Do we want to trigger a Golden Age before getting our UU?

There've been talk of getting Universal Suffrage and other scientific wonders (like Theory of Evolution). There's a problem:

A Golden Age can also be triggered by having 1 or 2 wonders which match the civ's attributes. Our civ is militaristic and scientific. So, we need a wonder (or wonders) with a militaristic AND scientific attribute to trigger our golden age.

Universal Suffrage - Militaristic (this satisfies the Militaristic attribute)

Newton's/ToE - Scientific (this satisfies the Scientific attribute)

Build Universal Suffrage and ToE (if we go for Universal Suffrage, we have no chance at Newton's), we enter a golden age.

The question is, do we want this now?

we need ToE to try and keep up withy the AI as for Universal Sufferage, we will need this once we go to war again with democracy as our government

A golden age in the middle of the industrial age is fine by me. The alternative will be one in the late industrial age, courtesy of our panzers. Either of these scenarios is quite workable.

Both have their advantages. GA fuelled Panzer production would be nice, but a pre-Panzer GA would give us the opportunity to pump out needed improvements in addition to a veritable horde of cavalry. I still hold to my assertion that we should be using Horsa to form an army, though ;)

I favor using ToE to keep up with the AI and trigger our Golden Age. I think a Golden Age in Middle Industrial is perfect.

I would say that a GA would be nice, but both ToE and US are so vital in their own right that getting on early and only picking up a minor wonder like Newton's would not be worth the sacrifice.

YES.....preferably under the US/ToE scenario. That would give us the opportunity to properly prepare for a Golden Age by building roads for more trade, and getting more markets and banks(remember, these are free upkeep thanks to Mr. Adam Smith). And yes, Democracy(yawn, I know..... ;)) would be the ideal government to be in when our Golden Age begins.
