty. It takes about 6-8 hrs to finish a warship. I'm looking forward to getting some of the ships done, that's probably where I'll focus next (except for the artillery units, land units are well in hand already). The French Cruiser Gloire is about 80% modeled already. Maybe I'll finish her this weekend.

Any chance of that Tegetthoff class battleship? Pretty please? :please:

Given that these were the only austro-hungarian dreadnoughts, I would expect them to be in ;)

Any chance for a 3rd ww1 aircraft pack ? :D

Given the fact that he promised to post it once it's done, I don't know.

The 3rd aircraft pack should be available within a week or so. As for the Tegetthoff class, I will post it when it's done, I just haven't started work on it yet. It's not a very high priority (it's moved down on my list) because there are other more important ships that I need to make first.

In order to publish the mod I need at least one example of every ship - right now we're still missing a minesweeper/layer, torpedo boat, seaplane tender, cruiser, and naval mines. There are more ship classes that are needed, but those are the basics along with the already made submarine, destroyer, transport, pre-dreadnought and dreadnought.

I'm probably going to switch gears this weekend and focus on ships for a while - looking at the overall unit requirements ships are definitely lacking. After that I'll work on some artillery pieces. Aircraft, tanks, armored cars, and figure units are pretty well covered at this point.

Found a great site (most likely known by others) that has over 3700 incredible photos from WW1. Lots of other great info too, but I'm interested in the pics.

Thanks for the reminder woodelf. This is the same site I posted twice in this thread. Here's the first time:
Plus, here's an AWESOME World War I site that I found, that has many primary documents, memoirs, and diaries relating to the Great War.

This particular link will lead you to the "Weapons of War" section. It splits them up into Bayonets, Flamethrowers, Grenades, Machine Guns, Pistols, Poison Gas, Rifles, Tanks, and Trench Mortars:

It has a timeline and loads more information on the First World War. Enjoy!

Smitty, try these links/pics for the Gloire cruiser:

Thanks for the pictures Wolfshanze, they helped some - I knew there was something funny about the colors just from looking at the black and whites. It's nice to know I wasn't going crazy thinking the hull was black and the superstructure white. Now I know!

No problem.

Quick work-in-progress shots of some new ships:

SMS Elster (Austrian-Hungarian Torpedo Boat):

French Gloire Class Cruiser:

In case you can't tell from the shots, modeling is underway for both, and I've started to skin the Gloire.

They look good.
Do you plan on custom animations on those two ships? Especially the Torpedo Boat would be a challenge.

Yeah, all of my ships are fully animated. I made a template in 3ds Max a while back, all I have to do is put in the model. It's pretty easy really.
I need to get General Matt to talk with you... he needs to learn how to animate his own stuff so he can get all those little turrets and stuff working!

winddelay finally had the time to finish up my shadows on the WW1 Russian set and here it is.

It's supposed to have more concrete and brick than the English set, but who knows.

Looks like you're recycling some of your older work. ;)
Looks nice. When enough sets are done, would you allow inclusion in the Ethnic Artstyles mod?

Actually only one is recycled and it has a new skin. How many ways can you make a warehouse or factory? :p

Take em. :)

Italy is mostly modeled, but I need a break from doing GIMP work. The bombed out city set is conceptualized, but not modeled yet.

About bombed cities...are we looking at total bombing or leaving some buildings? And if some buildings, are generic warehouses/apts good so only one set is needed?

The 3rd aircraft pack should be available within a week or so.
Cool beans... we're now entering the "or so" portion of this statement! :groucho:

Eagerly awaiting more fine skunkworks biplanes! :D
