DLC 5 General Discussion Thread

My bet is that one of the Firaxians we have seen on the livestreams has been promoted into the position.

Other than Ed and Pete haven't they all been programmers and the like? I would be surprised if someone from that side of things was moved into a community role, surely they wouldn't want to "waste" (figuratively speaking) someone with those kinds of skills in a job where they weren't using them.

Hmm, I know this is less General Discussion than back to Anticipating, but I'm still doing that, since the DLC and accompanying patch weren't released for mac yet. The depots haven't been updated for many days. Does anyone have a good explanation besides Aspyr waiting for Firaxis and their hot fix?

I think the most basic explanation would be that they still can't get xplatform to work, and Firaxis is making fixes for that, not for any of the general complaints for the patch. I'm hoping they'll add a few other general fixes, but who knows.

I suspect this is correct. They are probably internally testing the Mac and Linux versions, so we aren't seeing updates for the qa builds on Steam (which are for testing by a larger number of people, presumably working for 2K). It seems like they are trying to get cross-platform multiplayer out for real this time, come hell or high water, so the time table is dragging out due to hell or high water.

Guess what! AspyrWoo posted this on Steam:

"Hey everyone, status update on the Summer 2017 Patch for Mac/Linux:

It is with huge regret and sad faces that we, again, have to delay the release of cross-platform multiplayer.

We are moving forward with the launch of the Summer 2017 Update for Mac and Linux, which will offer all of the available content as the Windows update. After thorough investigation, we’ve decided that we cannot hold back the content any longer in lieu of some nasty cross-platform bugs.

We’ve consistently stood behind a quality bar for our products, and it’s a standard that our partners and players have also come to expect. For those of you who were looking forward to cross-platform multiplayer, we urge you to understand that should the feature have come into the live environment, desyncs would have been guaranteed and frequent to the point of an extremely poor experience."

Incredible! Cannot believe it.

Ouch. They're going to get tarred and feathered on the Steam forum for this.

Literally, and at this point, I would not blame them. Well, ok, not the violent aspect of tarring and feathering, but I must admit that it is becoming quite ridiculous. We are about two months away for PC users and about three for Mac users for a one year release anniversary and there is no cross-platform? I'm not a Multiplayer, but I must admit I wanted to give it a try this time around and was looking forward to it. So, it will not greatly disappoint me, but it does disappoint. People will look for some type of compensation, I am sure. Tarring and feathering might be a welcomed option for some! :nono:

They were not kidding. There was another update to the macinternalqa again. I'm guessing something needs to happen to the Linux one as well, right?

Cross-multiplayer might be available upon the release of Civ VI's first expansion.

If we are lucky, as things go. I want to imagine how bad are the bugs in that patch. Would the responsibility be only on Aspyr or, as was mentioned before by them, Firaxis needed to do their part and there were issues there. I don't know.

Edit: there was a new comment on Steam that might help clarify this. If Aspyr was able to release x-platform between Mac and Linux, then Firaxis might have issues with the PC/Windows side. But, maybe it's just a simple compatibility issue in the programming across platforms.

I have to go to work, so I'll probably miss the release of DLC05 for Mac and Linux. It should be coming shortly, I would guess. Will dive into it when I come back. Enjoy, Mac & Linux users!

Linux just happened.

This doesn't mean they are releasing today. They have just given up on the cross-platform multiplayer internal testing and are taking the rest of the patch and DLC05 to broader qa testing.

This is probably perfunctory though. The release will be soon.

Major updates to the Mac and Linux main builds. This happened a few weeks ago also.

I've come to expect that the quality bar will be set rather low, yes.

I'm not anticipating any bug fixes.

Cross platform MP and the way we're seeing PR-type commentary reminds me of (long ago) the promised multiplayer patch for 1503AD / Anno 1503.

Literally promised on the box (back when buying games at a store was a thing) but never quite delivered.

UPDATE 8/25/17

We appreciate your patience while we work on getting the Nubia Civilization & Scenario Pack out for Mac and Linux players! This DLC is only $4.99 but is free for Digital Deluxe players!
Q: When’s it coming out?

A: It’s looking like late August/early September for its release.

Q: What about cross-platform?

A: Even with the diligent development efforts by 2K and our teams, its not possible with the out of sync instability problems that are arising in test.

Q: When can we expect it then? It’s been almost a year since Civilization VI has been out for Mac!

A: We’re awaiting the next update cycle with 2K to continue working on cross-platform. When we get more details, we’ll post them here.

Thanks again for all the feedback. Enjoy your weekend at Harvey's everyone!

So a week or so for Nubia for Mac/Linux users.

Sorry wasn't intending to ninja you.

What is meant by "update cycle"?

What is meant by "update cycle"?

The patches happen in a cycle, which is why we can sort of predict them by observing activities on SteamDB.
