With the first DGIT game completed, I'm proud to report that we were successful in our conquest. Rome laid waste to all other civilizations and is free to prosper.

Now comes the time to discuss DGIT # 2

1)We need more players. We started out with 5 and it actually looked like we were down to two members when I disappeared for a couple of weeks. Anyway, we now stand at three members: myself, Smellincoffee, and SolarKnight. I would like to bolster our members in total to seven. That way if we lose a couple of people, we will still have enough to make the game interesting.

2)About Us: Our group was originally formed for two reasons. The first was to create a succession game for people who had never played one before. The other motivation was to train players(like myself) to get away from easy difficulty levels and move on to harder ones, with the eventual goal of reaching Deity, and now with Conquests, the Sid difficulty level.

3)Interested Yet? Good. We are relatively lax in terms of rules for our group. We don't kick people out if they miss a turn or do anything bizarre. We take what we have and work with it. The goal is to learn to play Civ 3 and have fun. The requirements for our group are the following:

a-You must be able to beat Chieftan: We likely will be playing our next game on Regent, but don't worry if you haven't played that level. The nature of succession games usually prevents any one person from destroying the game.

b-You should not be able to beat a level greater than Regent(at least on a regular basis). When you sign up, just say what the highest level difficulty you have beaten is, and we'll let you know if you fit in. There is flexibility here, and its really more of a subjective thing. If you have any doubt just ask, and we'll let you know right here.

c- You should not be a succession game expert. Chances are if you've played in a large number of succession games, you're pretty good already.

d-You need to have PTW patched to the latest version available. We will probably switch to Conquests at some point.

e-As with all succession games you'll have to post what you did each turn. We are relatively lax about what you post about each turn as long as we get the important info.

If I just confused you with all of that double talk, let me put it simply. If you can't beat Deity, and you want to learn with us how to do it, then you're in the right place. You also don't have to know a lot of acronyms. We're all here to learn, and I picked up a ton of new tips just from my first succession game. I learned a few tricks in DGIT # 1 alone.

Let the sign ups begin!

Sorry for intervention, I'm new to SG. You earlier posted that the goal is to beat Deity but are trying with Regent. It might be better to try at least Emperor. It is not that difficult indeed, you just have to micromanage everything and develop rapidly in the starting 50 turns. So, if you change your mind about difficulty, please pm me and it can be an interesting training game. I read a thread about your previous SG and you can probably play Emperor with some little guidance. You and your team are too strong for Regent indeed. You played well and won very easily. In case of C3C which is slightly more difficult to play, it can be a good Monarch game or still Emperor.

Hi Akots,

While we may be a strong team, and we may be capable of more than regent, the main drive in this game is to try to get some of the newer and less experienced people on the forum to participate, and wile there are a fair number of them who play on higher levels than regent, the ones who are just starting out could get scared off by the difficulty level.

I for one tried sid level for a laugh once, and after nearly having a heart attack when i saw the number of AI units walking around, I then had my rear handed to me on a plate.

I think it would be best if we stuck with regent for now, after all its only our second game and once we are comfortable with the way the game works, then we take on the higher settings.

Thanks for the feedback aKots :) :thanx:

SolarKnight

I'll join. I just entered my first SG yesterday, with SolarKnight actually. I would like to join. Is this PTW then?

Hi Oblivion. The version has yet to be decided, the last game was on PTW, but the version for DGIT-2 has yet to be decided, we will probably be discussing this soon.

All i can say at the moment is: Watch This Space.

and Welcome to the Demigods in training!! [dance] [party]

BTW: before i am reprimanded by Sandrock, which difficulty do you normally play on?

akots:Thanks for the input. Solar Kinght explained it best. We're going to stay on Regent for a while. It may be easy for us, but one of the goals of our group is to allow people who have never played succession games to join up and find out what they are all about. Also, there are a lot of victory conditions we have to work with. One of the reasons I love Civ is there is a ton of replay value.

SolarKnight: you are ppretty much on the money with all your information so no reprimand needed:D I believe that -Oblivion- is not a monarch or higher level player yet. Just a feeling on my part. So we'll roll out the red mat for him, and 3 more people in the future.

-Oblivion-:Welcome aboard!

I'm going to test out the 1.15 beta patch today for conquests. I know I don't want to play 1.00 Conquests. We may want to hold off for the official release of the 1.15 patch which I believe is at the end of February.

And I'm instituting the "no ROP rape rule" for our team, which both Solar Kinght and I learned for the first time last game(although I don't think either of us had ever used it before anyway). The rule goes something like this:

-You may not sign a Right of Passage agreement then move troops into the territory of the civ you hold a right of passage with and then proceed to place the units around the cities and obliterate your opponent. You get a reputation hit when you do this, and it makes the game far too easy.

Welcome aboard, Oblivion! :D

How do we want to win this next one? Since the last one was a military victory, it might be interesting to go for spaceship-- or, we can just play along and make up our mind as we go.

Looks like I'm just in time.;) I've played and beaten Regent, but it was very difficult for me, and have never tried to go beyond that. This would be my first SG game, and like I stated in the other game, wouldn't be able to play til the 19th, so I'd have to be at the end of the list.;) I'd like to play on C3C 1.15 if we all have it. I've been playing it, and found very few bugs... the only concern is Fobidden Palace. I'm good with any kind of victory, but would really like to have culturally linked starts turned off... Either way, I'm fine with it though.;) Standard world, with civs random is fine with it. Maybe we could try one of the new C3C civs. Just a thought! Talk to y'all soon!

1)A spaceship victory sounds good to me.

2) Welcome aboard alerum68!

3) C3C 1.15 is ok with me assuming SolarKnight and Smellincoffee have it. I thought Forbidden Palace was fixed in 1.15 though?

that sounds perfect to me Sandrock, im all patched up and ready to go. [dance]

As for victory conditions, whatever the team agrees on is fine by me.

The FP is fixed in 1.15 AFAIK but it doesnt have the same effect as in PTW, ive heard it just boosts the OCN number from reading the posts on the forum.

BTW: welcome aboard alerum68! [dance] [party]

The FP is fixed but it sucks. Seems the best idea is to have it within 2-3 cities of your capitol, and early is better because it'll add to your OCN, for more rapid growth early, and if you think about it, that is the roughest part of the game.

I'm reading DGIT #1, and was thinking who ever goes first should take 20 turns since it takes so many turns to get so little done at the start. Are we going to randomize everything, or are we going to choose the world to suit our civ?

Since it's space race we're going for should probably go with Sumeria, Korea, or Byzantines. (want to try one one of the new civs) If we're playing on Archipeligo we should go with the Byzantines. The Dromon is so cool.;) Of course Sumeria is agricultural and that is VERY VERY powerful now. But I'd only want to play them on large land masses like continet or pangea. Unless we're planing on midevil warfare I can't think of anything that would be able to help us with the Koreans.

Or we can go with one of the old stand-bys from Civ3. I'd actually like to go with Sumeria because of the agricultural bonus we'll get.

One thing about screen shots... could we try to post them so it doesn't stretch the message text, or post it in a second post? so much easier to read that way.

If you'll have me, I'd love to join your SG. As long as its on Conquests 1.15 that is. I don't get to play too often at home (a 3month old keeps one busy!), so I'm not real interested in backtracking to PTW (or trusting PTW that came with Conquests).

I've never played an SG before, have beaten Regent both times I've played it and currently playing Monarch for the first time. So I think I fit the group profile here.

If you'll have me, count me in!

BTW, any land mass is fine. Both Sumeria and Byzantines sound interesting. The Dromon does look like a blast and Agriculture should provide an interesting twist to settling strategy.

Bye for now!

Welcome to DGT, alerum68! :D

Aye, I have C3C1.15. Space race sounds good, too-- we can test how the new requirments for some parts effects it. :)

I'll vote for Korea. I don't like Sumer's neighbors. ;)

That sounds good to me guys. Korea sounds like a good choice.

Korea would be a good civ for space race, though we would have to try to be extremely peaceful due to the nature of our UU, I'm not quite sure how it works in conquests as i havent really been Korea much, but it wont be easy to get our golden age with our UU, we would have our best chance of getting it by wonders.

other good civs would be the greeks, babylonians or perhaps the ottomans.
