[Development Thread]WW1 Mod: Blood and Iron

I think it will be a little sooner than 2099, hopefully! I've been really busy in the real world lately, and been focusing mostly on artwork rather than XML. I know that I said B&I would be out by now, and I'm sorry for not releasing it yet. It will be finished eventually, I just can't give you guys a good idea of when. In the meantime, I'm going to look into getting some more of the artwork for B&I released.

Yay! Snafu lives! Welcome back!

Thanks alot Smitty, can't wait to try them out. I am guessing there will be a few artillery packs. I cannot wait for Blood and Iron, whats it been a year or so in development. I wanted to ask one small question, did you get the trenches to work? Can you link them together like roads? Thanks again, man I have been waiting forever for this.

I am sorry if anyone has already asked this but you have said something about sea mines being used. Will both offensive and defensive landmines be used?
Defensive mines during that time were shells they placed in the ground pointed upwards to disable tanks while offensive mines were laid by means of tunnels under no man's land and often weighed 100s of tons, all of which was explosive to destroy the enemy trench. A famous example of the use of mines (which was common) was the battle of messines.
If the offensive mines are used maybe you could have workers use them (similar in manner to the cannons and bombardment).

No news yet ?

I hoped for a beta version by now :D

Did the 3.19 patch ruin your schedule ?

Hi,

I hope this will be realesed soon - i loved teh previos mod for ww1 ( for warlords) and was sad i didnt had an alternative for BTS I hope the new mod will stay close to the historical record ( the ottoman empire was not a minor civ as i saw some ppl stating here :P) rather it was one of the 3 superpowers of the Axis, though weaker then its two partners. Anyways I'm excited about this realease as I loved the previous version and im sure this would be just as good. Again.....when are you planning to realse it???? April was so long ago hehe :P

Hey guys - some news, both good and bad. First the bad: I'm getting ready to go overseas again, so that's why you haven't seen me around lately. I'm going to a completely different part of the world, with all the amenities of home, but it's still takes a lot to move to a different country. In getting ready to go, Blood and Iron has fallen by the weigh side.

Now the good: I do plan on finishing this mod. I've come to far to let it sit, so as soon as I get myself set up overseas I plan to start back up and get this thing finished. I know I said it would be out by now, and that it sucks that it's not done yet, so I'm sorry. RL just gets busy sometimes that's all.

First of all I would like to wish you luck Snafu.

I personally agree with this to some extent. However you have to remember that the Central Powers only included four nations. The last one, which was Bulgaria, is known to have mobilized 1/4 of it's male population and suffered heavy losses during the war (of course so did most of the nations that fought, Austria-Hungary suffered 90% casualties of it's entire army for example). Also the Ottoman Empire had quite a few things that were made by the Germans (a major player just like the US was for the Allies, but at the same time had to use alot stuff from other nations).

Bonjour Snafu!

Can I make a polite request to see a copy of the mod? I'm working on small modmods for another mod (Rise of Mankind) and I'd like to see how you implemented mines (amongst other things).

If you could point me to a download, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance.

Ok guys, good news!

I've finally got my life settled to the point where I can now start up work on Blood and Iron and finally get it out to all of you fine people for some play testing. The first order of business is to get the game switched over to 3.19, which Ninja2 has offered to help with. Other than that, it's the same old amount of XML and scenario creating. You can expect to see some screenshots of some new artwork/in-game scenes on a weekly basis soon as we start to get close. Look for a testable/playable version in a couple months, if not sooner!

Update: Tanks are nearly Done!

Ok, so I probably should have spent my time working on some XML, but I got distracted and finished up a tank instead. Previewed below is the Austrian-Hungarian experimental 'Burstyn tank.' Never produced, it was the closest thing to a tank I could find to represent the 'what-if' side of the house for that nation. Enjoy!

Great news Smithy!!
can´t wait to play the mod :)

Nice tank what size is that main gun? Looks imposing!

Hi Snafusmith!

While looking up the 'Burstyn tank' to satisfy my curiousity, I came across an excellent site for World War I tank enthusiasts: http://www.landships.freeservers.com/, and its forum: http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=63528&p=1.

It has lots of photos/drawings and history of WWI tanks along with other equipment and camouflage. This is by far the best source I've seen on the web about the subject. I thought it would be nice to pass along to others who may find it interesting or useful.

Thanks for the tip Acronym2 - I've kept and eye on Landships for a while now, but never saw the forums - WOW! There's a lot of good information there.

On a progress note, the XML is coming along nicely. Finished up the major changes to the civics and am now working on the buildings/cities. There's a lot to do, but the game is now getting more and more playable. Soon, I'll start showing you guys in-game screenshots!

When I first saw this a few months ago I noticed two things. One, your expected release date, and two, the date of your last post. I was disappointed as I would've loved a First World war mod. But now, having seen your recent updates, I'm filled with joy. Can't wait for a release (even if it's a buggy beta test). Good luck with all your work.
