I guess I'm going with the unofficial 4th option:

I didn't really "like" the leak because it took the fun and debate and surprise out of it... but I'm glad Firaxis did it because it muted the rage I'd feel at (once again) Italy being left off as a new Civ, especially in favor of Canada. Especially with Byzantines and Babylon being left out, too.

And yes, I'm a firm believer that the leak was intentional.

You know, I can't help but feel that the leak might have been intentional on Firaxis' part. That this act of espionage was really just a marketing trick in order to stir up hype

I think the leak was good for everyone involved and if Firaxis hadn't planned it they should have. Leak culture creates far more hype and interest than straight advertising. Certainly the way it leaked, with images of the three of the four most controversial leaders, I think lends credibility to the idea that Firaxis wanted to give fans more time to get used to these new ideas.

And yes, I'm a firm believer that the leak was intentional.

I hope you guys are wrong...but I think you are right.
And I get that. By leaking the roster they can gage the backlash to more controversial choices; and take on board free feedback which could be incorporated if necessary; while the whole time being able to swap X out for Y if they really have to. Consider that we got the images of Kupe and Eleanor before anything else; and yet Eleanor was the last revealed officially (for good reason imho).

I voted that I don't want leaks. I'd prefer the week by week surprise. But I think we will see things like this become par for the course.

I would prefer a leak similar to that Tamar poster. It keeps us busy searching for answers, and boy wasn't it exciting!

I dislike how this suspicious AssemblingTyphoon account blatantly uncover all the civ list.

At least, FXS, if any of you are the mastermind of that account, it's not fun to reveal everything in one go. Rather see another blurry posters (but this time, not the leaders - too easy - maybe images of their national dance / food / etc) or a hangman-style quiz of the most obscure thing from that civilization where you reveal an alphabet a week.

I am wondering the same thing myself.

Look at the hype and interest generated by the infamous leader poster leak for the base game. I'm not saying I think that was deliberate, but if not I wouldn't be surprised if they looked at the community's response (as well as the quite probably non-authorised leaks we had for R&F) and reasoned, "hey, this stuff gets leaked anyway, we might as well do it ourselves and see how the fans respond". But I think they gave away too much in this case. An inside leak that gave away clues would have been more fun.

And let's not kid ourselves, the only reason we got Tamar of Georgia (may she reign in memes for eternity) was because of the community's response to that poster.

It’s not a huge deal since you’ll still get the abilities as a surprise at least which is enough to get you excited for the reveals, but yeah of course I’d rather not know. I was still unspoiled until about halfway through the reveals this time though at least
