DG01 - Snake eye

I edited it, actually I uploaded the right save, but due to the fact that there are 2 saves with the year 2000, the link seems to point to the old save.

sorry, now it should work

Turn 0 – 2000 AD:
If we want to go to war with Cyrus I think we should really upgrade our defenses on our home Continent…we still have ancient units there. I turn down science to 0% as we don’t really need the future techs anymore and start upgrading, we have nearly 5000 Gold currently on the bank. I start by upgrading all of our Longbowmen to Mech Inf’s for 1425 Gold, then all our Jaguars to Mech Inf’s for 1560 Gold, our Knights to Gunships for 1410 Gold and that’s it for now… only 273 Gold left. Will do the next round of upgrades in a few turns.

Turn 1 – 2001 AD:
We have a lot of units… starting to move around and prepare for the upcoming war. We’ll have two fronts when we attack Cyrus, one in the north (former Mongol Land) and one the southwest (former Incan Land), in the following turns I will rebase our bombers (and build more!) to Tzintzuntzen at the northern front, I’ll keep a few bombers in the Southwest though for defensive reasons… and hope to move a few Gunships down there as well. With the new patch Gunships are stronger and have more effect in retaliating against Modern Armors.
I bomb the last remaining Incan City of Vitcos and attack, we capture the city and the Incans are no more.
I do some trading this turn as well, Wine to Caesar for 4 Gold/turn.

Turn 2 – 2002 AD:
Moving units around and rebasing our bombers. I’m planning to start the war in 2005 AD. Upgrading our Frigate’s to Destroyers for 710 Gold.

IBT:
Frederick wants a defensive pact, I agree.

Turn 3 – 2003 AD:
Logistics…

Turn 4 – 2004 AD:
Upgrade Archers to Mech Inf for 2200 Gold and more Logistics.

Turn 5 – 2005 AD:
I think we’re ready… we’re still a bit low on number of Bombers, but I’m building more of them. We currently have 16 Gunships, 15 Stealth Bombers, 8 Jet Fighters, 44 Modern Armors and 30 Mech Infs. Our navy has 13 Battleships and 8 Destroyers. We still have a few obsolete units around (2 Cavalry, 1 Warrior and 2 Maceman), but those will be upgraded soon.
I trade Marble and Stone to Caesar for Silks, if we have enough Gold he will probably join the war against Cyrus, but for now he doesn’t want this. Frederick won’t join for sure, he’s good buddies with Cyrus. We should watch out for Caesar though…maybe Cyrus offers him enough Gold to join against us.
I start bombing Beshbalik with our Stealths, three Bombers are shot down by Jet Fighters (bad luck there…they were at full health!), but the rest are doing fine… City defenses are down to 0% and I also do some damage on a nearby Battleship. I start the land attack, MA kills Mech Inf, MA kill Mech Inf, MA kills SAM, MA kills SAM, MA kills Artillery and we capture the city of Beshbalik. I lost a MA and Gunship in the South western front trying to kill a Mech Inf on an Uranium Mine. The Mech Inf is killed in the end though.

IBT:
We lose a destroyer and two Battleships! Damned Caesar declared on us!
Turn 6 2006 AD:
We’re getting bombed everywhere by Roman and Persian Bombers/Fighters… hard to keep track of all the messages. I bomb a Roman Battleship and sink it with one of our own. I also sink a Persian Destroyer and Pillage Clams fishing boats.
We lose another two Stealth Bombers…shot down by SAMs when we bomb Parsargadae! What are the odds to that?! Something changed there with the new patch as well? I never lost so many Stealth Bombers that were at full health… I burn the Roman city of Velitrae just north of Tiwanaku. Frederick is useless to us he doesn’t want to declare on anyone.

IBT:
It’s looking bad in Southwest… we lose many units and Cyrus captures the city of Ollantaytambo! He’s using bombers and suicide Artillery to weaken our defenses then sends in MA’s and Gunships to kill us of. Caesar has a huge navy… we see many of his naval units enter our waters and there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s bad enough that we have to fight Cyrus, but I wasn’t expecting Caesar to join Cyrus…this is not helping us. The former Incan land will soon be lost I’m afraid… it’s right in the middle of Persia and Rome. I suggest we advance from the north.

Turn 7 2007 AD:
I bomb Parsargadae and start moving MA’s in the direction of the city. We lose one bomber and another gets wounded… We’re losing many bombers… I think we should make peace as soon as the AI wants to talk to us and rebuild our army, especially our Air Force. We only have 10 Stealth Bombers left!

IBT:
This is really frustrating…seeing the Roman navy sinking our ships and destroying fishing boats…but we’re overpowered there…

Turn 8 2008 AD:
I burn the Persian City of Dariush that was on the former French Continent. We definitely need more troops there as well. As I didn’t take in account that Caesar would declare on us, I think we declared war too early… it’s gonna be a rough ride, I hope either Caesar or Cyrus wants to talk with us soon.

IBT:
Our stack outside outside Pasargadae is under heavy fire! We kill many Persian Mech Infs, but our units are heavily wounded now and probably not capable to capture Pasargadae the next turn as I had planned.

Turn 9 2009 AD: I need to withdraw our stack from Parsargadae…they’re just getting killed out there if I keep them where they are.

IBT:
We’re getting bombed about everywhere again….this is really hurting us.

Turn 10 2010 AD:
A new stack of 5 MA’s and 3 gunships is moving towards Parsargadae, hopefully we’ll have better luck this time. I’m upgrading the Warrior, Macemen and Infantries to Mech Infs. Now all our units are Modern. We lost a lot of Stealth Bombers, we really need more of those, I ordered up a few and I suggest to keep building them. We still have the edge over the AI, but they’re hurting us by bombarding our resources. I think we should still be able to defend the former Incan lands even though it’s trapped in between Rome and Persia. The Romans don’t advance on us there, and the Persians have shifted their attacks to the north where they attacked our stack and suffered heavy losses. Well..there is a Roman stack moving towards Vilcabamba though, but I think we should be able to kill them before they can attack the city. I suggest using air support in the area to weaken the stack before charging. Both Cyrus and Caesar still refuse to talk.

Hello mates, i survived christmas and new years eve. ;)
I will slot in after Rat, if that is alright with you.
It looks like we are in for a bumpy ride on these last few yards.

Till, why don't you take it first, I have just played before Dimy, so please go ahead. I take it after you

Inherited Turn:
A lot of cities are starving. The Emperor has certain views on what to do with that "spare" population...
He is very unhappy about the current civics situation. How would he like to sacrifce some slaves to Huitzilopochtli!
azhui2zv.jpg

But alas, we can't affort to leave Emancipation for Slavery. The Happiness penalty from not having Emancipation would cripple us.
We can't try to sacrifice gold either, since we need the War Weariness reduction of Police State.
What to do with our money? The pyramid waits and the god is hungry...

*enter*

(1) 2011 AD:
Our navy loses a destroyer after sinking a battleship. The list of destroyed tile improvements goes on and on. A full-strenght stealth bomber gets shot down by an persian fighter. A vein on the Emperor's brow begins to swell. As his shrink keeps telling him he has to vent his anger, he orders Navajo to be stormed. If he could have it his way, he'd burn the city down and put the population to the sword. Alas, there is the domination goal to keep in mind.
navajo6kf.jpg

We keep the city. Who do you have to fear, when you have friends like good ol' Fred around?
fred7ah.jpg

(2) 2012 AD:
Cyrus attacks our SOD but fails to kill anything. Loses some mech inf defenders while trying.
What's this?! Fallout?!
fallout4vg.jpg

A nuclear meltdown. And here i am, thinking Caesar went trigger happy on the red button...
We lose another bomber while attacking a Roman SOD just outside Cuzco's borders. &$&%§$/!
What the..? We lose 3 battleships attacking two Roman ones. The first two had about even odds, but the last one was something like 40-10 in our favour!

(3) 2013 AD:
Our fleet takes revenge and sinks the offending Roman vessels. Only 1 of 6 bombers manages to complete his mission. The others get intercepted. This has got to be a joke. Something is very wrong with artillery in Civ 4.

(4) 2014 AD:
We get attacked in Cuzco and Beshalbik. The defenders hold out. Any plans of marching towards Pasargarde have a big hole through them now, though.

(5) 2015 AD:
Caesar's SOD near Cuzco is almost gone now.

(6) 2016 AD
We move towards Pasargarde again. It's a war of attrition, but so far we are doing far better than Cyrus. Caesar keeps reinforcements comming towards Cuzco.
setia1ly.jpg

We occupy the city. Any tile towards domination helps.

(7) 2017 AD:
We lose Machu Picchu.
We win Machu Picchu.
pasargarde3cp.jpg

Our units are seriously battered down, but we lost only two gunships. The counter attack will be murder, though. Cyrus is ready to pay for peace. He offers 2XXX gold, but i decide to hold off for now.

(8) 2018 AD:
There was no counter attack. Looks like Cyrus is running out of steam.
Reshuffle units. I have no idea what our worker are doing. Did somebody put them on automatic?

(9) 2019 AD:
Arbela falls to our onslaught! (No casulties)
arbela2lp.jpg

Caesar lands a small SOD in former France! I scrape our defenders together and send them home.
But we are very streched thin with our units now.

(10) 2020 AD:
Reshuffling and reinforcing. Our cities are in horrible shape, all the bombardment really hurts. We might want to consider the production of new workers. I didn't do it, as i needed all the units i could get for the two front war.
But Persia just lost two core cities to us, i don't think they'll be much of a problem anymore.

---------->The Save<----------

Edit: We could get peace with Cyrus, but i adivse against it. Our captured cities might flip back and he's not much of a threat anyway. Caesar din't feel like talking on turn 9. If i had to play on, i'd finish Cyrus off on the main continent and them make peace with him and concentrate on Caesar. That would give us a maximum on land for a mininum of reshuffling units.

Oh I put the workers on automatic during my last turn... I couldn't be bothered more by MM'ing them...the war took all my attention, and any improvement build would probably get bombed the next turn again anyway.
Good set of turns! I figured Cyrus was going to run out of steam, at the end of my turnset he lost many units trying to counter-attack us and he has nowhere near the production capacity as we have.

save before IT victory

Pre-Turn
let the rollercoaster ride begin
we are on 56% land already, not that much left
up culture to 50%, we don't need the money, but border expansions we don't mind
I think we need a stronger navy to get rid of all those overseas bombers

1. 2021AD
take out one of those bloddy battleships from Cyrus near our capital, more will follow my friend
set up attack on Persepolis. bomb defenses down to 16%
system crashes
I hate it in civ4 how modern warfare is extremely messy, it is awful to do things there really

IT ouch, Persians land quite a few units on our mainland near the capital

2. 2022AD
I think we have no choice but to make peace with Persia for the time being and handle Rome
but first we take Ollaytatambo back
also want to take out Persepolis before peace
relentlessly bomb it, destroy massive units, but some still there, now we can't stop here, somehow must defend the own continent
and take them out next turn

decide to make peace with Rome and he give us all his 1600gold to boot. now we can concentrate on the right target

reinforce the area around our capital, lose 2 tanks but wound the intruders properly

IT we defeat 4 units and lose none near our capital, while our land is being ripped apart by their units

3. 2023AD
bomb Persepolis again and destroy 10 units inside, taking along 5 transports and 5 destroyers + 3 fighter jets
sweet revenge

the cloak of blue is lifting and we can gain massive land here
our land is happy again and health is not an issue at the moment

4. 2024AD
advance to Susa, take out a destroyer next to Golden Iron and near China, now their carriers are exposed to our units
lose a destroyer depsite overwhelming odds against carrier that was also hurt, funny

IT our archer defeats the axe

5. 2025AD
defeat a carrier with a figther on it
lose another battleship against a heavily wounded destroyer, this really freaks me out, odds like 40:5
take out Susa losing 1 tank but defeating 5 units

march on to Tarsus

IT of course there is no need to mention that the AI can easily defeat our battleships, fortified and at full health

6. 2026AD
finally defeat that carrier at Golden Iron
3 units are no match to our battlehardned unit and Tarsus falls, the last Persian city on that continent
However, I want more, I want them gone

7. 2027AD
land 4 units in Ergili, and get bombers there to support
send some transports on the way to take that southern Island
take out a stray destroyer, our northern sea is now pretty safe

IT Persia is surely gassed as there are no more counterattacks

8. 2028AD
we have 2 more border expansions and are already at 59.8% but a German revolt is taking place in Chengdu
bomb and take out Ergidli in the south

9. 2029AD
we get some more border expansions and are at 61%, only 1 to go
land 4 units next to Gordium but it looks heavily defended, heavier than I expected

IT then I get this message

anyway :goodjob: to a hard fought victory. I have to say that modern warfare seems to have more choices with navy and bombers but the screen is simply so damn messy with all the clutter. getting bombed is a pain as you have a tough time to figure what went on

Wow good job everybody! :) This was found and i am looking forward to the next installment. I like the pace of modern warfare.

I like the pace of modern warfare.
I like it too, but I do not like the graphical implementation of it. it's sometimes very hard to spot units.
You wonder were you get bombed. It's especially tough in a SG. On my first inherited turn I always have a hard time figuring out what is actually going on. On the other hand, I like the bomber capabilities to act like modern artillery.

I wish you would get a window at the beginning of every turn that gives you information along the lines
"Wineries destroyed: 3 Wineries left: 1".
You would have to manually close the window. I also wish the enemiesy would
move their units a tad bit slower. I hate it when i get invaded without noticing it. There really ought to be a big warning flash once enemy soldiers land on your toil!
