Divine Intervention II

Good luck and get well soon TFA. Cheers.

Waking from a Fever-filled dream, Hannibal rolled from his bed to a cool morning. Things had changed. He knew it - they always did. Stepping from the tent he had in his War Camp, he wiped his eyes as his Advisors rushed to greet him.

"Sir! The ancient god of Sumeria has risen a giant chain of mountains seperating our glorious land from these Sumerian heathens! In addition, he has manifested as a mortal warrior, and is marching with an elite group of soldiers to attack us now!"

Hannibal sighed, and ordered his servants to arm and armor him. In matter of hours, the two forces had met, and the Mountain God stared down at Hannibal.

I will not tolerate this desecration any longer. came the booming voice of the God, as hundred of Vultures gripped deadly axes behind him.

"Who are you? Why do you waste my time?"

Too long, the blood of my people has stained the soil of Sumer.

Hannibal spit on the ground and turned his back. The God roared, and raised his axe, as macemen flooded behind Hannibal to protect him. Kicking one aside and shouldering another, he heaved his axe and cut three soldiers down. Two more cleaves and the path to the leader was clear, despite his guard's best effort. Running up on Hannibal, the God raised his axe...

...and with a quick spin and a thrust, Hannibal's longsword pierced the chest. The axe would waver, and then clatter to the ground as the entire field of battle watched in silence.

...W-what?

"Sleep now. Your time has come and passed. Glory be to Rolo," Hannibal whispered, and then ripped the blade clean, as the God staggered back. "I have lived as long as your people and now THEIR time has come. I am an immortal, with a Divine Wind at my back, and you are defeated."

And as the god fell, Hannibal returned to his task, to lead his people.

Spoiler :

We learned that in the sole mountain pass between Carthage and Sumer, the Mountain God had formed a fortress guarded by powerful defenders. Mao started a movement in the Runner's Palace to attempt to stop the war, but our people now have enough strength that we control the majority vote. Our faith is strong.

D2-APFail.jpg

The great warrior Asche was instrumental in taking out the fort, with the help of several new seige engines, and he was promoted to our Great General of all the Carthaginian forces.

Inspired by the difficulty of the fort, our Generals want us to build some, too.

D5-DefenseQuest.jpg

The war is going well. We are pushing through to rescue a Holy Bear, seperated by the blasphemous Sumerians. Kish falls.

D6-Kishfalls.jpg

The glorious intellectuals of the world are right when they call me Glorious. The clatter of gunfire shall soon be heard - we have mastered gunpowder!

D7-GreatestCiv.jpg

The sumerians are not happy with our occupation.

D8-Revolt.jpg

Our knights rush forward to scout the last city, and in a quick skirmish the knights defeat a legion of siege engines and longbowmen. The sack shall be swift with Asche's troops not far behind. We shall rescue Dresden!

But Hannibal sleeps...

Damn it, now i must be here refressing the forum every 5 minutes...

Got it.

Time to be god!

While other gods were busy with torturing and slavering a far lesser god called Maaximillus, god of peace and culture was given the duty to use his divine powers upon this world. When I arrived I was shocked. On every contient there was wars and death and no one cared about the culture as it seemed that they cared only about the numbers of their troops. I wanted to stop this madness but I could not ever force people to do something, even if it would be for good purpose like peace. I saw that my duty was to end theese wars by showwing them that with peace you can achieve more. Thoose who believed in peace and culture were rewarded. But thoose who did nothing but massed armies to slave their neightbours were punished indeed. Soon they would see Jungles swarming across their lands and their roads would be destroyed by floods. I felt sympaty for Sumerian people who were attacked for a no good reason. Thats why I created them a new land that was a paradise. There would be nothing that would remaind them of war. If zulus and carthagians would understand the value of peace and would turn pacifist they would get to paradise also. To help carthagians understand peace, I sent my pupil Shasha to guide them into better future. But indeed it was the religions aspect of carthagians that saved them from same that happened to zulus.

And the mortal that enters paradise without my permission will indeed suffer an unwanted fate.

The sleep was coming more and more - first, it had been thousands. Then, it had been hundreds. Now, it seemed like it was almost every century that the gods acted drastically. What was this world coming to?

Hannibal awoke, coughing amidst the humid air. Humid? Moving out of the Royal Palace to which he had returned's balcony, he stared out across the jungle that started directly where his walls ended. Damn the gods. Who was this!?

"Sir!" one of his advisors yelled, yelling from the ground. "A prophet speaks, from atop Mount Runner!"

"A prophet of the Runner!?" Hannibal questioned, becoming more alert of the prospect.

"No, sir, of a new god - a god of peace, by the Name of Maximillion!"

"What are his words?"

"He says the fighting must stop - that he has created a new land for the Sumerians to prosper, and blessed those who were peaceful, while he has scourged those who create violence. Jungles have sprang up and there have been roads washed away by floods! He says he comes to lead us to a new age of peace and prosperity!"

A long silence ensued, in which Hannibal pondered. Had the violence been unnecessary? Had lives been lost where lives needn't be lost? This was the second god to protest his war with Sumer, and it seemed increasingly likely that he was losing favor.

"Sir?"

"Kill him."

Spoiler :

Shasha was taken to the very peak of Mount Runner, and then sacrificed to the Runner in a ritual.

Meanwhile, in a stunning display of courage and skill, the minor noble known as Lord Dante proceeded to kill all the defenders and cature a Sumerian city with only the aide of his small army. He was granted full Knighthood, and given the Kingdom of Kish to call his own.

D2-Knight.jpg

A temple to Hannibal, our God-King, was erected. We call it "Angkor Wat", which is Ancient Carthaginian. The Spinal Minerat, a Memorial to the Sumerian Mountain God, is erected.

D3-Wat.jpg

In the wake of Maximillian's accusations, Hannibal forces us to build a magnificent palace that no other place could rival in culture.

D4-Versaill.jpg

...and simultaineously encourages our citizens to think freely - as long as they agree with him, of course.

D5-Liberalism.jpg

A scientific boon is had and great advances in Naval Warfare result. A good thing, too - our Lord Hannibal has informed us that this "Paradise" land of the Sumerians must be found, sacked, burned, and forsaken. He was quite clear on these terms.

The city of Eridu falls to the might of Asche, and his Muskets-bearing army.

D6-EriduFalls.jpg

D8-Musket.jpg

A great man is born, claiming to be a Prophet of Rolorunnerism, claiming a great event in the future, proclaiming Asche to be the son of Rolo himself. Still alive all these years, Hannibal acknowledges this may be true, as he is the only one after years and years other than him (and the other, lesser God-Kings) that appears to have Immortality.

D7-Prophet.jpg

But disaster strikes in the Seige of Lagash.

D10-AscheCaptures.jpg

Although Asche captured the city, it appeared that perhaps the second strongest warrior in all of Carthage was no Immortal. Slain by elephant troops in a bid to protect the Siege Weaponry, he will forever be remembered as a Hero. Especially since he was instrumental in the Quest given to us by Lord Dresden. It was he who captured the city to open up the Path for his holiness' Ursine Manifestation.

Who has finally, at long last, come home.

Ok, I have to emphasize how much of a challenge it was to get that Bear back to my cultural borders. He's SLOW, and not only can he not enter cultural barriers, but he also cannot enter ANY terrain improvement except for roads, nor any tile with a special resource - even an unimproved one. But goddamnit, I did it, and it helped that one knight managed to defeat 1 Longbowmen, 2 Archers, 1 Catapult, and 1 Vulture in the Span of about 3 turns, mostly on defense, the last kill being an Archer. It was ambused several times and I ended up sacking Lagrash because Mao seriously PARKED a Elephant Troop in the middle of a one-square pass that was squashed between a Corn resource (which the bear cannot enter) and the borders of Lagrash. He just sat it there and did nothing with it.

Either way Dresden, I applaud you on that quest - I enjoyed it very much and I'm quite proud I got it done :D

Got it. Time to reward Hannibal for his righteous sacrifice.

Edit: I'm a ninja god as well apparently :ninja:

The sacrifice of the false prophet has greatly pleased The Runner. To replace the loss, two prophets of Rolorunnerism appear from northern peaks to spread the word of the true gods. His city is also given mastery over the sea, with each tile producing extra hammers, commerce, and food. The state of the Island of Gold displeases him however. To aid in this quest, a great fleet has risen from the ocean to bring the cities of Hannibal the Glorious to this heathen land. To insure it remains free of heathen, a spy has been placed. Beware though. If this magnificent gift isn't colonized by the next waking, the opportunity will be lost forever and the people of Carthage will suffer immensely. Additionally, the progress of the other land across the ocean has aroused the wrath of the Runner God. He declares a great gash of water to rent the land in two.

I'm glad you enjoyed the quest. It was a little harder than I intended since you couldn't use a boat, but it seems to have worked out. :goodjob:

This looks to be a busy turn god-wise so your rewards may wind up delayed a little bit, but they will come whenever I get the chance. And it looks like I may need to teach Chairman Mao a thing or two about meddling in godly affairs as well...

With the death of the Mountain Diety the last of his power drained from the land. All across the continent mountains fell leaving pitiful hills where greatness once towered. In some regions the fall of the mountains resulted in great wealths of resources being exposed. In other regions however the the result was much more catastrophic. The ancient peak near Ashchington was the only solid piece of land holding the peninsula afloat. As it collapsed so did the peninsula, crashing into the sea with horrible force. Waves spread out in all directions, the strongest of which headed towards Mount Runner. A Tsunami larger than any recorded in history crashed into the city, permanently drowning the land around it, destroying buildings and killing thousands. To the East the waves crashed into the western shores of Zululand causing similar damage to two of their cities.

Near the city of Uruk a small tributary of the great river running through Uruk swelled more than would have been expected from the ripples of the tsunami. The waves lapped up onto the site of recent battles swallowing up a piece of dried blood and carrying it out to the ocean.

Check out the save before you play it, if this is too extreme fell free not to use this addition.

As long as it fits my rules, I'll play it. As far as things go I think I've been the recipient of mostly good interventions - this is the sort of thing I've been expecting for a while.

We'll see how this affects the denizens of the world.

(Got it. >=D )
