I have Conquests and Play the World. So yeah I think I'll get along with Native America
 
Designed for Conquests - patch 1.22. On the first page there's a link to the Faraxis' prehistoric graphics if you don't already have them (they shipped with the PtW disk but not with the Conquests disk).

If you can tell me what error you get then I can probably suggest the fix to the problem.

Other mods use these too so probably best to grab them all. On the first post there's a link directly to the file you need.
 
what if the asteroid never came? and the dinosaurs never went extinct? then, humans came on the scene and learned to capture, tame and use the dinosaurs. at first, for military and worker uses. then, as things became motorized, they were used for amusement (i.e. Jurassic Park) purpose. Then, you wouldn't have to mod the leaders or the advisors.

Seems a bit extreme to me (but then I did start the thread) - if you want to talk about something off the main page do you have to start a new thread then?

Anyway, I have some new graphics and a small change in the rules (nothing very significant).

For those that have played it, are there any glaring rules changes that need to be made?

I'd be especially keen if anybody has some city names - maybe sort of adopt a tribe schem? Claim one and choose the names of cities for it.
 
The post that bumped this thread was not entirely out of line. It contained subject matter relevant to the mod. If he has been bumping other threads with nonsensical nonesense, that would be different.

When i get caught up with my current project, i plan to play this mod some and see where i can help with improving it... if need be. (content relevant to the mod;) )
 
Good use of those already existing units, it's a good mod. Here are some recomdations (note: these might be really stuped ideas that I never would have thought of if you never asked for tech names, I won't be at all hurt if you hate them, I almost expect you to)

Mothering changed to migration
migration changed to marked paths
talking to celestial theory
storing food to food storage (subtle)
intoxication to pleasure drinks (intoxcation wouldn't be a luxury)
feathers to deinoychus (the deinoychus didn't have feathers)

Here are my attempts to rename dinosour names to new evelutionary things on that dinosour:

plateosaur should have something to do with the revelutionary long neck, I would recomend "neck extention" or something of the sort

pteradanon should be something like "early flying"

Ankleosaur should have something to do with the use of the defensive spikes, mabey "defensive spikes" or simply "early spikes"

Allasours are defonitly not fast, they were actaully relativly slow (mabey a 2), I might reccomend taking some movement point from the movement to the atack, for the tech name I might reccomend something having to do with the fact that they had strengthened neck and backs allowing for more and better head control (for biting), one of the reasons they are such good atackers, I might recomend something like "strong spines" or "strong backs"

For the Stegasour you might want to do something like "advanced spines" or "advanced defense" or something


For the Parasuar you might want to use "advanced communication" or "long range communication"

For the gallimimus I might reccomend intellegence because they were unsually intelegent among dinosours, part of the reason they could move so fast, for this reason I might reccomend treats all terain as roads and lowered movement.


The dinoychus should probably have a name having something to with the way it used it's tail for stability, I have no idea what the actuall name should be

Still thinking about triceritops, mabey something like "facial sheilding" or "facial spines"

The spinosaur was a HUGE preditor so mabey something like "large preditors"

still think about the T-Rex...

I have no idea what a torosaur is, I guess I should google it later

the quetzalquatles should be like "advanced flying" or something of the sort (or if anyone can thing of a more creative name)


To get a better idea of how the game plays without rushing to get contact by the proper date I tried turning back the ending date, it seems to improve the game and gives you time to try to defeat other civs.

I like the civ names and I think those should be kept.

I'm going to do some more looking and see what else I can come up with, I hope at least some of these are usefull...

the bump wasn't so bad, i mean daufoi did offer some suggestions and it was relevant.
not just a "great job" on a two year old creation...

@npbnpb - there's some good ideas there.

I was thinking about the length of the game myself - it is short. The idea was that each turn would be 1 million years and it would play the 186 million years that dinosaurs were about. I also arranged for there to be two plagues at about the times of the two minor extinction events.

That way of doing it doesn't allow for much in the way of flexibility, so maybe it's better to just change it to something else entirely. Maybe just a countdown marker - starts at 250 and counts down to 0 (the end). Then the game can be as long as appropriate.

To your mind is 250 turns better? I think somewhere between 225 to 250 should be ok, maybe heading towards the lower value otherwise I think it may become a bit too easy.


On the tech names, I like some some of the suggestions. I will change quite a few of them as you suggest.

  • I've always kindof liked the tech 'Intoxication' - just seemed a funny name.
  • For the large predator how about 'Predatory gargantuism' to get the spinosaur.
  • For the Plateosaur I was thinking of something like 'Deception' to account for the hidden nationality.
  • The reason for using the name 'Feathers' is that the Deinochys unit has a few feathers on top of its head.

I can make the Allosaur a bit slower, but part of the reason for its speed is to provide some better balance on the units (and because it probably was faster than the T-Rex).

I'll see if I can't get together another release in time for the w/e.
 
250 sounds good, I love predatory gargantuism, although mabey you should use that for T-Rex and you could either use a less strong version of preditory gargantuism or you could use something totaly different such as "frontal limb use", because the spinasour was the first dinosaur to really use it's front limbs, There is aplosulutley no way to know if the deinochys had feathers on it's head, so that is purely speculation, I think you should build the feathers idea and use a better word, or try for something along the lines of balancing tail, I'm going to do a bit more research on city names and such but I don't have enough stough yet for it to be worth posting, you also should consider changing the resource pictures to something in the resources are library
 
Thanks for all the pointers - I'll take a proper look at them tomorrow.

I hadn't thought of 'borrowing' any of the Warhammer stuff - just finished a PbEM move on that and as you say, there has to be some stuff to use.

The thing that I really need to do is to get the popheads replaced with dinos and the leaders too. I think just some static pix will be fine. For the popheads they can all be the same and I'll just use mood badges.

With that and some decent city names I think we can move out of beta.
 
I agree, If I had a real maya renderer I could make you a dino with maya, but sadly I don't and it would have an anoying overlay that ruins the image, if there is anyone reading this post that could make good leaderheads, it would be great if they tried.
 
What if we just got pictures of the net?
 
I took a T-rex picture and moded it with all sorts of skin colour. It is meant to be used for the leaderheads, along with doing the same thing with a raptor picture. I'm looking for feedback, if it's posotive I'll post them as seperate images so they can be used.
