Disable Event system!

I was planning to add this to the tuning threads to start tweaking events, as I agree that some of the events are poor (I personally really hate the one that gives a 75% chance to lose 250 GAP, it comes so early in the game it basically wrecks your chance at a GA early on).

Does anyone have a list of the core events so we could go through them and do a review pass?

Well I guess it's up to the Emperor-Disciple of the Church of the Holy DLL! :D

That's a lot of titles, your Modjesty

The core events are in: C:\Users\Your Username duh :p\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\(1) Community Patch\Modules\Events

Although, I think events are fine. They come off surprising sometimes/always and it adds a lot more flavor and provokes more thinking (at least in concept and maybe in game too) as to how you will manage now with the aftermath (I know civilization is pretty ahistorical and not meant to be a simulator but we're playing a history flavored game and flavor is good :scan:) No need for balance. But welcome to start a thread anyway.

EDIT: I know Gazebo is enjoying his time right now (congrats on the special chapter :D ) but I've wondered as to how AI chooses on events.

Events are fine, but as mentioned before, there are so few of them available early-game that you just end up with an iceage and 5 corruption-events running simultaneous, and while that might be fun once or twice, having it every game just feels weak.

well anyway im going to deactivate all of them for next game. i just hope for its ability to deactivate them how im reading this thread im worried about it. at least untill point someone makes them more interesting and less iritating.

If you want to be sure, delete the Events folders in both CP and CBO.

Apparently no one appreciates our 81+ Events from Community Events. oh well

I forgot to enable events on my last game (8-18) in Really Adv Setup and not any events have occured.
Then, I believe it's possible to play without them.
I restart the game to have them, even if it's ennoying sometime because many events are positive (Sci/food bonus, free GP, free buildings...) That is called balanced. Doesn't it?
Also, the life of all nations is not a long flat story of progress. It comes with disasters like earthquakes, fire, floodings and so.
The feature adds a taste of natural random. All the opponents ge it. All is fair to me.

for me also. and is also fair put em off. at least in few first games where i still recognize myself as newbie and playing mostly warmonger style, its little to much for handle along with non stop maintain your pestilenced, burned, flooded, crushed, raided and so on land.

some answers to questions:

but I've wondered as to how AI chooses on events.
Events are given flavor values. The AI chooses based on its flavor preferences, if there is a tie (or no flavors set) then it chooses randomly. So it can differentiate between "this one gives more food" and "this one gives more culture", but it won't be able to make meta-strategy decisions. Does that explain it?

Would those work with base Community Patch or do they require CBP/CBO?
They require full Vox Pop (CBO) install. References to CBO-only buildings, More Lux luxuries and CSD units/buildings. Plus the magnitude of many effects might not make sense outside CBO.

Mhmm... actually let's change that. I'll make SQL references to exclude those event choices. Although, it may take a long time. It might change the perspective on how people view events.

Yup, loud and clear.

EDIT: Boo!! I click on the devil icon, how can it be edited out?

EDIT: Thanks hokath for the tip

I appreciate it! I like it a lot, even though it almost screwed me in my Mayan game  (got locked into the unique event giving me 6 turns of total anarchy...the same turn International Games got passed and I was approaching a cultural victory).

In the edit mode click "Go Advanced" down in the bottom right and then untick it from the list of emotes

Nasty.
How did you feel about the balance on that choice if it hadn't come around at such a critical time?

That particular choice was: WLTKD in all Cities, however you begin the first half of this time in Anarchy. Unhappiness thresholds for Illiteracy and Poverty are permenantly reduced by 10%.

First of all, noticing there's a typo there (straight from the XML). Anyways, I was trying to avoid it as much as I could (I was a couple turns from Atomic Era when it struck, meaning I could have selected the +20% faith from Temples instead...ugh).

First off, to be remotely worthwhile you would need a very wide empire I would think, to make best use of the threshold reductions. WLTKD in all cities but half of that time to spend in anarchy is a steep price to pay, especially this late in the game. Even if there's nothing important/critical at the moment, 6 turns of total anarchy is no joke. Happiness plummets, yields are nonexistant, literally nothing can get produced for 6 turns, empire wide. Especially since you can't delay or choose the turn which to start your anarchy, you could very well get stuck at a terrible time like a world project, wonder, middle of an important war, etc.

WLTKD isn't that difficult to achieve at this stage by comparison, and the threshold reductions would be more 'worth it' if they came earlier in the game I would think. This would have felt better if I had an option to do absolutely nothing if I wanted, as it was it honestly felt like a 'bad' event like a blight.
