discussion: only run for 1 position?

On the subject of term limits, this reminds me of a law passed im my home state of Missouri. A vote of Missouri citizens a few year ago passed a term limits law. This election year, those limits will take effect for all those who where in office when passed. 100 of the 150 Representives in the House will not be able to run for re-election. This leaves a House of Reps. full of new representitves.

This allows room for new people, new ideas. However, nobody will really know what to do, and when they figure what's going on, they have to leave.

we wont be able to finish the ammendment before the election is over

would you write an official-sounding ammendment-proposal for the split-version? we could then put this up for vote on monday.

So no one liked the idea of making term limits of 1 to 2 months for any government position in a game? If the big names had to keep changing jobs every one or two months, don't you think positions would open up? Or are we afraid to try this? I think it would solve a lot of the problems mentioned here and cut down on future problems. No more ball-hogging. Keep the people rotating and learn who the candidates are. Learn to vote wisely based on short histories.
I do actually like the idea of implementing term limits. I think it would make the government a lot less static and perhaps help to keep the long serving players interested by making them look at a greater variety of aspects of the game, as well as making it easier for newer players to get into government. All of which are of course good things :)

well, thought of it the other way round:
what harm can it do to restrict it on 3 if only 2 leaders would have been effected by it till now?

Term limits won't necessarily open up positons for the "little" guys. We may well end up with the same government officials only in different spots.

Unless we went to 1 month term limits in a game....

I don't think having a restricted amount of time in one poistion will help any(I'll use falcon & myself as an example):

Falcon is a good military leader that's why he's been their for 3 terms. Doesn't seem stupid to get rid of someone who is very good at their job who might get replaced by someone who sucks at it.

Also they should also be made to go up the COC... I was Science Chat rep and Science Deputy before I was leader. I took it step by step intill I was at the top of the science department.

Term 1:
Science Chat rep
Term 2:
Science Deputy
Term 3:
Science Leader
Term 4:
Science Leader

I think people should be able to run for two high level positions.

Shaitan: could we concentrate now on the "run for 2" ammendment? we can then discuss the "run for only n-turns" ammendment later. we will need the first one quick for the next elections!

Thanks for the support Cyc, but this is the opposite of what I was saying (I can sound confused I'll grant you). I was saying council members should only get 1 only, but citizens ans Governors get to accept 2 nominations (obviously I have an angle here!!)

Almightyjosh. :D I in no way meant for you to take me literally. I was being totally facetious or feces-ous. You know, full of the old dark stuff. I was making a joke! Sorry it didn't go over very well. But thanks for letting me know what you think of my sense of humor. BTW, I didn't see your post yesterday when I posted.

Sure. Unfortunately I'm squooshed for time today. If somebody else could write up the proposal and post it (actually, I think I already did this somewhere back in the thread) today that would be great. Otherwise I'll do it tomorrow morning.

Looking back over the thread to see what I had written previously (so I could write up the proposal) I found that I had already written up a proposal. It is here. It was aparently forgotten when we began discussing term limits. This is complete. All it needs is an Executive Leader to initiate the Council Vote.
