Hi,

I got CIV4 about when it was released and had a VERY VERY laggy game on my :
AMD 64 bit 3200+
Geforce 4 6600 with 128mb ram (i think)
1 GB Ram.

Now all of a sudden im just DYING to play CIV again - but before I rush out and but it, again, i wanna make sure that I wont have a similar experience as I did when it first came out = extremely laggy (unplayable) even with low detail setting.

So questions - did they fix this dramatically ??

Help asap - stores is closing soon and I want the game NOW :D

Ok I just bought it and hoped for the best.

Seems like they infact did improve the framrate alot. havent reached endgame yet though....

One thing though : The wonder movies. At first they were running smooth but I think it was after I changed the resolution from (1920x1200 to 1650x1050 - I have a 24" monitor) they started to play in low framerate. Anyway I can watch the movies again after ive build a wonder? Either in game or outside the game?

Cheers!

there are quite a few movies settings in the civilizationIV.ini
especially the movie background and all items with bik are worth looking at when you want to alter the movie behavior - In your case I'd try to set don't show movie background.
You can watch the movies outside the game only with RADTools installed and only without sound

Thanks for reply.

Where do I find this file?
Also in the manual it says that there's supposed to be a "Movies" menu under the "advanced" tab where I can watch movies....Its not there...??
And whats RADTools?

Thanks alot man - you're really nice at helping people out!

don't trust the manual - it was written well before the game was finalized it is even more off than the Civilopedia - which only for Beyond the Sword is somewhat okish.
the civilizationIV.ini is in
documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\<gamename>\
where <gamename> is either
Sid Meier's Civilization 4 OR Warlords OR Beyond the Sword depending on which you use.
the movies themselves reside in
...\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\Art\Movies
...\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Assets\Art\Movies
...\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Assets\Art\Movies
but as I said you need Rad Video Tools to view the bnk/bink files that contain them.
