Diplomatic victory but would have lost

Trying to get back into Civ and having some luck at Emperor level but the last few victories thanks to the UN have felt kind of hollow. This last one I surely would have lost the game. I was way ahead in score but borderline in tech and way behind in military power, I was scratching my head how to win until I just strangely won the UN vote. My late game play is really poor, once I've smashed a few civs I'll be left with 2 more that are way ahead in strength and I'm unable to out-tech them.

Save is from just before diplo-victory. Just played a pangea game on Immortal and got 6 cities up but was hopelessly out-teched to the point of being left out of the tech trading. Demoralising loss!

Welcome back!
Being hoplessly outteched can be demoralizing, yes.

But nothing beats the feeling of crushing technologically superior AIs with overwhelmning numbers of cannons and rifles.

Thanks for the reply krikay!

This game I've attached now (Immortal) is going much better, still not sure how to win it but it certainly won't be diplo this time. Continent was even split between hindus and buddhists but my fellow hindus aren't even very friendly. Feels very strange game for Immortal, some of the civs don't seem to be teching at all hardly.

Well, if I were playing at a level where AI get archery for free and most other things at half price, I would not bother winning a diplo victory. You have to rig the whole diplomacy stuff at these levels anyway.

Also you mention being way ahead in score, so you probably could just have peacefully survive and simply win like that.
