DGIT2 230BC

If it isn't obvious by my moves, I'm ready for us to prepare for war. We are out of real estate. I want the Americans eradicated, and really I would like the whole continent to ourselves. Swordsman should only be built in cities with barracks and we should have a stack of 5-10 of them before heading to America. All cities should have sufficient defense before attacking as well, especially cities close to America. The only problem is we are about to get Republic.. Monarchy is better suited for war. Maybe we'll get lucky and get it from the GL. When we've taken enough space for ourselves we should hop over to republic. A good time for that would be when the GL expires. And I ran a defecit most of my turn, to keep the research going. We may need to adjust the sliders fairly soon.

Nice turns Sandrock LQ! :goodjob: We have the Great Library! Yeah, baby. Do we want to think about dialing back on research and let the GL do its work?

Nice city grabs. I agree, its time Abe met our hammer. But it looks like we need to reinforce in some of our new holdings before taking Abe on. Are we thinking limited war or annihilation? :D Also, the primary goal for war should be to take Abe's iron resources at all cost. That way we can end early and come back at him with stronger units while he struggles with spear. :p

Oh, BTW. I got it. :cool:

I'll probably play sometime Saturday or Sunday, so bring on the ideas.

Go for the iron so America can't build swordsman, but I was thinking total anihalation. I seem to still have some Roman blood leftover from last game.

For some reason, in every single game where I start off near the Americans, they end up being one of my first targets for decontamination... I guess this is not gonna be any exception. =D

Goals: We have Great Library, so we'll sit back a bit and let it do some work. Maybe min research toward Currency. Republic is a bit rough to war with especially with lack of luxes. So try and get Monarchy from Sumeria. Build swords and get forces outside Boston, Philly, and Seattle. Build MP's in north as Americas horses will be able to reach there quick.

[0] 230BC
Republic due in 1, so pull slider back, to bring in 24 gpt. MM Seoul clown to tax collector.
Switch Namp'o to library to rax due in 9. It has many bgs to mine.

IBT
Learn Republic -> currency. Don't revolt at this time.
Pyongyang sword -> spear for the colonies.
Sumerians start Hanging Gardens AND Mausoleum of Mausollos.

[1] 210BC
Sword heads to Philly area.
Not sure why worker is outside of Boston. Send to mine for Kaesong. Kaesong switches from swordman to spear (was building warrior, but now connected to iron.) Aack. Automoving settler! Anyhow, attempting to send one settler to west of Cheju and Wonsan. One near Sumerican flood plain.
Byzantines give 38 gold for ROP.
Seoul taxman now scientist. Min research toward Currency.

IBT
Byz warrior moves away. American horse moves around Seattle. Sumerican archer from Bad-tibra moves south.
Seoul Barracks -> sword.
Taejon spear -> walls

[2] 190BC
Worker movement. Nam'po spear sent north.

IBT
Sumerian archer moves closer. Wonsan culture boundary expands.

[3] 170BC
Mine bg outside Wonsan.
Build embassy in Washington for 33 gold. Washington's on a fresh water lake, size 3. It is building Temple of Artemis due in 96! :lol: Guarded by 2 swords.
Build embassy in Sumerican City of Ur for 45 gold. Its pulling in 7 spt, and is size 7. They have no luxes or resources connected, but are building Pyramids, due in 41. 2 clowns assigned.
Build embassy in Mongol town of Karakorum. Half its land is marsh. Building Oracle due in 39. Have horses connected and 4! ivory.Its size 5 pulling in 4spt.
Ulsan temple build switched to harbor for some growth.

IBT
Pyongyang spear -> sword.

[4] 150BC
Sariwon founded near Sumeria. Starts warrior.
Decide to bump research some. Currency in 19 at +12gpt.

IBT
Some movement by Sumerican archer and Byz warrior.
Seoul sword-> temple for a bit more growth.
Chonju warrior -> walls.
Mongols start Temple of Artemis.

[5] 130BC
:sleep:

IBT
Spot American settler outside Boston. Pyongyang culture expands.
Wonsan rax -> sword
Kaesong spear -> library.

[6] 110BC
Kaesong warrior sent to Wonsan to upgrade. First sword pulls up outside Philly.
Abe has extra horses hooked up.

IBT
Namp'o rax -> sword.
Hyangsan sword -> sword.
Inch'on library -> walls

[7] 90BC
2nd sword pulls up outside Philly.

IBT
Pyongyang sword -> sword.

[8] 70BC
New sword heads to Inch'on, near Boston - American fur city.

IBT
Cheju library -> rax

[9] 50BC
Forest chop started outside Paegam. Spear reinforces Sariwon.
Seattle size 1. Must have popped a settler.

IBT
Seoul builds temple. Pull scientist off and can build sword in 2!
Wonsan sword -> temple (growth in 7 will riot)
Taejon walls -> library.
Inch'on and Hyangsan grow culture. Our horses can now be connected.

[10] 30BC
Go away. Nothing to see here.

Okay. The situation. In another turn we will have 5 swords just outside Philly. The northern territories still are not connected to the south, but at least have some defense. We'll need courthouses that way to get much from them. Also, 1 sword is outside Boston. 4 swords are currently being built and can be directed wherever.

We are still in Despotism. We still have a Monopoly on Literature (we can probably bankrupt everyone if we sell it around) and Republic (don't sell!). The Great Library earned us nothing this round. America has a tech on us - Construction. As does Sumeria - Monarchy.

Workers are mining bg's to build swords faster. Also roading to connect northern territories.

The SAVE

Oh. Watch Seoul. Its fine now at current slider level, but its going to grow and may riot next turn. Change a pop to a scientist or tax collector to fix.

And Wonsan will riot in 7.

I hear the battle axes being sharpened! :hammer:

Alright I just was thinking... The way that the great library works is when 2 civs get the same tech we get it... I know it sounds weird, but shouldn't we try and give as much low levels techs as we can so everyone will be someone on par with us, for now, but we can turn off research, or make it next to nothing, and let them pull us into the middle ages. It is a big gamble though, and we probably wouldn't want to trade with America GPT deals, but just an idea in my head.

alerum68,

You know I thought of that myself. But I think we have the perfect setup right now. We need Construction and Currency to move on to the Middle Ages (where we get a free tech ;) ). Only America has Construction. We don't want America to move to the middle ages and to maybe be able to build pikes as that would hurt us in our war effort. The other nations will eventually research Currency and Construction for us. But in the mean time, we can slow research or set it to min, like I did for about half my turn. This will help us to stockpile gold for upgrades. Actually that's how I funded all the embassies. I did amp up research a bit, but only as long as we pulled a profit. Just to spead things up.

Now once the Middle Ages are launched the strategy tightens. We probably research down the Gunpowder branch to prolong the Library effect and let the civs research the other branch.

And definitely no deals with America. We'll probably be at war in less than 20. As for war, watch out for the fast moving horses. Don't fight across a river. And try and declare honorably, ie, don't be in America before declaring. We want to avoid any rep hits, even if small at this stage in the game.

:cool:

Also remember to declare before attacking, and not by attacking, since declaration via attack is also dishonourable.
I think it would be a good idea to trade Lit around before our monpoly expires. We may also want to trade Republic to America for whatever she can give right before the war, to get them into Anarchy (and then peace-loving Republic). This is a huge gamble, but it is in option. If we do it we may as well trade it to everyone else (or the richer tribes at least) so that America doesn't do it herself.

I didn't know this. I thought this was okay as long as 1) there were no outstanding deals and 2) the attack was not in their territory. Thanks for the tip. :)

I held on to Literature mainly because there wasn't much gold out there to make it worthwhile. I was hoping we could at least get a few gpt out of it, but trading it isn't a bad idea.

And trading Republic before war to America is a great idea. We could get Construction from them for it, as well. But don't trade until just before war. Heh, Republic would weaken them quite a bit, as they don't have more than one luxury either. And Anarchy would hurt them a bit too. Nice and evil. :satan:

I'm back!! Printed and turned in that research paper today. :D It'll feel good to play civ again.

The problem with giving them Republic is that if we don't sell it to everyone else as well, America will... We gotta decide if it's more important to us to weaken America, or to keep the rest of the tribes from prospering.

Welcome back Smellincoffee! The game is beginning to get a little interesting so you are just in time. :D

I agree, the possibility exists that America will trade Replublic out, but I find it unlikely at this point. Goverment techs are way overvalued by the AI. No one has anything of value to trade for it. In fact America has Construction, but hasn't traded it at all so far and Construction is no where near as valued as Republic. Just look at Sumeria. They have Monarchy but, at least going into my turns, lacked 4 other techs we had. I couldn't trade Monarchy for all of those techs. Government techs are just too rich.

Its true that Replublic wouldn't be a monopoly anymore so its value would be down, but its still high value. We could trade it around, but we would only possibly get Construction from America and Monarchy from Sumeria, plus a bit of gold from each of the Mongols and the Byzantines. Unless trading for strategic reasons (war with America), I would hold onto it at least until another tech was out there to get.

Well that's the thing... There's no need for us to trade for any techs right now, thanks to the Great Library, so we should give America Republic only if we think that's the only way we could get what we want from this war... We could always go to war without it, then if we see it doesn't go as planned, we sign peace, build up our army for 20 turns, give them Republic for whatever they've got, give them one turn so they go into anarchy, and then declare war again...

Alrighty. Good luck on those exams. :)
