DNESR Resurrection

Copan Overrun:
Meanwhile, the Egyptians continued their enthusiastic advance into the northern Mayan territories. The Egyptian forces were still an unusual mix - tanks and artillery fought alongside tribal camel-riding troops. They appeared to be gaining the upper hand, and were also helping the Arequipan rebels to retake most of their country. The Mayan garrison in the city of Arequipa itself was now basically under siege, fortified within the government buildings at the centre of the city. Other Mayan garrisons held onto sections of the trans-continental highway, but the rebels now controlled much of the rest of the province.

But the progress was deceptive, as the Egyptians and Arequipans were actually taking heavy loses, while facing only a small portion of the Mayan forces. ‘Iron Wolf’ army shrugged off its opponents, leaving just enough troops behind to limit their progress, and was able to move most of its forces south into Copanese territory. ‘Jade Tiger’ army also moved in from occupied Holland, despite suffering from supply problems.

amap2.jpg

The Copanese had gambled everything on their attack towards Zeeland, and their army was now ill-placed to defend its own homelands. The Mayans quickly overran most of the Copanese industrial areas. Some Copanese garrisons fought fanatically, while others surrendered, but none of them held up the Mayans for long. Meanwhile, the Mayan airforce continued to enjoy superiority in both numbers and technology, and soon had control of the skies. The remainder of the Egyptian and Copanese air forces put up a brave fight, but their strength was soon reduced to almost nothing. Mayan bombers roamed at will over enemy positions, easing the advance of the ground forces.

Only at the capitol city of Copan itself did the Mayan attack begin to slow down. Both Mayan armies had made large movements, and had elements fighting across a wide area, which led to some serious supply and organisation problems. Mayan commanders went to great lengths to keep their forces as well ordered and supplied as possible, but they were still forced to slow down as the Copanese resistance stiffened. The remaining garrison forces were determined to protect their capitol, and were soon joined by the main Copanese army moving in from the south. By now the Copanese had lost most of their tanks and heavy weapons, but were still able to put up fierce resistance as heavy street fighting began…

(An improved artillery position, somewhere in Copan…)

The final destruction of Copan seems imminent, but the Mayan armies are not in a great position themselves. Iron Wolf army still has the Egyptians and Arequipan rebels on its flank. Meanwhile, Jade Tiger army is still suffering serious supply problems, and is being paralysed by Dutch partisan uprisings at its rear.

Egypt loses a large amount of troops, and all its air force.
The rebels in Arequipa becomes more established, but also suffer high casualties.
Copan loses a large amount of troops, and almost all its air force.
The Mayans take fewer casualties overall.

Hittite War:
Finally, one more war was also continuing in Asia. Following disappointing progress of their invasion into Hitta, the Tartarus military was reorganised and revitalised as a new set of leaders took command. After heavy fighting, their beachhead was soon expanded along the coast, and also further inland, right into the streets of the Hittite capitol. Meanwhile, other Tartar forces were sent to strengthen the faltering lines of the Tyrana rebels. It is rumoured that one or more GDI nations also sent supplies to Tyrana.

smyr.jpg

(Devastation at the Hitta beachhead…)

The Hittites were soon retreating on all fronts. Their capitol city became a battlefield, and they once again lost control of central Aleppo. The Hittite government ordered several counter-attacks, few off which achieved much except to create heavy casualties amongst their own troops. Meanwhile, The Tartar’s superiority in tanks could not be put to good use either, as they were mainly fighting in mountain terrain or in city streets. But the Tartar air force did gain control of the skies, and kept the smaller Hittite force at bay - preventing them from making the most of their powerful ‘Macaw’ bombers (purchased from the Mayans before the war).

The end result was that Tyrana and Tartarus made only moderate gains, although the Hittite military situation is weakening rapidly. The morale of the Hittite people is also being severely tested, yet most still support the government, and are not keen on the idea of occupation by Tartarus.

The Hittites take heaviest casualties overall.
Tartarus suffers moderate causalities.
Tyrana takes the least amount casualties.

Alaska – 12 months after invasion
The USA continues to dominate this island with an overwhelming military presence, consisting of roughly half its total army and navy strength. Some estimate that the civilian population of Alaska is actually outnumbered by the US military personnel stationed there. However, garrison duty in Alaska is not exactly popular with the American troops. Although the scenery is often very beautiful, it is nonetheless extremely cold at this time of year. Not to mention the continuing threat of attack from the Alaskan resistance fighters…

algar.jpg

(US troops, somewhere in Alaska…)

But the USA continues its efforts to stamp out the resistance. Offshore, a tight naval blockade is still in effect. Inland, military bases and fortified outposts are springing up all over the place, while the oilfields especially remain well guarded. In fact, the Alaskan resistance has so far avoided attacks on the oil infrastructure, choosing instead to target US patrols in remote areas – apparently to little effect. The USA has also issued ration cards to all Alaskan civilians, designed to carefully regulate the distribution of food and prevent the rebels from obtaining supplies. But as the Alaskan winter reaches its peak, it is rumoured that this rationing has already led to widespread malnutrition and disease amongst the people.

USA land forces suffer a small amount of casualties.
The Alaskan resistance suffers an unknown number of casualties.

Non-Military Events:

Elections in the USA:
Andrew Jackson has been re-elected as President of the USA, with a comfortable majority in both the state and popular votes. It is a clear defeat of Alfred E. Smith’s anti-war Democrat party. Controversy continues over the creation of Carolina, and the invasion of Alaska. Yet the president gained strong support after he narrowly survived an assassination attempt, which some claim was the result of an Alaskan conspiracy.

Meanwhile, US newspapers have printed ‘leaked’ intelligence documents, which allegedly show how Alaska refused an offer for full independence in return for continuing the oil shipments to the USA.

Also, several US companies are rumoured to be working on ‘Trans-Vision’ equipment, after the US government offered a large sum of money as an incentive. It seems the USA is trying to pre-empt the Japanese development of this technology.

Scandinavian Allthing votes against Attack on Tartarus
“Should we act to preserve our good friends the Hittites and their democracy and trading power? We may not be able to stand up to the big bullies, but stopping the unrestricted aggression of the Tartars is within our power”…

Rurik Karlsefni made an impassioned speech to the Allthing calling for military action against Tartarus, but the result was a clear ‘no’ vote. It seems the Scandinavian people were more concerned about the GDI and threats closer to home. It didn’t help that Japanese and Iroquois ships were fighting near the Scandinavian coasts at the time of the vote.

The Scandinavian military certainly seems eager for action. Since the incorporation merger with the Gotland military (which was a repectable force in its own right), Scandinavia now has one of the largest and most advanced military forces in the world.

Scandinavian Allthing votes to Incorporate Svalbard Isles:
This small archipelago, an old Scandinavian colony south of Gotland, was captured by France centuries ago, before being sold to Venice. With the Japanese entry into the war, the islands virtually lost contact with Venice. Japan has so far ignored the islands…

The islanders still had a strong cultural connection to the Scandinavians, and so they approached the Allthing for protection as part of Greater Scandinavia. The Allthing voted to accept, though many are worried this will only cause more tension with the nations ambitious neighbours.

News from Japan:
A new anti-war, anti-materialist movement is slowly growing within Japanese society, after documents said to be the work of one ‘Akumaji Hito’ were widely circulated in Japan. Things have been compounded by the lack of results form Japan’s recent military operations, causing some people to lose confidence in the current regime.

The Japanese ‘Trans-Vision’ project may help to end this social trouble, by allowing the government to get its own message out to the masses like never before. However, the project has been suffering from a severe lack of funds in recent months. It seems the corporations of the USA may develop the technology before Japan does...

Meanwhile, pro-French riots have been taking place on Reunion, causing chaos and disruption. The island was originally part of France, but has been occupied by Japan for nearly a hundred years. Japan’s recent government reforms were meant to ease such tensions, by granting limited self-rule to the various different islands and cultures under Japanese rule. But it seems the foundation of the new French Empire has re-ignited traditional loyalties to France amongst the people of Reunion.

Elsewhere, Korean-Japanese trade has been declining sharply, as the Korean government signed a free trade agreement with France. It is rumoured that the Korean government is deliberately seeking to cut trade links with Japan and replace them with closer ties to NOD nations...

Finally, Japan has taken full control of Aruga in the east ocean, as the Chinese agree to withdraw from the north of the island. In exchange, Japan gives the tiny island of Kaapstad to China.

German Military Might:
Germany has been showing off its expanding military might with yet more airshows and military parades across the country. Germany’s new ‘Panther’ tanks attracted special attention from foreign observers. This new design is rumoured to be partly based on Roman and Byzantine tanks, and is said to combine the best attributes of both.

Pantherdnr.jpg

News from Spain:
A grand parade has been held in Madrid to honour the arrival of Roman military ‘survivors’ (some would call them deserters). Rome’s brave defence against the Byzantine giant has captured the imagination of the Spanish people. The Spanish military certainly stands to gain from the experience and knowledge of these individuals.

However, some fear that foreign relations could also be hurt by all this. Byzantium may not look kindly upon Spain for harbouring enemy soldiers. And by encouraging some Roman troops to flee abroad, the Spanish have not exactly helped the ASP and the Iroquois situation either...

Meanwhile, the ‘Articles of War’ have had some success. Most nations accepted the articles to some extent, and the ongoing wars have not really spread to new areas. World trade as a whole has continued flowing. As the main campaigner for the Articles, Spain has gained some credibility and influence in world diplomacy.

Finally, the Spanish government has taken various measures to increase its manpower, primarily through the use of womenpower - Spain has given increased rights for women in both civilian jobs and in military service. Spain has also adopted an open-doors immigration policy, similar to that of Scandinavia.

Spain has also finally received its ‘super-carrier’, built in Celtic shipyards – the ship was christened the SRNS ‘Eternal’. The Spanish also began work on a new battleship.

News from Celtonia:
Public opinion in Celtonia is mixed over their nation’s involvement in the war. Many Celtonians have been paranoid about fascist Iroquois expansion for a long time, but an increasing number of people are also opposed to the GDI. And the Celtic people still hold a high opinion of the Venetians, so any aggression against them would not be popular.

Meanwhile, the influence of Akumaji Hito has not been limited to Japan. The anti-materialist ideology has struck a cord with the druidists in Celtonia. Some now talk of ‘New-Age Druidism’ - a cultural revolution to overthrow the current regime and rid Celtonia of ‘evil capitalism, imperialism and corrupting GDI influence’. The neo-communists are also attracted to this idea, and various dissident groups are joining forces. Social unrest is growing in Celtonia, and it may not be too long before there is another ‘insurrection’ on a larger scale…

The Future… 4186-4225 AF

OOC: This is just for fun, based on what I think might have happened…

4186 AF:
Exhausted Byzantine forces finally complete the conquest of Latium, after the remaining Iroquois forces were forced to pull out (leaving many weapons, vehicles and wounded men behind). The situation in Zeeland was not much better for the Iroquois, as the Mayan opposition was only growing more ferocious and determined, while Copan had already lost most of its industry and manpower.

Reluctantly, the Iroquois were forced to accept that their expeditions have failed – they had simply taken on too much at once. However, all was not lost. Venice and the remnants of Holland (indeed, all the remnants of the ASP) were now under heavy Iroquois influence. The GDI had also taken the heaviest losses of land, sea and air forces.

Celtonia now put great pressure on the GDI, and a bitter peace treaty was signed – While Byzantium does not formally recognise Venetian sovereignty, it was forced to allow Venice its freedom (for at least a while). But Byzantium soon had control of the islands of Sicilia and Crete. The Iroquois demanded some form of autonomy for the Romans, and Byzantium made vague promises. This is just a face-saving gesture from the Iroquois, as both sides knew that any Roman dissidents would be ruthlessly oppressed. Latium was a total ruin, its population devastated, and there was little resistance to the ‘Romanoisation’ of the country.

All the Iroquois can buy for Holland is the independence of most of Zeeland, and certain small islands still held by the Dutch. The new ‘Zeeland Union’ is made a neutral state, with no official ties to either the GDI or the Iroquois. The Mayans bitterly resisted this proposal, but were forced to accept. They still had Copan, Arequipa and Egypt to conquer - and were content that they could crush Zeeland eventually, when the time was right. Mayan forces concentrated on conquering Copan, and completely overran the country, before invading Egypt and Arequipa towards the end of the year.

Meanwhile, anti-war and anti-GDI protestors began causing major problems for Celtonia, which was gradually sliding into anarchy…

The Tartars broke the back of the Hittite resistance, taking their capitol after heavy fighting…

The USA was stirring up tensions with Stavanger, accusing it of harbouring fascist revolutionaries and terrorists…

And tension was growing between France and Japan over the future of Reunion island, where a pro-French uprising was continuing to cause havoc.

The Korean physicist, Seok Tong-sik, won the Nobel prize for a series of breakthroughs in the field of nuclear physics. The world’s major powers began looking into the possibility of harnessing atomic energy, for both constructive and destructive purposes...

4187 AF:
The GDI-Iroquois peace treaty still held. The Iroquois people had lost confidence in the current regime, but their fascist government survived a period of instability. Many dissenters were rounded up and sent to prison camps.

Egypt realises the game is up, and completely surrenders to the Mayans. Bitter fighting continued in Arequipa throughout the year. The Mayans soon gained control of the territory, but could not wipe out bands of resistance fighters hiding in the mountains. Mayan dominance of South-East Asia now seemed assured – the Mayans now owned more than double their original territory – but they could not stamp out continual uprisings and unrest in the occupied areas.

Celtonia was crippled by mass protests and civil disorder. By the end of the year, several cities were in a permanent state of riot. Anti-GDI feelings spread, and caused deep divides amongst the people. The pro-GDI government still had many supporters, but just as many determined opponents.

Both Japan and the USA make great strides with their ‘Trans-Vision’ technology. Japan completes is major project, based around large communal public viewing-screens, with full government control of what is shown. Meanwhile, companies in the USA are trying to create devices affordable enough for people to have in their homes.

Then at the end of the year, the revitalised French navy and air force launched a surprise attack on Japan, which was still weakened by its recent losses of ships and planes to the Iroquois. The French concentrated everything on retaking Reunion in one swift campaign, before Japan or the GDI could respond. They managed to achieve this, but only after heavy fighting inland and many losses. France managed to secure a peace treaty with Japan before its fleet could respond – The French quietly offered a large sum of money and resources in return for keeping control of Reunion. The French people now had great confidence in their new Empire.

At the same time, the USA invaded Stavanger, citing its alleged involvement with fascists and terrorists. The USA quickly annexed its mainland territory, while the island of Farsund was made a puppet state. The small army of Stavanger could offer little resistance against massed US firepower. However, The USA misread the feelings of the Scandinavians, who were outraged by the occupation of their former ally. Economic warfare began between the USA and Scandinavia, eventually creating a rift between the economies of the NOD and the EODC. Meanwhile, the USA now faced uprisings in both Alaska and Stavanger. Tension and unrest were now increasing across the American-European continent.

Elsewhere, Tartarus and Tyrana now captured most of the Hittite republic. Only in the province of Uguarit did the Hittites continue to put up any serious opposition.

The Byzantine and the Mayan empires continued to rebuild their forces and consolidate their gains.

4188 AF:
The USA received intelligence from its code-breakers (using their state-of-the-art electronic computers) that the Iroquois were planning an invasion to ‘liberate’ Alaska. The USA convinced its NOD allies (with the exception of Korea) to launch a surprise pre-emptive strike against the Iroquois homelands. It was assumed the Iroquois forces were still weak from the defeat of their expeditions against the GDI.

France, Germany and the USA all stood to gain power, prestige and territory if the Iroquois fascist regime could be defeated. It was also an opportunity to secure NOD political and social dominance of the American-European continent, too good an opportunity to pass up.

So the great attack took place… NOD forces launched a mass ground offensive on several different fronts, the biggest combined invasion in history. Millions of NOD soldiers swarmed across the Iroquois border, backed up by tens of thousands of tanks and aircraft. And in the seas off Alaska, the US navy prepared a trap for the Iroquois invasion fleet…

However, the Iroquois own spies had given warning of the attack. The invasion of Alaska was quickly downgraded to nothing more than a feint, and the main Iroquois forces were kept back. On the continent, Iroquois forces did not try to meet the invasion head-on. They gave up ground, drawing in the NOD armies. The NOD made huge gains in central America – to all the world, it seemed the Iroquois were losing badly. Indeed, after just a few weeks, a German army-group had come close to Salamanca, and the NOD were considering a full scale attack to capture the Iroquois capitol.

But in reality, most of the captured land was empty desert or arid plains. The Iroquois had so far managed to preserve most of their economy and industry, and kept most of their forces intact, all the while their mobilising vast armies of their own.

Meanwhile, the world got its first glimpse of Jet-power in action. The USA and Germany had produced several squadrons of new jet fighters. Although still in the early stages of development, they managed to rule the skies for the first few weeks, outperforming anything the Iroquois air force could throw at them. But the Iroquois pilots were soon taking to the skies in their own jet fighters. The Iroquois also caused havoc on NOD bomber formations with the sudden appearance of short-range, rocket-powered interceptors, which streaked through the skies at incredible speeds.

Supply problems then began to catch up with the NOD ground forces. As their offensive slowed down towards the end of the year, a huge Iroquois counter-attack suddenly crashed straight through neutral Canada (taking some heavy losses from its brave defenders) before ploughing through the exposed lands of Oregon and the north-west USA. This caught the NOD by surprise, and the Iroquois armies only slowed down once they reached the outskirts of Washington. The Iroquois now had supply problems of their own. But neither side looked like giving in.

There was no doubt, this great continental war would be the greatest and most terrible ever seen… Several million people had already died in its first year.

Meanwhile in Asia, Celtonia was struck by full scale civil war, as neo-drudists and neo-communists managed to gain support of elements of the military, and seized control of the south and west of the country.

With Celtic influence incapacitated, and little threat of any immediate retaliation from the Iroquois, the Byzantines launched an all out assault on Venice. It would take over a year to subdue the island, with terrible loss of life on all sides. The Mayans also took the opportunity to conquer Zeeland and the remaining Dutch islands.

Finally, Tartarus declared a new empire, taking control of all of the former Hittite territory, as well as incorporating the Tyrana rebels.

JFdnr.jpg

4189 AF:
The combined NOD industry was now in full war mobilisation and was out-producing the Iroquois. Powerful German ‘Panther’ tanks were being massed produced in both the USA and Germany, along with various kinds of jet aircraft.

Streams of reinforcements held the NOD lines around Washington. The USA also deployed chemical weapons against the Iroquois troops – designed to be temporarily disabling, but not to cause permanent damage. However, there were soon reports of several deaths. The Iroquois began planning to retaliate with their own chemical weapons, which would be fully lethal. But for the time being, they were forced to withdraw back into Oregon.

France invaded Akwesane to destroy the Iroquois’ last source of oil. This was the last straw for the Scandinavians, who had been concerned at the growing power of Imperial France and the NOD in general. The people of Scandinavia voted to attack France. Germany and the USA soon declared war on Scandinavia in return.

The Scandinavians did not attack the French borders, but used their airforce and navy to try to force the French out of Akwesane. The French air force had no reply to the Scandinavians’ own jet-powered fighters and bombers, which caused heavy damage. France was soon forced to call upon the US and German air force for assistance. Meanwhile, the Scandinavians avoided a pitched battle with the French navy, wearing them down instead with their advanced submarines and experimental anti-ship guided rockets.

The French now had a chance to re-conquer Scandinavia and truly rebuild their empire. The revitalised French army recalled most of its expedition forces from the Iroquois fronts, and made an all-out effort against the province of Skane. The Scandinavians had underestimated the capability and readiness of the French army, as well as the motivation of their troops. They tried to lure the French into the more mountainous country in the east, but to no avail. After heavy fighting, French forces overran Skane, thus creating a land route to Besancon, and leaving Gotland isolated.

In Asia, the Celtic civil war continued to escalate. The GDI refused to take sides at this point. The Celtic government now had to wage all-out war against the rebel forces. For the first time in centuries, Celtonia was hardly able to project any military power beyond its own borders.

Meanwhile, the Byzantines and Mayans launched a massive combined attack on the Tartarus Empire. The Tartars put up a brave defence, but were overwhelmed by much superior forces. By the end of the year, the short-lived Tartarus Empire was no more. Tartar troops held onto Hitta, and had taken a heavy toll on the attackers, but nonetheless had been pushed out of all their other continental territory. The Byzantines and Mayans divided up the spoils, and created a much-reduced Hittite state as a GDI puppet.

Back on the other continent, a French invasion of Gotland became bogged down and suffered heavy casualties. Meanwhile, elite Scandinavian commandos launched raids on French coastal facilities and industrial targets, as well as causing havoc in occupied Skane. The Scandinavians then launched a well-planned attack into Normandy and Germany’s colonies in Mexico.

The French still dreamed or recreating their old empire, but were now forced to accept that the modern Scandinavia was simply too well established and too strong to be conquered quickly. The French settled down for a long war. Unfortunately, Japan now declared war on France, with the stated aim of regaining Reunion island. The French had been half-expecting such a move, and Reunion was well defended. Japan could not completely overrun the island.

The rest of the GDI was hesitant to enter into war with the NOD. Byzantium and the Mayan Empire were exhausted after years of constant warfare, and had a lot of rebuilding and consolidation to do.

But at the end of the year, Spain (and Mexico) declared war on the NOD, citing the USA’s use of chemical weapons and its alleged mistreatment of ethnic-Spanish people in Alaska.

timeline4189.jpg

4190 AF:
The war in central America swung back and forth all year, with the NOD making steady progress overall. Spanish and Iroquois naval forces were narrowly defeated near Alaska. But Germany was forced to pull out of its Mexican colonies, under attack from all sides.

France made steady progress into Bergslagen and Gotland, and continued to hold Reunion, but at a heavy cost.

Celtic rebels began to get the other hand, as more and more troops deserted the government cause. Norseland was granted full freedom by the rebels. Byzantium intervened to ‘support the legitimate Celtic government’, and secured the resources of Norseland for itself with a large invasion force.

The GDI was now effectively at war with the Celtic rebels, which only helped to fan the flames of anti-GDI paranoia in Celtonia.

Meanwhile, Celtic rebel forces began to gain influence in the Inca republic, stirring up anti-GDI protests in that country also. But the Inca government remained committed to the GDI, if only for fear of a massive invasion from the Mayans and Byzantines if it acted otherwise.

4190-4225 AF:
The NOD never quite managed to overcome the Iroquois and its allies, and soon found itself in an unofficial war against the GDI for global supremacy. The Iroquois, Tartars, Spanish, Scandinavians, and Celtic rebels were all somewhere in the middle.

In 4191, The USA was the first to develop atomic weapons. Eager to end the war against the Iroquois, the USA dropped its first bomb on an important front-line Iroquois army position. This caused a great deal of shock, but Iroquois did not crumble - their own weapons program was not far behind, and they soon retaliated against US troops. But at this early stage, atomic weapons were not cost-effective as a front line weapon. Each side could only produce one or two low-yield bombs every few months, at great cost, and could never hope to completely wipe out the other side’s vast conventional military forces. But neither side wanted to take the first step into using them as a city-destroying weapon.

Byzantium and the Mayans had soon constructed several atomic bombs of their own, which they used against strongholds of the Celtic rebels. This turned the whole Celtic population against the GDI for good. And the Celtic rebels still managed to fight back, eventually kicking the GDI forces out of Celtic lands, establishing a new Celtic government. The neo-druidic-communist Celts took the war into Norseland, as well as northern Inca and Byzantine territories. Soon they also had their own nuclear deterrent, thanks to the defection of several GDI scientists and help from the NOD.

Finally, both France and the Scandinavians developed their own atomic bombs at about the same time, with the help of their respective allies. But neither side dared to use them.

There was now a nuclear stand-off, while limited conventional warfare continued around the world. All sides refrained from the further use of atomic weapons, each fearing that their enemies had accumulated more bombs and better ways of delivering them. And few nations dared to launch any major offensives against their enemies, fearing that they would trigger a nuclear exchange if they pushed too far. But those nations that had already suffered from atomic attack – Iroquois, USA and Celtonia – were still eager to reap bloody revenge.

As the years wore on, all sides stockpiled more and more bombs, as well as more sophisticated bombers and rockets to deliver them. The NOD and GDI were dominant on the world scene, each side trying to destabilise the other, each trying to win more allies to its side. Unofficial wars and skirmishes were fought all over the world. With the constant tension and military pressure, technology increased at a rapid rate. Supersonic, long range aircraft were developed, along with guided missiles of all kinds and long-range intercontinental rockets. Hydrogen-bombs were also perfected, as nuclear weapons became ever more powerful.

Humanity stood at the dawn of space exploration, but the demands of warfare were never ending. No nation could spare the resources for such a noble venture…

nukednr.jpg

4225 AF Onwards…
How or why it started, nobody can say for sure. But, Inevitably, it did happen – the great atomic war. Some feared all life on the planet would be made extinct… The climate was ruined for centuries, and deadly contamination spread everywhere…

But humanity, and life in general, just managed to outlive the storm. For those people that continued to exist, there were no longer any nations or ideologies to cling to. Civilisation and technology was all but lost. Humanity was united by the struggle to survive, and by the desire to rebuild.

The unity would only last a while, until the world was once again divided by competing nations and ideologies… Perhaps to repeat the cycle of destruction… Or, just maybe, to reach out into the stars…

Aye, I also would have tried to be rather less stupid than Scandinavians in Dafts postulated future and there wer rather alot of tricks I was planning to deploy

Yeah sorry about that... I should have put a lot more though into the 'future' events. Really its all just a preminition by some celtic mystic, done while high on drugs and whiskey.

The real future will remain unknown I guess...

If you get bored in the summer you could start this thing again and then we would see...

Finally found time to catch up... a real damn shame this ended, as I really enjoyed those updates, rare though they were. IMHO you're a great mod, I certainly wouldn't have managed to keep this going for so long with such complicated rules and so forth.

A great last update, btw, as usual it is very powerful.

Academician Julien Pandeaux does protest the Celtic prophecy, because quite clearly future will develop differently, if only because of France's strenghthening relations with other American nations. No, really - I didn't intend to attack Scandinavia before I beat up the GDI with its help. I was going to replace the NOD with the GLA (Grand League of America), uniting the NOD, the Scandinavian alliance and the Iroquois (after my previous Celtic diplomatic overture has failed). Said alliance would have then bolstered the Sea Peoples, hopefully crippling the GDI (by defeating Japan and asserting naval supremacy, and then destroying enemy commerce and assisting their many enemies back in "Asia" against them). Even if my plans wouldn't have worked, this definitely would have been a radical historical change, IMHO, from the very start of your future TL.

Hmm. Now that I mentioned all that, maybe the rest should reveal their plans as well?

And thanks for the awards!

Panda and I had a conspiracy to dominate the world. And it would've worked if it wasn't for those meddling Iroquois.

Actually, in the prediction, we got pretty close to our goals. After the ASP bit the dust, we were going to partition up the Hittites. Then we were going to KO the Inca under "security concerns" due to political instabilities. Probably the same in Celtonia.

We actually had no ambitions on the Americas until well after Asia was secure. Quite frankly, you were all paranoid. And hypocritical bastards to boot. ;) Upon securing Asia I was planning on developing numerous secret weapons programs and field testing them in the Americas for use in future NESes. On the plus side, nobody knows what they are. Or at the very least, certain people only happen to have scattered clues... :)

I was not at all paranoid, I just wanted to take out Japan and to help the Iroquois in embroiling themselves in Asia. ;)

They had already dedicated two armies, both of which were crumbling (I, for one, would likely not have agreed to any peace treaty, especially given the strategic position I was in). With only three left in reserve, further invasions would've been quite the Vietnam for them. Burning their troops like so much kindling hardly makes them useful allies either - unless you were intending to just drain and invade them. Alex made it sound as if it were to be a more simple alliance.

The other problem is, by the time one could piece together such a GLA, the ASP would have long since ceased to exist, and would thus be somewhat difficult to support.
