Yes, that's not quite Modern Era yet, but it'll come around in a few turns - very likely before 1500

I think Marathon actually IMPROVES your tech rate
If I played on that particular map on Marathon, for instance, I could have captured all those cities a lot faster - resulting in more beakers earlier on.
I'll try a marathon game trying to go for a fast Modern Era. I'm leaving tomorrow, though, so it'll take a while.

Well, in retrospect, I have my doubts about it - it's quite hard to expand when the amount of hammers available is exactly 1 : the only in your city tile <.<.
The barb train is choo-chooing too : Mansa and Lincoln got mauled, and I got my iron hooked up just in time - a barb axe popped up a few turns later.
My traits (expansive, creative) really help, though.
I won't finish this game soon : I'm leaving for two weeks tomorrow.

Turn 799-Ragnar and Charlie(his vassal) DoW Mansa. I join in.


The Malinese War (I get Ragnar and Charlie to quit eventually because I'm greedy and want all that land to myself)-


Turn 804- Niani is captured.

Turn 806- I get the Pentagon! I also have West Piont and the Heroic Epic in my capital with a barracks and Theocracy, plus a GG settled.

Almighty Z appeared to Sam in a dream, telling him of a new goal. He would be rewarded if he could vasalize not just Lincoln, but all in the world. Any vasal Sam got would gain him a reward.
