I have seen your American bassball.

And have often worried for the umpire behind the plate.

If the ball dont get him (and it does) then the Pitcher or the Keeper will (and they do).

PS. Oh the game, nice moves. Regarding contact, hungle to the south may be detering units from there and water seems almost a cert to the North. We are quite far west and north.
 
I agree that jungle could be a very good defensive feature of this map. It will supply some insolation from contact and slow down fast attackers come the never-ending war.

Can I take this opportunity to say that I am playing TOUGH AW rules...

If you see an AI unit or goes to the diplo screen and can talk to the AI, YOU MUST TALK to the AI.

And you MUST declare war that turn...

Also no signing GPT deals before declaring WAR...

Good and remember that the almighty God that is DI! did state that the ultimate goal for the game is a 20k Cultural win...
We need WONDERS!!! Maybe a little early or maybe the coastal city can start collossus? It is quite sheltered.

I tried a solo AW 3 city game over the weekend.

Let me say that once you meet more than 3 other civs, the opposing military units start flying in. I think we should think about a good road network for defensive purposes, and a lot of defensive units. Obviously some offensive units help a lot too!

Let's just say that I got crushed playing solo! This is quite a challenge.
 
Melifluous - you're right, Tokyo would makea good location for a 20K city. We will need to get a temple the ASAP though to start the culture accumulating.

Some other thoughts from my solo attempt this past weekend. (Babs - but in some plains)

Picket lines of spears held out for quite a long time in spite of the terrain. With the jungle, they will be in very defensiveable land.

A mistake I made with the picket lines was not reinforcing enough. The road network will help with reinforcements.

Once the opposition gets into your core lands it is an uphill battle to regain control. Ideally, you can keep them out with your picket line.
 
Pre-Turn (2110BC) - Settler founds Tokyo and starts warrior.

Turn 1 - (2070BC) - Worker starts road to connect Tokyo.

Turn 2 - (2030BC) - Yawn.

Turn 3 - (1990BC) - Kyoto barracks -> warrior.

Turn 4 - (1950BC) - Masonry -> Mysticism.

Turn 5 - (1910BC) - Worker completes road to Tokyo, starts road
to Osaka. Kyoto size 4, Osaka size 3, rushes temple, now size 2.

Turn 6 - (1870BC) - Kyoto warrior -> warrior. Osaka temple -> warrior.

Turn 7 - (1830BC) - Yawn.

Turn 8 - (1790BC) - Kyoto warrior -> warrior. This warrior moves towards Osaka.

Turn 9 - (1750BC) - Yawn.

Turn 10 - (1725BC) - Kyoto warrior -> worker. Worker will complete as Kyoto hits size 5. Tokyo warrior -> barracks. Osaka's infuence expands. Research set to 60%, mysticism next turn.

I would advise that we go minimum research to Polytheism and get a load of gold. Build lots of warriors (Kyoto does a warrior every 2 turns at size 4) and when we have the cash connect the Iron and mass upgrade.
Our worker is autoroading to the west of Osaka. Maybe he should turn round and improve Tokyo when finished, Tokyo has 7 tiles to improve before clearing the Jungle. 2 BG, 2 normal grass and 3 hills. With all grass and two hills mined that will be 10spt. Osaka and Kyoto can squeeze out workers here and there.

Lots of military is a good thing. Roads are a good thing. Sounds like we are in decent shape for the Always War to begin.
