DH03-Empire of Blood and Iron

I have a question for the SG. Although it hasnt happened, i would like an answer to a hypothetical question. Do we want to make peace, and if so, what would you consider as conditions? Straight up? A tech?

Also, i presume we want to build Oxford U in Novgorod or Zhou. Hermitage? Ironworks? Mt Rushmore? Should we even try for Pentagon? I probably wont have a chance to build them, but the next player might, and it would be good to discuss this. I presume that we should build Globe T in our most unhappy city.

Yekaterinburg or Moscow - Ironworks?
Forbidden Palace - Cantebury, London?

I'm not sure on the variant rules if we're supposed to stay at war once we have our "revolution" or not. I'm tempted to go with peace just so we can build up our military again.

Haven't looked at the game in a while so don't have any suggestions on your build questions.

I think we're allowed to sign peace. There's nothing in the rules that prohibit it; I think we just play a normal game now besides the fact that some of our civics are fixed.

Personally, I'd push vicky as hard as possible. However, when she gets Infantry we should probably sign peace and get as much as we can out of it (especially if we haven't managed to capture London).

I have no idea about national wonders, though I don't think Forbidden Palace matters to us. We're running State Property, after all.

[0] 1884 AD Looks good.

[1] 1886 AD Start a bank in Yekaterinburg, and an observatory in Moscow. We need science and money. St Pete starts a cannon for the assault on London. More pillaging and English gren killing.

[2] 1888 AD Move two cannons and an assault stack near Cantebury. Frigates keep Vicky's northern towns @ 0% defense. No deals are possible. "We are becoming too advanced." FDR declares on Mao.

[3] 1890 AD Bombard Canterbury's defenses. Moscow starts an infantry. St Pete and Zhou start jails.

[4] 1892 AD Canterbury is taken with the loss of two infantry. FDR is moving a frigate with 3 galleons somewhere. Hope it's not us.

[5] 1894 AD Consolidate our forces in Canterbury and heal them.

[6] 1896 AD Start on physics. A beeline to industrialism, for tanks. Burn up our scientist on physics. We pass up Vicky in score (we are second). A clam for deer deal with FDR eliminates unhealthiness in our cities. Turn Moscow avoid growth off.

[7] 1898 AD I've been workin' on the railroad. Vicky loses a catapult, a cav, and two redcoats trying to take out our pillagers near London. I promote one of them to medic and set them to heal.

[8] 1900 AD Moscow builds a worker and starts on an infantry. Several of London's cats are burned up taking out our pillager stack. Mao is dead.

[9] 1902 AD St Pete builds a worker and starts on a cossack. GK makes peace with Bismarck. I get a world map from Louis for 10 gold and our map.

[10] 1904 AD Our assault stack is fully healed and starts towards London. We attack from the south to avoid crossing a river. Zhou has a workboat in one turn for the fish tile SW.

Well, FDR is running away in this game. It remains to be seen whether we can contain his growth. Certainly, we will need tanks and lots of them. He has destroyers, and probably has industrialism. Long live Mother Russia!

The march continues.

Military:
London captured with few casualties. We got lucky & most of the close battles ended with our forces at 1.0 strength. I set up two Medic upgrades and got them back to full in 4 turns. Our army marches west to the Confucian holy city; capturing it will relieve a lot of the cultural pressure on London.

Our prayers have been answered: Louis declared war on Washington. I also convinced Genghis to declare war on Washington by handing him Physics; a bit expensive, but it'll be worth it to weaken them enough for us to march in.

We now have Infantry to spare; I'd suggest sending three SW & three NE to capture those border towns; they only have two Redcoats protecting them apiece.

Domestic:
Factories & coal plants built, as well as more troops. Workers are breaking their backs setting up new railroads to the front lines. Corn hooked up, Democracy learned. Between corn & Emancipation, most of our anger & health problems are gone. Reverted back to Electricity to build tanks.

Notes:
Victoria is crumbling; the only question is how long it'll take for us to reach Washington. I'd suggest continuing our push west, sue Victoria for peace once we capture her major cities. (Try to get a tech or two out of the deal.) Then do a surprise attack on Washington, hopefully before he's done with Khan & Louis. One thing I'd like to note:

That's Washington's only source of Oil, and it's right next to Victoria's borders. Pillaging it will cripple his air power.

We definitely want to research Combustion & Flight next. In fact, I'd suggest doing that before building tanks. We need to match Washington's sea power, and air bombings cause serious damage.

For some reason the autologger didn’t work. That’s odd.

Not a whole lot happened other than a lot of fighting. Louis did come by and ask us to stop trading with Roosevelt. I agreed.

I captured York and burned one of England’s southern coastal cities to the ground. It was only size three so saw no reason to keep it. We’re already having trouble with cash. England’s northeastern city has several cannons and one each of infantry and Cossack. We should be able to take it next turn. I would suggest burn it as well as it’s located in the ice. Sorry for my low info report. I need to figure out why the auto logger didn’t work.

Roster:
DeceasedHorse- MIA
Talamane- On Deck
Mike Lemmer
Methos- Just Played
Corbeau- Up

Got it.

Our strategy as I understand it:

1) Stomp Vicky into irrelevance.
2) Improve our industrial base.
3) Improve our military technologically, especially our navy.
4) Take FDR's oil with our first advance.

Not sure how far down that list I'm going to get. ;)

[0] 1928 AD Run science down to 60 and culture to 10. Reduces the bleeding to -28, and still gets elec in 6. The plan is to bump science back up when elec comes in.

[1] 1929 AD Burn down the English ice town, settler from Moscow due in one. We now have only 3 cities with attitude problems, and most of them have no temples. FDR takes Rheims.

[2] 1930 AD Put some grocers in our major cities in an attempt to bring the budget in line.

[3] 1931 AD Vicky tries to run a settler guarded by two redcoats to re-settle the burned down southern city. Lose a cossack but gain a worker. WW is a real mess. We need Mt Rushmore. So, make peace with Vicky. No techs, what a stubborn woman. Cleaned out her coffers (240 g). How did Yaro lose its forge? No observatory in St Pete? I could have sworn there was one.

[4] 1932 AD Found Vladivostok west of Yaro on the coast, mostly for denial. Ouch goes the finances.

[5] 1933 AD Electricity comes in and so does our finances.

[6] 1934 AD Infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure. Starts on Mt Rushmore, Pentagon, Wall Street.

[7] 1935 AD Wall Street and Oxford U should go in Zhou. Zhou makes more money than Novgorod, at least at the moment.

[8] 1936 AD Railing and railing. No one will sell us biology. The old WFYABTA thingie.

[9] 1937 AD I sell dyes to Louis for 5 GPT. Bad deal for us, but it helps him weather FDR. Then he makes peace.

[10] 1938 AD We get a GE. He can finish the Pentagon, so i move him to Moscow. I will play on to 1940 AD.

[11] 1939 AD zzzz.

[12] 1940 AD Pentagon completes in Moscow. Start Broadway. Can be safely vetoed.

We should go for biology or industrialism next. Since we have attitude problems, probably industrialism. I started a workboat in Zhou or Yaro for the fish, but it got vetoed. Let's try to get that. There is a settler on goto to grab the crabs on the north coast. Also we have a spare settler in Novgorod for combat purposes.

It looks peaceful from up here.
