Disabling the City Building Popup

This is my first Civ game to play and I am definitely addicted. I have tried to search for the answer to this question but am not sure I am wording it properly.. what I want to do is disable the popup window that appears everytime one of your cities completes the last thing you told it to build. When I am in the middle of a battle I find it annoying to keep choosing things for my cities to build when I'd rather not build anything for a few turns. Is there a way to do this? I can't even find a way to escape out of the city building popup screen and just build Nothing.

Thanks to anyone who can answer!

After the pop-up, if you double-click to go into the city, then hit enter to get out, I think it causes the city to not build anything. I don't know if that's intentional or not. But wouldn't you rather have something in que instead of building nothing?

I think this is annoying too, what needs to happen is Firaxis needs to add the build last option that was in Civ III in their next patch.

before you reseaerch drama and library or economics you cant build wealth or research or culture, so there are a very few times that i have myself actually wanted to build nothing. and yes, the "you have completed bank, now what" message is really lame. its a shame the production automation sucks so much balls or id just use that forever

That's there - just alt-left-click in the city screen to build a unit indefinitely. This will be indicated by an asterisk next to its name in the city build queue on the bottom left of the screen.

Ooh thanks for that tip. I had been looking for something just like that.

You should never build nothing (or some random thing you quickly choose to exit the screen). Every choice you make should be meaningful in advancing your civilization. You will need every hammer you earn in the later difficulties.
