Disabling colonies?

I think colonies are a neat idea, but they were poorly implemented and almost never useful, especially not for the AI, so I was wondering if it was possible to mod them out or at least prevent the AI from ever making them. I know I could select "Disable Vassal States" in the options, but I want to keep regular vassals.

If you don't want it, disable it. (recommended because as you said, it's poorly implemented. And that goes for any kind of vassal functionality)

But can I disable colonies without disabling regular vassals? Regular vassals definitely have their problems, but I don't think they're completely broken like colonies, so I don't want to disable them.

Without modifications to the SDK, most likely no.
