Direct2Drive fully merging into GameFly and purchases might not transfer.

A while ago Direct2Drive was purchased from IGN by GameFly and is now going to be fully incorporated into GameFly. However, your D2D purchases are not guaranteed to be transfered.

At the beginning of next year, we'll migrate Direct2Drive services to GameFly. We'll take care of everything for you - transferring your account and purchase history to GameFly so you can pick up right where you left off (you'll just need to reset your password for security). If you already have a GameFly account, we'll combine the two.

There are a couple things you can do now to ensure a smooth transition:

Download your favorite game purchases from Direct2Drive. We plan to have as many game files as possible available on GameFly. Just to be sure, please download your old game files before the transition.

Download all of your non-game files (like Prima Guides). These will not be supported by GameFly after the transition.

Once transferred, you'll be able to access your account with one login across GameFly's entire suite of integrated services: The GameFly Client, Web site, and Mobile App.

I am so glad I never bought anything on D2D. Also it will require the use of (yet another) client, leaving GamersGate and GoG as the only two ones that I know of that don't have a client.

Just wait when EA buy everyone of them. I think Steam is only one what could surive alone, its old (First?), lots of veterans are using it and nearly 1 mill Facebook speaks volume too.

EA already has its own service, Origin. GameStop bought Impulse a while ago but you got to keep your games. Stema is way too much of a cash cow and is actually part of their own games that they aren't going to give it up, and I don't know if Paradox would want to let go of GamersGate as they don't exactly make the most profitable games.

As far I know they're expanding, 3 publishers joined just couple month ago, thats the thing, IF EA wants to be the best, so anything can happen. I think theres a price even for Steam.

Yes, GamersGate is its own company, I thought it was still somewhat owned by Paradox but I don't know for sure.

I'm probably irritated, but I haven't bought anything from them in many years. If it was consoles, I'd say who still has their favorite NES carts? Pretty funny if all the games end up on GOG anyways.

In a way, a streaming game service makes more sense than paying for titles (for the life of the service). That way you don't really lose. Problem is that most publishers (excepting MMOs) aren't structured that way. They're more structured like old school mass media sales. But maybe a streaming subscription will eventually be the norm?

Its already possible to transfer games from Steam to Origin. Just take my word Origin is going to be the one. You say the F-word in SWTOR's forum, your origin account is banned, or small fee you need to pay, for example.

The solution is simple, don't use Origin. It hasn't been hard for me not to use Green Man Gaming because of their ridiculous DRM, or Direct2Drive because it was owned by IGN (and since it is now completely converted to GameFly that may have been a very good choice), and it hasn't been the least bit difficult to not use Impulse now that it is owned by Gamestop.

I got all my games before the switch, using Comrade. I agree that IGN's DRM was a bit crazy with the 5-install limit, especially when some games never installed completely (5 installs = 5 plays for me) and you had to wait for a support email to get a new serial code to renew the 5-install limit.

I'm mostly irritated that anime/movies that were purchased through D2D were not transferred, though that decision was made about 2 years ago.

Comrade seems friendly in that it's somewhat like Steam, and auto-recognizes your games even if they are Steam-installed. Not saying I'm switching, just noting it.

That's what I'm doing. I don't plan on supporting or using Origin, even at the expense of missing out on ME3.
