I think that the biggest problem was that we focused on the wrong AI. if we had moved against willy instead of againt Asoka, I think things would had been diferent.....

IMHO, nothing to do with wonders. Discounting the little fumble with the HBR, our building of wonders first then army is right.
IMHO, nothing to do with war with Asoka either. If we had gone for WOranje first, then Asoka/Ragnar would have swallowed the other and become an even greater threat.
Of-course, that is just my wishful thinking, blaming on the rules than the decision we make
