Do settled Great People remain in captured cities now?

I captured Bibracte off Boudicca last night and I noticed there were 3 settled Great People in there, plus a free regular Scientist and a free regular other specialist(I think it was an artist from the Salon)
I'd never noticed this in warlords or Vanilla is it new to Bts?
The free regular Scientist is weird though.
I'll try to remember to post a screenshot tomorrow.

I thought they always did remain in cities, regardless of the amount of times the city has been sacked.

The settled Great People always stay, too bad the idle ones don't. I couldn't tell you about the regular free specialists, though, I would think they would leave as they are usually the benefit of some other factor, or you just overlooked something (Statue Of Liberty maybe?)

Settled GPs now remain in captured cities as of BtS.

Particularly helpful:
  • Military Instructors in a city with Military Academy
  • Great Artists (pop borders more quickly)

Probably through events or something. There's a Horticulturalist event that'll give you... Something, beakers? Anyhow, if you spend money on it, there's a 66% chance of getting double the beakers, some health, and a free Scientist. I also know of at least one event (Quest?) that'll give a free Engineer.

Yeah, there are a number of random events that can result in a free great person; I got one the other night that gave me a choice of a free Military Instructor, Great Merchant, or Great Prophet. And those, also, now apparently remain when a city is captured. Nice!

Thanks for the help guys, that explains things.
The free scientist must have been from an event then, although it was just a regular scientist, not a great one.

Yeah, some of the events result in that--a permanent free scientist along the same lines as the ones you get from the Great Library. Those scientists are better in some ways than a settled GS, because they contribute GP points.

The library quest specifically can result in that type of free scientist if you own the GL as well. It's pretty awesome to have your GL city running 5 scientists (2 from the GL, 1 from the quest, 2 from a Library) early in the game, all of them contributing towards a Great Scientist. Since the GL is probably my favourite wonder, this has become by far my favourite quest/random event.

My least favourite random event? Having 4-6 Swordsmen appear suddenly outside of one of your lightly-defended core cities.

I once captured Washington's capital after he had been in several wars and he had a Military Academy with 3 Great Generals settled in it! It was great
