How about adding/changing some wonders so that they function as a unique district giving special bonuses. How about the Great Library being a unique campus districts giving the same bonuses as it does now + the usual campus + library yields. Maybe have different/no adjacency bonus though. Later you can put a university and a research lab inside the GL, too. This could work for many other wonders as well.
Quite some wonders come to my mind that could function as districts. Göbekli Tepe could make a nice Holy Site, the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul could be a commercial hub giving bonus on trade routes from that city, Krak des Chevaliers could be a unique encampment and so on.
Of course, having a wonder functioning as a district would prevent that city to build the normal version of this district and the other way around: a city with the GL would not be able to build a normal campus any more. And district wonders would not count towards the district cap.

It's interesting to relate the wonders to districts, but I was thinking more on building the wonders inside districts and replacing one of the buildings. For example you could build the great library inside the campus district and it will replace the library or for the great lighthouse replacing the lighthouse in the harbour district.
That would make more sense since I've never seen a city with two lighthouses.

Not sure if this is doable but at least it would reduce the amount of real estate you have to "waste" on wonders.

Perhaps a combination of the two mechanics would be the way to go? Some wonders need their own tile while others can be built in districts?

Overall, I'm not too happy with VI's approach to "landscaping". We still have the same basic rules as in V when it comes to cities and their "reach" (up to three tiles out can be worked, borders will eventually stretch to four tiles away), but we have way more tiles that need to be sacrificed for districts and wonders. And while wonders aren't mandatory to build a decent empire, districts are pretty much a must.

yeh i like the idea of building wonders in districts, but keep their 'must be built adjacent to... ' rule.
