I'm just curious what difficulty level you like the most (short explanation would be a nice addition). I noticed that few such polls already exist but they are rather outdated.

I played prince, monarch and emperor. Emperor was a total mistake, monarch - too much non-compatible with my gameplay (also the jump from prince is rather big) and prince - maybe a bit too easy but still the best.

On prince I can play like I enjoy the most. I don't have to follow strict "strategy", I don't even have to specialize cities (I never liked this idea at all, my cities can focus on certain category, but are usually rather universal). And I'm not playing to "win". I'm only enjoying playing. So "winning" is not the goal.

I play on Prince as well :D. It doesn't require as much seriousness and micromanagement as higher levels, but you don't just blow right through all the AI's either like on Noble and below.

I never played on prince(maybe once). I jumped from noble to monarch actually.
Spoiler nothing :
Since my first prince gamepost on S&T forum where I got embarrased by mr.L.

I can play on Monarch with ease. I feel it's just like Noble.;)
Didn't try Emp and Imm, yet.

I am a Noble player myself as I just want a relaxing game. If I want some form of challenge, then I play Noble in K-Mod, which is like Prince/Monarch.

I said Noble. When I joined, I played on Warlord. After getting some help. I can now win on Noble small maps. Need some more work with larger maps.

I mostly play settler difficulty because I love roulette slots and the sound of a free worker or settler. Each time I hear those particular sounds, I feel pleased.

Sounds interesting :p, Link please? ;)

Nope, I can't... Too heavy to bear. :p

But if it's on the initialsave you're interested, I think you can still find it on the 2nd or 3rd page of S&T forum. The one entitled "worst gp farm".:)

I always had a hunch that it's you who makes weird poll choices...Tachy-pie :p

At one point I was able to beat Immortal, but for me it was too much like doing work to win at that level, so I dropped back to Monarch / Prince.

Monarch mostly, with a few mostly unsuccessful forays onto higher levels. Sometimes drop down to Prince / Noble either for a bit of relaxation or to try out self-imposed restrictions (eg no slavery, no metal units).

Monarch. Have played Emperor, lost and it wasn't close, one of those frustrating, makes-you-feel-like-a-total-newbie losses where an AI you kept praying would jump to pleased just DOW's before it'll happen. YOU WERE CAUTIOUS BEFORE +4 FOR TRADE RELATIONS, YOU SHOULD BE PLEASED NOW!11!! lol

I play Noble because it lets me play the way I want without getting my ass kicked. I never use slavery, never chop forests in the city limits, and basically stay as peaceful as possible until I can build modern armor and mechanized infantry, modern jets and stealth bombers, and kick everybody's asses. Unless I decide to build a space ship or a culture victory or whatever.

Anybody ever play the "always peace' option? I think I may do that next game.

Emperor.

If you look at a timeline of my difficulty level as described by the length of my arm (I loved those analogies in history class), I played:
Warlord (after opening my shiny new pre-ordered Vanilla CIV way back in the day) from my shoulder to my wrist,
Noble from my wrist to the start of my fingernail, and
a quick succession of Prince-Monarch-Emperor along the length of my fingernail, with only a few games at each level (only three finished at Emperor so far)

usually playing Monarch/rare Emperor... But right now have chance to win my 1st Deity/Huge/Mara game ever... thanks to this forum :)

My success rate on Noble is approximately 40%-50%. Not feeling confident yet about moving to Prince.

As the histogram is tilted towards higher difficulties it seems that the game has reached its old age :) Or is it because many experienced Civ IV players have experience with Civ I, II and III?

Noble. Only win about half of my games I play and as such it's a nice and challenging level for me; not so easy that I get bored but without it being too hard and thus becoming frustrating.

I would say it's probably having experience with previous versions of Civ, at least in my case. I started out 2 levels of difficulty below what I was playing on 3 when I started 4 to allow me to learn the new features without too much challenge. Then I scooted up quickly from there.

A side note: this previous experience helping has not proved out in V. I think that game is almost different enought that it shouldn't be in the same series.

Emperor or immortal.

I win 95% of my games on Monarch, 60% on emperor and maybe 20% on immortal. Deity is out of my league though.

Monarch to play for fun, Warlord to test while modding (I have to make it all the way to the end, no?)
