DGIT # 2-Krafty Koreans

[dance]
Whoo! I'm up!
At school right now, so I'll get the save and play my batch later today probably. I get to do another war, yay. =D

Nice job on keeping the fight on. Looks like Blasphemous should be able to tidy things up.

Per regular units. Why bother to disband them? That's a lot of wasted shields. We aren't expecting to war too much once our continent is secure, and we all know regular units aren't much of an issue right now. But under Monarchy and Communism they server as MP's in our cities, which, at least until we can trade for some more luxuries, are sorely needed. Especially in our new conquests where happiness control will be difficult due to high corruption. I say keep the units around. We can always build more units, but we aren't in any danger right now. In fact, don't bother to upgrade the regular units at this time either. Why waste the moola? Money will be valuable for trades. A spear serves as MP just as well as a musket.

As for the wonders, Smith's is commercial which would definitely trigger our GA (we have the GL which is scientific). In fact, I'm not looking at the save, but if we've captured either the Colossus or the Lighthouse, then our next wonder build, any wonder, will trigger our GA. The Internet would be great and we should probably build it, but we need Smiths. I love Smiths. The income boost is great and it will trigger our GA in the industrial age which is perfect.

An IA-GA is wasted if it comes in before we have railroads and factories in. I think missing Smith's (which I love too) is permissable... Remember, what we need is a spaceship. And for that our boost would be best used right in the modern age - where Internet is placed. Holding out will be well worth the bother.
About regular units, I agree with SpikeIt. We won't be seeing much action once the continent is ours. I do however think we should keep our defensive forces constantly upgraded. You can never know when someone will send over a half dozen transports full of MA and declare. We would not be want to get caught with muskets and an empty treasury if that happened.

Okay, so we'll aim for a late IA, early MA GA, (with a BA and a TA and some other kind of A), and build smiths, if it's still other there when we're all railroaded. Smiths is going to be a great wonder to have... IF! we build trade based improvements in all our cities. Do we really have alot of marketplaces and other things that Smith's would pay for?

Bleh, I'll prolly play my turns tomorrow evening rather than today... Not feeling up to it right now. Sorry

If we're feeling evil, we can mobilize for war when we start on the space ship. ;-)

We can mobilize for war, but that will quickly take away our ability to build the space ship. Only military builds when you mobilize.

I knew you couldn't start on cultural buildings, but I wasn't aware it extended to all non-military items. Well, we can mobilize once we get to the last parts and they're already being built by our cities.

Man this stuff got complicated in a hurry. I never used to worry about when I triggered a golden age in the past.

And thank god we don't have to build galleys anymore.

Amen to that! :)

Having our golden age in the MA would be helpful in building the spaceship, but really an IA golden age probably benefits us best as it will help us to quickly build up those factories, power plants, etc to make us a powerhouse quickly. Smiths will get us free harbors (have a few of those), marketplaces (yup, have a bit and will have many more), banks ( none yet, but will have many), and airports (okay, maybe we won't have tons, but still...).

When we get to the modern age, we can always cause some discord over on the other continent (or two or...) to help us out. If they are fighting, we are winning...

Of course, upgrade units to an extent to not leave us with an out of date army, but its fine to MP with a spear, a pike, and a mechanized infantry. You never know when you will need to take out a tank busting archer or the like.

Speaking of wonders. We have Astronomy, have we started Copernius yet? If not, pick a high $$ city to build it in. We're on regent. We should be able to get quite a few wonders from now on.

Bleh, for reasons beyond my control I will not be able to play till in a few hours... No less than one hour, probably no more than three, but I don't know... If you guys rather not wait for me, skip me. If you don't mind, then I will play as soon as I can. =\

Take your turns. We can wait. One of the rules SandrockLQ set down was that there was no strict turn around times in this SG. I imagine we could wait another hour or three, at least. :D We wouldn't want to take away from your Byzantine squashing fun afterall.

K, sorry it took me so long, I'm gonna play right now...
It's Independance Day here... Got home, took care of a few matters, then found out I have a barbacue to attend to.

Initital observations and adjustments:
We have no ships, nor any cities building ships. Construction is switched in three cities so we now have one Privateer on the way and two Frigates.

IBT:
Byzzies move a bit, force one knight to retreat from the siege of their capital.

1380ad (1):
Some knights and our first Frigate are complete. =D
Single Byzzy Regular Pike survives massive bombardment before being finally yellowed. oO
Next Reg Pike also manages to doge rockets for long enough to exhaust our supply of Hwachas. He is then executed by a wounded MDI. oO
I think it is safe to say that the RNG is now officially insane. ;)
Some moderate combat to weaken enemy capital defenses for next turn's pounding. Stopped after realizing my knights will be in no kind of shape to fight after this futile siegework.
Several newly retaken cities are set to science to starve the Byzzy Pezzies.
Many Workers set to Build Trade. Sorry, but this is necessary at this stage.

IBT:
Nothing notewrothy
1385ad (2):
The siege continues, this time bombings are a bit luckier, but limited offensive forces disallow me to do serious damage.
A spearman shows up, AND KILLS THE ELITE KNIGHT I SEND AT IT WHILE GETYING REDLINED. :'(
Sorry, I probably shouldn't have wasted an elite... =\
Another elite knight kills a 2-hp regular pike.
Boston MMed to grow sooner.
Some Spearmen sporadically upgraded to Muskets, to push us in the right direction.

IBT:
Byzzies make some silly moves.
1390ad (3):
Byzzy capital apparently has very scarce defense. Vet pike brought down to 2 hp, and then a Spearman who somehow fortified with the NW animation (?!) appears. When he is yellowed, and pike goes red, an ELITE WARRIOR appears. It's not freakin' funny, Theo. -.-
VARNA IS OURS! Whooooo!!!! =O
Siege shifted towards new Byzzy capital at Caesarea. (He he... I've actually been to Caesarea IRL.)

IBT:
Byzzy Longbowman slays lone Elite Knight. Blargh.

1395ad(4):
Elite Knight destroys evil Longbowman.
LAND AHOY!!!!!
A purple border is spotted by our skillful Frigate. =D

IBT:
Nithin'
1400ad (5):
SCANDINAVIA CONTACTED! Finally! This Lodbrok guy is the son of Odin, turns out. =O
He has pretty much nothing but one city. He's behind us in tech. I'm thinking he lost a major war against them Celts.
Follow his borders in order to find other rivals. Dark red border comes into sight but the Frigate falls a tile short of it.

IBT:
Nae much.
1405ad (6):
Banking is ours. Set to work on Theory Of Gravity.
Our great Pirate Fleet gets its first ship, soon to be joined by many more.
Contact is made with the dark red people of Japan. Tokugawa is not much better off than old Loddy. Except he has way more cities. But not as much as us. Bleh. Also, he is still in the Ancient Age. oO
With its last move, our other Frigate sees a light green border. Hmmm...
The siege on Caesarea is now ready to commence, once the Hwacha operators get some rest.
I notice I have a LOAD of workers and defenders on automated routes mostly northwards. Sorry about this, I was dead tired last night when I played the first half of my batch.

IBT:
Null.
1410ad (7):
Palace expanded.
Persia contacted. They have some luxuries, but they are also behind us in tech and in cities... They still are pretty big, both of our Frigates reach them at different points about an eighth of a map away from eachother.

The siege on Caesarea begins:
Two veteren pikes taken down to 1 hp and still not replaced! CHAAARRGE!!!!
Caesarea is ours. Well that was bloody easy. =\
Contact theo and resist urge to gift here half the empire. Instead ask her to give us all she got for peace. Which is 8 gold. Decide to wait till my last turn to sue for peace again in hope she has something to offer.

IBT:
*whistles idly*
1415ad (8):
Northern border of Loddy's realm sighted, along with orange spanish ship.
Spain contacted. Bella is on par with us on tech, way behind on size.
Rome discovered and contacted. They're behind us on tech, and on size. Got two luxeries we lack, but have none to spare.
Theo's resources dwindle.

IBT:
...
1420ad (9):
A Privateer of ours destroys a lone Persian galley.
Celts found and contacted. The Brenster is a bit behind us on cities and on par with us technologically.
Start disbanding some units (Knights and MDIs) to further developement in Newer and Newest Korea. We won't be needing this amount of offensive force any time soon, and I assume Cavalry and Guerilla will do us little good in the eventual MA wars we will face.

IBT:
Spanish Galley sinks our Privateer. :'(
1425ad (10):
Theo gives 15 gold + 1 slave for peace. I figure we can extort her later with tech and with threats.
I suddenly notice we have met everyone in the world. =O
Upgrade a few spears and pikes.
Optimize Boston so no laborer is wasted. If happiness does not improve, the Palace will be complete in 48 turns. If it does improve, the city will have to be MMed a bit and then the Palace will be ready quicker.

Not much to say, just keep building Privateers, they're cheap, they're fast, and we can use them to harm our rivals without war.

Get yer save here.

Sounds like a busy mess of war... ouch on the elite knight versus the spearman, though.

Ack. What happened? I thought we had a couple galleys about? Privateers. Hey, what the heck I guess.

Contacts abound and only two civs on par with us. What the heck have they been doing all this time. Geesh. Any chance we can trade some techs around for some luxes? We need to kick start these civs to get the tech race moving.

Oooh. Valuable MP's. Gone. :(

Overall great job. :goodjob: A few bad moves on the fighting and some more rotten RNG luck, but our goal is complete. Of course with the Byzantines and Mongols still around, they can spread the word about our aggressive ways. Maybe we eliminate them before communications start being traded?

Keep exploring the oceans. Maybe there is another land mass out there hiding some luxuries. They have to be somewhere.

I don't think we should invest in Privateers. What's the point, besides fun in enslaving other ships? Its a waste of shields. We're disbanding old units which can be used for MP duty, apparently saving us money, but then we are building privateers. I don't see the logic.

Basically, we need to start the space push. Build infrastructure, build up corrupt cities to an extent in prep for communism. Start trading techs to speed up tech race. Japan apparently has lots of cities. Sounds like a nice trading partner to prop up. Persia has luxuries, maybe we can throw some tech their way in exchange?

With ToG on the way, we need to look toward steam power and rails (please have coal. Please.) Hopefully no one gets jealous of our veteran space program. ;)
