Diablo 3!

About damn time!

4million legal copies, I`d say there are millions and millions more, of shady gamers who enjoy D2.. Don`t know if you can have a pirated version of an MMO since it requires subscription.

I`d say the gfx are fine, I just wish they went back to the roots of handdrawn things as in D1, these remind me too much of WoW. But meh, its D3 dang nabbit, woohoo! :D

The stats on wikipedia with that 4mil number reflect how many were sold by 2001. I'm willing to bet that number is quite a bit higher by now.

You can, but IIRC you can only play on private servers and not on battlenet. Which kinda sux.
And i think a lot of people are buying WoW because ... everyone else is buying WoW. Seriously; just like americans do with Sims2.

There's a petition running agianst the comicqueske (!) design of D3 and a plea for a darker artistic direction.

Trailer looks awesome I would say, I'm considering reinstalling D2 but I hear there are some Vista issues..

While I do like dark and grittyness, maybe those screenshots are of areas that aren't compeltely tainted by evil and destroyed?

For the screenshots, my vote is for "After".

Also, I will probably agree with Good samaritan that I doubt I will be too excited even though it is *finally* here. I don't mind the isometric view point but I also wouldn't mind being able to rotate the view around. I hope you can tell your hirelings/pets to remain stationary. (Something I wanted in 2)

That sounds pretty plausible, and like a nice idea for the matter. To make the later areas seem more evil, the former are likely more colourful... If that's the case, why ask for a more gritty world?

I think the grittyness helps hide the cartoony models used a little. I think it makes the trees/brush, gates, and skeletons look alot better. It also still retains color rather well. This is nowhere near the level of brown/grey fad the FPS genre got into.

Well. It's finally happened.:shifty:

The destructible environments are a nice touch. There certainly seems to be a little more thoughtfulness to the gameplay, compared to Diablo II. The thought of scripted events really appeals to me. Sort of reminds me of the random batch of quests from original Diablo. I really missed that in D2.

As for the 'cartoonyness', I'm fairly happy with what they did. It's certainly not as cartoony as D2 was. But one doesn't have to revert to gray/brown mushfests to qualify as not being cartoony. Diablo wasn't cartoony, given the graphical capabilities of the time, and it was far from colorless. (If anyone can explain how I ended up reading about the Death of Superman for an hour, just now, I'd love to know how that happened.)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing it. The MMO culture has sent me fleeing from the gaming scene. It was mentioned that one had to be good at socialization for MMO's, but that's not all. One has to have a very high tolerance for an anti-Utopia culture.

I was fully expecting a 'World of Diablo' game. Kudos to Blizzard for not going down that road, as tempting as I'm sure it must have been. The stornyline, in my mind, seemed prime for such a game. With the Worldstone destroyed and the borders between the heavens and hells and the world of Sanctuary frayed and fading, the stage set for such a game, with no obvious direction for a plot. Even not caring for MMO's myself, I must admit that an MMO Diablo game seems on the surface filled with possibilities.

In the end, though, I am very glad they kept the isometric view revolving around a single-player story arc. I've heard that it will be battle.net based and free to play online, which would fit with a single-player based game.

So, looks like fun. I look forward to playing, but am not going to get my hopes too high.

Also, for you who still play Diablo II or occasionaly have the urge to, check out this Mod. They impliment a lot of really good ideas that should have been part of the game in the first place, and make the kind of extensive use of the Horadric Cube that it's transmutational abilities have cried for since you picked it up.

Eastern Sun Mod

I didnt try that mod. I tried this one instead since it was more apealing to me beacause of complete skill tree changes.

It seems sorta good - but at times it seems a bit too easy (at least with the Sorceress). Anyway it's worth checking out. Oh and when it says "Danger - High Level Area" they really mean that. It's part of a series of challenges for when you'll be higher level.

Yes, the only thing I've been disapointed in with the one I posted was the lack of fresh Skills. In ver.2 there were a lot of very altered skills, but I guess they had some balance issues with that, so reverted for ver.3. The skills are still different, but less so and are mostly just mixing parts of different skills.

There are quite a few high level areas in the one I mentioned, also. And it's very difficult. I still haven't gotten though Hell difficulty. =o

They also have a private Realm, hosted on D2 Maniacs, which was a pretty big selling point for me. I'm so annoyed that blizzard stopped allowing Mods on open battle.net. I mean, forgive me if I'm missing the point here, but that seems like the most legitimate use for Open. =/

I only played the first game a tiny bit once, but I do have the second game with the expansion. I don't know how far into the game I have got, but I'm playing the game as a druid. I didn't know that it could be modded, but I guess it's probably best that I complete it first.

So far I only seen a screen shot for the third one and I think it does have a similar art style to the second game.

Well Diablo never looked scary to me.. Silent Hill is scary. Diablo was just mindless mouse-raping against hordes of uninteligent enemies.. Its great fun, but I can`t think of a game as "scary" when you are slaying 463 enemies without breaking a sweat..

Well, he has never been silent hill scary but in both 1 and 2 when I finally reached him, it freaked me out. I mean it is the end boss, and he is huge. And in all both versions he freaked me out not only in size (as I am sure he will be humongous in this one too) but also in the way they make him look. IN o1 whenever I go back and play it now, he looks like a handicapped mutant dog. But he still looks scary in 2 IMO.

It doesn't "look" like diablo.
