Development Thread

Yes, I'm going to recompile the help file. There are 2 files that need to be written still. One is the MA which either Ruff or EF need to write up, but that's going to be tricky since it's not completed yet. The other is PLE which I'm working on converting to HTML.

good :goodjob:

Other things to add are the GGBar.html file (for Great General Bar) and the update of Sevopedia.html to include also the Shortcuts and the Strategic Guides sections (you may also remove the version history from that file, as you have done from all the other ones (I already did in the Italian version)).

"I Love Asphalt" should not be included in BAT instead of BUG?

I discussed that with Alerum, Ruff and NikNaks so far, and all agreed that it was small enough of a change that improves the interface greatly to warrant inclusion in BUG. Do you strongly disagree?

The downside is that we cannot make it optional via the BUG Options screen since it's graphical. However, you can remove it by simply deleting two files, and we can include instructions for that in the readme.

Yes, the reasons because I disagree (not strongly, though) are the ones you mentioned, that it's graphic (and so it's natural place is BAT) and that it can't be removed through the BugOS (and the included mods doing so are increasing: initially only the Wide City Bars, than the Hints & Tips on Loading, now this...).
Anyway, if you all agree that the benefit is greater than these downsides, it's ok for me, and we can provide uninstall instruction in the help file as we do for Wide City Bars.

Yes, I see it exactly along the lines of Wide City Bar. And I'd be happy to chat you up late at night (day for you) with random stuff like this. :) PM me your IM. Mine should be easy for a smart guy like you to guess. ;)

So, MapScripts do not alter gameplay, just the way maps are configured at the start. Also, they are just python files. What about their inclusion?

No need of PM, I'm 'Cammagno' everywhere on the net, so it's 'Cammagno' on GoogleTalk and 'Cammagno' on Skype :)

Ahh the joys of having an original name. I still remember when I tried to sign up for my third BBS only to find that "Space Ace" wasn't as original as I had hoped.

Sure, why not. You are not forced to use 'em and they are a nice addition if you are bored of the included ones. :D

Which ones do you want to include? Some of the new ones were included in the 3.17 patch. Feel free to include my 'ring world' one if you want to.

Was going to preorder your wives book Ruff, but it's only in Kindle format... going to have to wait for the hardback it seems.;) Congrulations!:)

As for the MapScripts I was going to include, they are yours, PerfectWorld, Planet Generator, Random Map Script v5, and Tectonics. Is there any you can think to include?

We are currently getting some artwork done - expect a paperback version from lulu (or amazon - not sure) within a month or 2. And thanks for the vote of confidence - will pass it on.

Check the maps in the 3.17 patch ... wait, I can do that. Ok, the ones you mentioned arn't there. I thought some of them were. Ok but me to include any /all of them.

I thought Tectonics was in 3.17 but perhaps not. I would recommend SmartMap because it is highly configurable.

Tectonics and Smartmap are in 3.17

Could you take a look at the solution for the uncentered Relations screen?

Does anyone know if the maps from 3.17 are the same as the ones on the forum?

According to the changelog, they probably are:

Added tectonics map script (thanks LDiCesare)
Added Earth2 map script (thanks GRM7584)
Added RandomScriptMap map script (thanks Refar)
Added three new options to Team Battleground map script (thanks ruff_hi)

Unless one of those scripts has been updated between now and their time of inclusion in the patch, they should be the same. Okay, I could check the respective threads as well ...

... done.

Tectonics is at v3.15 in the patch as well as in its release thread.

RandomScriptMap states in its release thread that the latest version is included in the patch.

Earth2 had its latest release in 2006 according to the release thread, so the version in the patch should be up to date.

PREfect! I'll go ahead and add them. Since you won't even notice during game play, and you don't need to choose that map, it being optional or not isn't important.
