DisNES II "A Twist of Fate"

Shouldn't it be a penalty for being a slacker? :p

Captain Ramayana looked around at the troops covering around him. Explosions could be heard clearly as shells hit the enemy stronghold a bare two hundred meters away. On every face he could see determination and nervous anticipation. Soon they would storm the enemy position and as always such was a daunting prospect. Made easier of course with the help of the coastal bombardment that had been going on since dawn, but a daunting task none the less.

Drawing his sword he looked around at his troops. Well disciplined they all stopped their small-talk as they noticed their officer looking at them and directed their attention toward him.

Ramayana cleared his throat and had it not been for the explosions in the background and the faint screams of the wounded and dying all would have been silent.

"Soldiers of Sinhala. You are the Claws of the Tiger! You are the Roar of the Lion! We are here today for the glory and the future of our people. Over there is the enemy. A weak enemy and weaker even thanks to our glorious navy aiding us on this day of battle. Your king and the Gods are watching us today, raining down their blessing upon us, just as they rain down fire and despair on our foes. Today, we will see battle. Some of us will not return home. Such is always the lot of soldiers, but whether we live or die we will do so with honor and glory. Those who fall will be mourned, but it will be a mourning colored by honor and glory. Those who fall will be known as heroes of Sinhala. Those who live will be revered as living heroes and your songs and stories will be repeated throughout the land.
Regardless of what happens we WILL be victorious! Soldiers of Sinhala! Prepare yourselves! For Sinhala and glory!"

"For Sinhala and glory!" The cry was repeated from a hundred throats as every soldier stood a little taller and a little straighter.

Looking around in approval Ramayana smiled. With soldiers such as these none could stand in their way. "Fix bayonets! Prepare to advance! Raise the banner."

With the raising of the banner the commanders of the ships would know to stop their bombardment and, indeed, after two minutes no more shots could be heard.

Getting ready behind the small rise in the land they were covering behind Ramayana raised his hand. "Soldiers! Advance, quick step!"

A hundred soldiers got up and started the dreaded advance. There would be no cover for the last part, but every man was willing to do his. Advancing in a line, 2 deep, the soldiers moved over the crest and started forward. The first 100 meters went without incident as the opposing troops were still covering and recovering their senses. With 80 meters to go the first shots rang out. Most missed, but a few found their mark dropping Sinhalese soldiers.

As the distance still grew less Ramayana knew it was time. Raising his sword he ordered the charge. A wall of soldiers rushed forward. More and more shots rang out, but most still missed as the enemy troops were still slightly shell-shocked and know were hurrying their shots in a panic. The first Sinhalese troops reached the strongpoint, firing off a single shot to take out an enemy or at least force them to cover and then swarmed the place resorting to bayonets and knives.

After less than 10 minutes it was all over. The enemy garrison had little fight left in them and quickly surrendered. The cost had been cheap. 8 Sinhalese troops had been killed and they had taken an enemy stronghold. The enemy had lost about 120 troops, including dead and captured. It had been easy, but as they advanced inland it would be harder with no preliminary bombardment from the ships.

Incidentally, Harleqin, are you attacking Calicut?

Most likley, Madras is another possobility. See that you do not damage Bangalore or I will come down there and crush you.

Surely you have better things to do, silver. ;) I could kill him for you anyway, the Sinhalese are a bit of a nuisance. :p

What have we ever done to the Ottomans? ;) :p

I need a map. Which one is Bangalore?

Madras, Calicut, Gujarat, White Malay.... one of those, but I'm not saying which :p

Fortune favors the bold though and, as my team says: He who dares, wins!

No comments :mischief:

From: Sinhala
To: Ottoman Empire

Perhaps you would be interested in a treaty of Non-Agression. It would benefit both our nations and would also be of value if we run into territorial disputes over colonies at a later time.

Perhaps we would. :p

Weather I invaded someone or not is unbeknowst to even me. It depends on the actions of a certain player...not you mind it.

Indeed, it is all up to SwissEmpire. If he launches a bizzare, demented, logistically and geographically impossible invasion of Ireland (and you know he would ;) ), France will be free to move against the HRE!

Good luck with that. :p What was that line in NES2 III... succeeding in invading Germany only to lose Hungary, or some such...
