I just replayed Cal to Power 2 on my PC without the ffmpeg videos (...) and I wasn't able
to build roads, farms etc. So i pulled up a video from yt and I realized I missed something...
It has been a long time since I played it last time...
And the question came up instantly... has C7 devs copied C2P2 1 click feats??
The comparison is stark but I find myself struggling not to see it...
Can you see it?

Why are people so obsessed with trying to find things Civ7 "copied" from other games?
I am sure many people are using it as a stick to beat the game with but as a general point of interest, the civ series historically was the bar that other games tried to reach and was inspired by.

Now it does seem that the series is increasingly taking more 'inspiration' from other games.

Can't think of anything original in civ 7 that was either in previous games in the series or in other games released before it. And in both instances generally implemented worse than the other versions of that idea.

Out of curiosity, was it difficult to get it to run on a modern pc?

GOG install fine but ffmpeg video are absent... probably would run better on an older pc..
Linux port I couldnt make it start, abandoned and tried W10. Also made a copy for mods
and installed a few, cIII graphics, and a couple of scenario. Without video is a bit sad, but the battles works
so the core game. I don't lnow if its possible to make it work decently in W10.

Because it feels the game was made with AI. And not only the Art looks fake, but many aspects in gameplay too. It seems to take inspiration all over.
Firaxis should release info if they slapped it together with ChatGPT.

I think AI will show up in the next iteration and could well create a far superior game experience than anything we have seen so far.

Bollocks.

The MOBAs that were birthed from what I think is the earliest iteration in an SC1 custom map called Aeon of Strife, to endless stories that you can jokingly say are ripping off the classical era stories for having the buildup, climax and resolution stuff you learn about it middle school.
Not to mention the fact humans have invented similar tools if not the same exact same tool when they were clearly isolated from each other in preancient history.
And how many times have you had an original thought, only to find out someone else had the same thought or worse, you forgot that you heard about it ages ago and thought it was original til you remembered it.
Or if you wanna go back a random amount of time civ ripped off X board game, because of Y concept, probably the squares/hexes for movement.
My friends had a fun time joking about how everything is an RTS cause it takes real time thinking to play anything when you jumped through enough hoops cause someone didn't want to play FPSes, but was fine with RTSes.

Unless you can prove clear intent to copy someone else/admission to taking inspiration, it's much better/easier to just go with coincidence.
Unless there's a patent involved, no real reason for anyone to dig deep to see if their idea was truly original.
Hell, mythical monsters were invented from people drawing wrong conclusions from skeletons (cyclops = elephant skull), it's stupid hard to come up with something original from a vacuum.
There's only so many ways you can invent something to satisfy people who are anal about 'originality' and you just have to bite the bullet after a while.

Allright allright... copy... copyright... I paraphrased it incorrectly...
I just pointed out some interesting aspect of a long forgotten game, I didn't mean to stir up a drama 'bout it...
At that time there was that guy that also tried to patent Civilization the board game and ultimately lost to 2K or Activision...
Long story short... It's nothing new under the sun...
