[Development Thread]WW1 Mod: Blood and Iron

It's very simple to use a different effect. It's just an xml setting. :)

In the battle effects thread you'll even notice I did a test of this using the nuke 'shroom.

For gas attacks, I think the best affect would be to use the city pollution haze.

Yes, but can the color be changed?

Why can't it? It's probably as simple as editing a .dds file.

A list of events I've compiled so far with possible results. :)

-We could make it so that your civ, and all civs currently at war with your civ, get their units healed. You could add your allies if you want, but if you had allies that weren't at war they'd get healed too. (Then again, why would their units be damaged if they weren't at war?)

I was asking if I could sign up, but yes. :p
I've made Lenin, Kaiser Wilhelm, and Tsar Nicholas. You can find them all in downloads.

You're definitely welcome Dutchking! Unfortunately, all of the leaderheads are already done! (well, nearly). Instead of going with pictures or animations of animated people, I'm keeping it simple: The countries flag with the leaders crest.

Great job on the events, they sound cool... now, put them in XML please! :D

I'll be along later, or maybe tomorrow morning with some more information. I think it's finally time I go over the units, just so everyone is on the same page.

Yeah, I'm psyched to play it too. Here's the newest WIP shot of the SMS Helgoland:

Still have to finish the portals on the side of the hulls, the railings, and add the life-boats. Add in some little coloring tweeks (a lighter grey for one things) and some animations, and it'll be done.

Looks great Snafu... can't wait to see it in-game!

Snafu:

You going to be modelling rail-guns? These would be cool with my ranged bombardment of 2 tiles, but can only move on plots with railways. Be easy to do. :)

Please keep in mind that the goal of the mod is not to have every type of unit ever made in the mod - but to have just enough to do a good job of representing the different technologies that emerged over the course of the war. Units included are also there because they add something substantial to the gameplay.

Also, units like the 'Storm Trooper' aren't just an infantry model, but a composite of several different units in a formation - in this case, storm stroopers include light (portable) machinegunners, flamethrowers, grenadiers, standard infantrymen, etc.

The difference between pre-war units, and mid-later units will not be done through new classes (except where appropriate). In the case of infantry, by changing the era limits, infantrymen change uniforms depending on how far advanced you are. If you haven't researched Trench Warfare, you're men won't wear helmets. To make up for the improvement in safety, a promotion is given to them. In general, I think this keeps things a little cleaner.

Technically, I think the generally-accepted word you're looking for here would be "Super Dreadnought" in the evolution of naval warfare... terms were used chronologically in order as: Pre-Dreadnought, Dreadnought and Super-Dreadnought (2nd-generation Dreadnoughts).

The arrival of Super-Dreadnoughts is not as clearly identified with a single ship in the same way as the dreadnought era. However, it is commonly held to start with the British Orion-class, and for the German navy with Königs. What made them "super" was the unprecedented jump in displacement (2,000–tons) compared to the previous class, the introduction of the heavier 13.5-inch (343 mm) gun, and the distribution of all the main armament on the centreline instead of using wing-turrets.

The Queen Elizabeth, Nevada & Pennsylvannia classes for example are generally refered to as "Super-Dreadnoughts". The Super-Dreadnoughts generally began appearing on the scene roughly 10 years after the launch of the HMS Dreadnought.

The term "Dreadnought" gradually dropped from use after World War I, as the pre-dreadnoughts and the first generations of dreadnoughts were scrapped, "Battleship" came back into favor by the time of the Washington Treaty and WWII.

@Snanfusmith

Just wondering if you ever got around to looking at the redone tech tree I posted in thread # 57?

Also will the German Stormtrooper unit be featuring the M18 submachine gun?

Since looking at weeks, are you going to look at seasons like how winter spreads across Europe in Road to War?

I really think this could add a whole dimension to the trench warfare.

Pardon my asking, but how exactly does the winter effect work in Road to War? (coding-wise)
