Here's an interesting poll...

You know the feeling, there's one civ left and you are playing with the largest map known to man, but where is that last pesky civ? Do you save your gave, turn the cheat mode on, and find their location and then reload, or is it taboo for you and you wouldn't stoop so low? I am interested in what you think...

No.No need to.
There are techniques available in such a situation.Easiest is to make nice for abit and trade maps.
You can use the units supported box to triangulate an unseen city fairly quickly.
Marco Polo's.
Apollo.

I CAN'T cheat... I play on Playstation... :crazyeyes But yah, Apollos does it for me.

I too play on PS and so I couldn't cheat if I wanted to. I could of course use the renaming your city _CasH cheat (holding down R2 when you enter H) but haven't used this in ages. I did on my first game to ensure that it was easy and that there wasn't anything too different from the PC version, but after that I was happy that it was Civ and left the cheat behind me. Maybe that should be in the 5 finger discount thread? ;)
I like the Apollo wonder's ability to see all over the map and will merrily send alpine troops in transports to visit all the huts I've missed and then vast invasion forces to wipe out the other civs. The only trouble with the Playstation is that restarting dead civs is mandatory until quite late in the game and so although you can see all of the enemy's cities, if they've only got a settler then you can look for them for ages. In which case, carriers with planes are the best method for tracking them down.

DUKE!!! I am not alone in my Playstation shame!! I thought I was the only one... I used that cheat in the past but it makes the game so boring... There are times where it is tempting, but for the most part, it's no good.

As for restarting civs, I played a recent game where a civ was wiped out in the 1st 40 turns by another civ, and it did NOT restart. 5 civs besides myself for the rest of the game. This was on Prince, it's the highest I can go without getting crapped on.

Wow, a vet CFCer who plays Playstation...

Apollo programme makes it easy. But usually my empires are so large that there arent many corners of the world that people can cough without me knowing about it :)

Yes Duke, that is the one thing I feel jaded on, the MP and map creation...
I like Apollo. It is so great, especially for a player like me who likes to be iso and small untill all tech advances are discovered. Then I build Apollo and THEN I take over the world. :goodjob:

No need. It's more fun to look for them. Plus, if I can't see them yet they can't have grown too big. Or get Marco Polo's/UN and give them some cash or techs, and ask to share maps. Then break the Peace Treaty (which is easy if you have the Statue), the reputation won't hurt cause there's only one Civ left anyways. Then you annihalate them.

:santa:

I occasionally do that, but only in scenarios, on large maps, where apollo can not be built and where negotiation is probibited (Through events). In this case it really sucks trying to find that final city.
