I live in this part of the city, actually. And there are indeed a lot of very unique cheap cafés around, there's ecology, one with an artist group having done the interior, some microbreweries, and generally colorful people, be it hipsters, hookers or the homeless.
I'm a state-subsidized poet in this neighbourhood, know a lot of the really good, cheap cafés, and I'm happy to live here actually. Even if you haven't even heard about it.
