Just started a hotseat game with my cousin. I'm playing sheiam, and he Calabim.

As luck would have it, we both started very close together, and bradeline's well was between us. I settled a city near it to have it in my radius.

We turned last days on, of course. And the intention is to overrun the world with demons and bring forth hell, etc. Worried about one minor thing though

I know the hordes of demons from the well will happily ignore me, but what about him? Bradeline's well is 5 squares from his capital, which seems to be somewhat of a liability. Are the horde of demons going to overrun his empire ?

I've played this sort of game before (on noble difficulty) and seen what they can do. we're on emperor now, and if the demons go after him, I know he doesn't have a hope, even with his uber vampires

However, I noticed an oddity. The AC hasn't started to climb yet, and AV isn't founded (though I'm rushing it as fast as possible) but a Pit Beast spawned from the well... and it wasn't barbarian. It was mine. I could control it, with the purple flag and everything.

Is this intended? Am I going to get to control the army of demons that spawns?

Also, since I plan to adopt AV, I will therefore be at peace with the demons. but what will happen if I then declare a permanant alliance with him? Will the demons be at peace with him too, or will they declare war on me?

Is there any way to save my ally from armageddon?

I think after entering a PA he'll get your peace with the demons.

If he doesn't, he can make the Pact of Agares or somesuch ritual once you've researched Infernal Pact. It's pretty clear when you get to the rituals, I just can't see it from here at work :)

If the Sheaim control the Well (inside their territory), it can spawn demons under their control. Until the Elohim purify it. Pit Beast is the more rare result, normally it would be an Imp IIRC.

And yes, your buddy will be overrun by the Demons unless he completes Pax Demonica or whatnot.

So what effect will a permanant alliance have ?

Am I going to lose my peace with the demons if I sign a permanant alliance before he completes Pax Demonica? Will it have any effect at all, or are the demons just going to attack him, and continue not attacking me, even when we're considered one civ as far as relations go, to everyone else?

Are Pit Beasts and Imps all I'll get? I remember one FF game I played as Sheiam, I was near the well but didn't control it. It was spawning barbarian demons constantly (demonic hordes). Succubi, wraiths, elementals, azers, all sorts of things like that.

Will I get control of those? or will they remain barbs ?

How exactly do they do that? I have been trying them out lately and have yet to figure out which unit uses what ability at what tech...

I'm pretty sure that's an event that they trigger by moving a unit onto it.

Which reminds me. Is there any way I can prevent the elohim from doing this? Declaring war on them and keeping a unit on it seems like the only option.

I don't think keeping borders closed will work, because they have the Devout unit that can enter territory without open borders.

Ok, I'm looking in the Pedia, and I see the Pax Diabolis ritual. That's presumably what is meant here.

nothing is listed in it's "requirements" though. And my buddy doesn't have the option to build it yet, so what has to be done to make that possible?

I have had various units on to it. Scout, Acolyte, Axemen, Stonewarden, thus far none have purified it, nor gained an ability to cast something while standing there.

Thus I assumed it requred a specific unit and/or tech level

Be at war with Demons, be Ashen Veil.

Once it's completed, any unit in the city that has completed the ritual can trigger it - which will destroy the city, create a whole lot of manes for Hyborem (if he's around) and grant peace with the demons.

Steep price, but Agares isn't known for being friendly...

I believe that Permanent Alliance should make him peaceful with them as soon as you become peaceful with them however. I know that was the case for Barbarian Trait leaders when I last had that situation (3vs3 team game against 1 human with 4 AIs - the other player got Archos as one ally and had peace with the barbarians all game long).

EDIT: It is based on Teams, and I believe a permanent alliance assigns you to a joint team - so it should work.

I KNOW it works if you start the game off as a team. Done it.

What I don't know is if one is at war and one is not when you ally, do you drag him into peace? or does he drag you into war?

See, the thing is, in all other cases, he drags you into war.

Is there a logical reason it should work differently for demons, or barbarians in general?

Think this is one that needs testing in practice.

If you are Sheaim however and adopt Ashen Veil after you are allied, he should benefit from the demon peace (the Sheaim player's team gains peace with the Demons as soon as he adopts AV). Not sure what will happen if the Sheaim are already AV and peaceful when the alliance is formed (as you said, it does tend to err on the side of war), but even in that case, if the Sheaim player can afford to toggle AV off and then on again, peace will be restored (Rosier would be a problem there...)

So, Pit Fiends are the RARE result from Bradeline's Well? I was getting about 3 for every Imp or other demon that poped out.
