Did the Rollout ruin your enthusiasm?

Not at all. Just give us the game already.

Not really. It did ruin my enthusiasm for this forum somewhat, however. It made me realise how autistic, whiny and annoying a lot of people here are.

The internet makes that easy, brings that out of everyone due to the limited nature of communication online, as well as lack of repercussions lol. I have a general rule about the internet, which I break all the time sadly, "don't read comments". Much happier when I manage it.

I haven't been this excited in ages for an strategy game. Every dettail that they have revealed has shown a very impressive amount of care and understanding of game design. Of course, one always has pet peeves with how the game turns out and defies our expectations, but these have more to do with balancing and very defined issues, rather than with broad core game mechanics. Yes, I would like to see another representation of Russia, or more drastically different leaders, but the base of the game is sound and ripe for a rich, flavourful and deep strategic experience.

As for the debate here has been mostly good, but it has turned a little more heated the more time it has passed. I guess that: More popularity for the game = more people posting = more "preassure to perform" and consequently, more agressive replies / amount of noise. I fear that the social network-like features of the new forums will only agravate this issue, but I want to be optimistic, this have been a quite level headed, supportive community in the big scheme of things.

I dove into CiVI like I never did prerelease into another game... (not even Star Citizen! ;) ) - I watched parts of LPs, general videos and read previews. So I'm fairly certain what mechanics to expect. I managed to stay away from the sheer details of the game (which GP has which Bonus, which CS gives what, Wonder Movies, Sogno di Volare, reactions of leaders, the pure figures and adjacency bonusses of all the district...) and so I think I'm prepared and didn't spoil me the fun of having a new game. We'll see if this works as intended. Preordered (in June I think! :p ) and I seldom preorder...

Nope, still whishing i'm one week older which is rather dumb :hammer2:

I've played a lot and loved CiV(5) and 6 seems like an overall improvement on almost every aspect (except the diplomatic victory that was left out, hopefully for an expansion with new mechanics that really requires diplomacy rather than just amassing gold). I'll probably love it despite it's inevitable flaws for this very reason. I've pre-ordered the digital deluxe edition and i'm almost sure it will get me better cost/hours played ratio than most games i bought on sale for less than $10, but then, i'm a huge fan of TBS games and Civ in particular.

That being said, i only recently started to search for information on the game (no point being frantic 6 months before release) and didn't watch a lot of streams, just enough to get used to the graphic style and get some overview of the game, not enough to let the poor Prince AI bother me.

I failed hard, because I hyped very much for the game before realizing I won't be able to play it at all for few first MONTHS after release because of
a) Lack of money for PC upgrade allowing me to display civ at all (and all money is currently going for higher priority goals)
b) Lack of time, as the great eduational challenge is in front of me

:l

I do have a gnawing fear that the game just won't grab me like past iterations have. I am not the same person I was 6 years ago.
I plan to buy the game regardless.

Civ V was like that for me, but i still pre-ordered VI and intend to start playing as soon as i can - which because of real life (with kids) may not be the first few days, but this game is going to last for years so no worries.

The rollout from Firaxis was very good i think, but started a bit too early and was tainted by the leaks.
And I absolutely see how echo chambers (like this forum!) can spiral your expectations to the point where the real thing feels anticlimactic. Not the first time, nor the last. We just have to learn to handle hype.

The question I pose to you all, is perhaps had the leader/civ rollout not been spoiled maybe there'd be FAR more excitement. Had the multiple leader option reveal had not been so telegraphed maybe there'd be more enthusiasm.

Eh, the leaders are really just the window dressing, it's the gameplay that matters, and in that regard I am still just as intent on playing as soon as possible (just hope my parts arrive and I build my new comp by Thursday evening:D).

That being said, I think it's natural for people to lose some enthusiasm as they become more knowledgeable about the game - "familiarity breeds contempt" and all that. Previously, one's imagination could create crazy, ideal situations that were extremely unlikely, and for me that's half the fun of Civ games prerelease speculation.

As for the game I went from mildly sceptical to fully pumped by now. I have preordered long ago and can't wait for the release date.

Sorry you feel let down. Folks here can get carried away sometimes - it is the internet after all. But overall I keep coming back because most people on this forum are thoughtful and by and large mature. We're all human and have our bad and our good days, myself included. I just try not to get sucked in when someone goes negative for whatever reason. Enjoy Civ VI!

My enthusiasm is not at all ruined, quite on the contrary - doubled, tripled or even sextupled - it's Civ 6 after all, you know ;)
What is really tiring though, it's this interminable waiting, when apparently everyone is playing it on Youtube and Twitch, but you still can't. Arrrgghh...h.

Nope, I'm very much looking forward to next friday! And I've seen a lot of LPs, and enjoyed the first look videos and dev streams.

But what to do in the time until next friday? Probably a game of BE:RT or two. I just can't get back to Civ5 after seeing all the preview videos...

Until you get your hands on, it's impossible to tell how it's going to feel to you playing really. I've played games that looked awesome on Twitch, but were just not as much fun when you get up close and personal with them.

I don't think the marketing has impacted that much, given that Civ over the past few years has really been well developed and grown from it's base game, it's not really fair to judge the game on what Civs have been released or not as we all know that's easily fixed afterwards, particularly with the DLC model that they seem to favour for these things. (However you feel about DLC in general).

Roll on next Friday and let the next generation of Civ start racking up it's hours played!

I think after playing this game for 20 years I'm in safe territory to say that I'm going to love VI.
Pretty much all the leaders in V were on prozac. Their much more exuberant interpretations in VI -with their different agendas- are going to make this game way more interesting and immersive for me :D

I haven't actually followed all the news and debates until this week, so everything feels very fresh for me. I love the look of the game and I think I'll enjoy the changes made. Seems like they're also going back to a more micro-managing philosophy which can be both good and bad. I never particularly enjoyed doing the same thing fifty times in the late-stages of the game, but it seems they've taken that into consideration this time. While I won't pre-order the Exlusive Edition (too expensive) I will definitely pre-order the game for the added bonus.

I'm home on Friday (or I'll make myself home) anyway, so I'm good to go!

Those early acces streams and lets plays on youtubes are rather annoying. because those youtuber's waste their time to doing lets plays now rather then when the game comes out and playing on higher difficulties. So they could played 5 different civs allready insteed of zero.

It olso ruins the fun of me exploring the game

The youtube guys have different motivations than you and I. It would be insane for them to hold off when it boosts their channels I'm sure.

I have always tried to push back against overly ambitious expectations on the forum.

Contrary to some, I like the leaks. Leaks and spoilers don't ruin books, movies, or games for me. I especially liked that we had to work for the leader poster leak. That was fun.

I feel your pain, I might be in the same boat. It happened to me with Civ4 as well. I nearly built a whole new PC to run it, but I decided to be responsible instead and wait until I'm a little more established. I'll need to build a few more workers and get some farms going before spending so much on that entertainment district :(
