DG02 - A Fascist Variant Game

ok, I played 21 turns and I think stayed within the spirit.

save

Pre-Turn
settler pair is already on the way to hok up copper, that's good, will play 21 turns to even out things
whip the rax to stay on target

1. 1250BC

2. 1225AD
2nd settler reaches destination, copper and ivory will be in the 2nd ring

3. 1200BC
found Athens, income drops to -2gpt

4.1175BC
another archer is done, still #12

5. 1150BC
one more archer, still #12, a barb archer threatens Athens

6. 1125BD
barb archer loses
get open borders with Khan so we can still move and explore in the southwest

7. 1100BC
after the next archer go for a settler that can claim some nice land in the east
we are still last in military ranking anyway

8. 1075BC
Gandhi converts to Judaism

9. 1050BC
we are last for everything but funny GNP we are #1

10. 1025BC
IW is in, next writing for libraries and culture
iron is south of our capital but outside the borders

11. 1000BC
Oracle has been finished somewhere

12. 980BC
horses are now connected and we can build chariots

13. 960BC
surprisingly our military ranking has gone up to #10

14. 940BC
nothing exciting

15. 920BC
workers are now near Athens to assist library with chops once we get writing

16. 900BC
start to chop

17. 880BC
writing is in, maths next for catspults in the future, we get a 3rd settler and can now go back to chariots

18. 860BC
1st chop done, 2 more for the library

19. 840BC
get open borders with Hatty so we can travel along her roads
start to chop again, found Thermopylae

20. 820BC
Victoria wanted OB already which I agreed, now she wants to exchange some luxes, fine with me for the time being
Sparta grwos to pop6 and churns out a chariot and goes for another worker

21. 800BC
worker will be done in 4, speed up library with chops so we can claim copper. I feel then it is time to build up more military and start a war
maths is due in 15 turns at 90%

we do have currently 6 military units and after library and worker should go for more military

I think I would have done with the previous one actually - Thermopylae is ALREADY unhealthy with that jungle and half its resources can't be used without Calendar, plus we'd like to get started on culture near the iron sooner rather than later since the english are about. I'd build where that roman archer is in the shot above, I think.

I find myself in total agreement with Rat on what to do next:
- Rush the libary to get copper
- Prepare for war
Thermoplyae is on a nice spot, but until Calendar comes around our workers should concentrate on Athens and Sparta.
As for the Iron city...it's already been founded! The name is Heliopolis.:mischief:
Kidding aside, i would love to have an ancient war with Egypt, preferably with our UU before it gets obsolete.
This migh be daydreaming of course, depending on our production capacities.

Ok updated rules:

- We can make 3 settlers and thus build 4 cities, the rest of our empire will have to be build by conquest

- From 1 AD onwards: have 4 times as many military units as we have cities, if not at least one of our cities must be dedicated to building more units until we do.

- in addition to the new military rule... to avoid exploits, we are not allowed to build or capture a new city unless we have the required number of military units (razing cities, of course, is ok).

War with Hatty could be fun - it's in the Fascist warmongering expansionist nature, and our UU will knock seven shades out of her chariots.

- Civics: We must adopt Police State, Nationhood, Slavery (allowed to upgrade to Emancipation when unhappiness about not having Emancipation hurt to much), State Property and Free Religion as soon as these come around.

- War and conquest is what we stand for. We might make a friend though and lock ourselves in a permanent alliance with one other Civ.

- The use of whipping is encouraged, especially in conquered cities.

- We’re not allowed to adopt a State Religion, nor spread a religion. But we are allowed to find a new religion if we happen to be the first to discover a tech that gives a religion.

I'm having problems applying the patch, probably because I use a miniimage instead of the real DVD. I'll just drop out and let temmage get my spot, don't know when and if I'll get the energy to find a solution.

Did anyone PM him about it? He might not be checking the thread as much as the rest of us.

Good luck with fixing your problem. Have you considered asking your parents to mail you the original disc? ;)

Slight problem - just noticed the save's not here :)

sorry my bad habit, I always post the save at the beginning of the post, it's actually there

Oh, so it is - missed that, sorry. I'll be at work all day today, so if temmage wants to slot into the roster ahead me where Gufnork was before that's fine - I'll post a got it if I get back here before he does :)

Pre-Turn: I spent about ten minutes just looking through everything and familiarizing myself with this game. Thermopylae will go nowhere unless we can clear those jungles. I would like to get a settler on to the iron but it seems the English will beat us to it.

My goal for this turnset is to clear out the jungles near Thermopylae and turn into a commerce producing city. If our cities are not making positive returns, we’re going to be swamped with military unit costs and subsequently fall behind in the tech game.

Turn 1: I accept Cyprus’s Open Borders offer. I explore with the Archer and Chariot.

Turn 2: I move one worker to begin another chop near Athens. I move the second worker to the Corn near Thermopylae.

Turn 3: Worker begins chop.

Turn 4: Sparta finishes a worker. I begin another. Judaism spreads to Athens but I refrain from adopting it right now. More exploration. The nearest Egyptian city is Memphis with three population. Note her city’s proximity to bronze.

Turn 5: Hatty asks to break trade with the Mongols. I hesitate a bit but decide that, for now, it would be best to keep her on our friendly side. The operative phrase here is “for now.” ;)

One worker starts a jungle chop. I realize that we don’t Agriculture so I move him to a jungle.

Turn 6: Worker begins jungle chop. Chariot finds Hatty’s capital city. It is heavily defended.

02moreegyptians9yo.jpg

Turn 7: I accept Gandhi’s Open Borders offer. Athen finishes library and I resume work on the barracks. Athen’s culturally surrounded by the Indians to the northwest, Hatty to the southwest, and the English to the southeast. We’re going to need some more culture-producing buildings in this city soon.

Turn 8: Athens finishes the barracks. I have a worker start building a mine near Athens to give the city some production. At the current rate, Athens will the granary I have it build next in 44 turns.

Turn 9: Sparta finishes the worker. I have it begin on libraries to boost our sciences. I move the workers south with the intension of forest chopping for the library.

Turn 10: Worker begins chop.
====
Athens is surrounded by culture from all sides. This could seriously cripple its ability to grow.

Therm has a lot of potential. Because of its proxmity to happiness/commerce resources and its access to the grassland under the jungle, the city can become a science powerhouse. I opt that we develop this city as soon as we can before we begin any wars.

What are our long term military goals? Who's first on our war list in other words? :)
