Folks, let's remember this is just a toy and the idea is to have fun playing with it. If someone thinks it's fun to mess around with the game, that's up to them. Or if someone thinks a victory is sweeter when they abstain from reloading, that's fine too.

provided you don't have "reserve random seed" on, of course!

eheh, yeah... no I wasn't using preserve random seed btw. Although even with this option disabled, in single player I can't reload battles (I mean, it will be always the same). Only in multiplayer it works.

cheating ???

1) like reloading that stupid soldier of kilmorph you just forgot to activate and loose the wonder... oh . yes :D

1bis) Sometimes when I forgot to move a unit (barbarian spearman near your civ... oki-dooki, -then go do something else- go back to game .. end turn. barbarian pillaged your gold mine !! f*** the barbarian ! forgot to activate the golem!)

2)usually I reload my scout when I'm trying to go back to the capital for upgrading and he is still halpf the world around. (I hate loosing my lvl7 wanabe hunter while he is still a scout). then I won't use the new seed but try another path.. when both (2-3) path are all dooming my scout .. One shall meet his fate.

3) WB : many times moving ressources/tiles around by 1 tile. never more than 1 per city site per 2-3city in early game. (I love super sites, and hate loosing that gold yield because it's 1 tile out of any fat cross.)
But I'm happy, I learned to overcome my urges to add ressources I don't have inside my lands, and to screen my lands for horse, mithril, iron or copper. or any other strategic ressources. I even stopped using WB to see the better city sites.
4) WB.. seeing where archeron and ortus appeared. and who eventually killed them.
5) recreating a unit lost due to very stupid management (ie : scout moved two tiles at the same time, onto a grayed area, losing the turn to an elephant or hill giant or spider.. that I hadn't seen)

6)... no that's all.

I can still say that less cheating is difficult to atteign, is more of a burden for me (arg, "No Cala, you mustn't reload to save barnaxus...") but in the end, it's more fun.

I can't agree more with that. The world builder is there for everyone, and autosave were created for a purpose. Making sure everyone enjoys the game. Now if you use these features or not, it is up to you. Do whatever suits your style of play, and meets your preference. In single player, nobody can argue against it.

I'm most tempted to cheat when I see a nice city spot with 4 or 5 resources... but the plot where I want to put my settler is a mountian or a lake! Grrr! Still, I usually just go somewhere else, but if it is early I might be frustrated enough just to start a new map.

never-

Either i'm too lazy to reload, I feel sorry for the Ai, or I quit and then play other games until a new version of ffh comes out.

Yes, sometimes, a little.

Today, I was playing Age of Ice scenario, and I checked when I built my mammoth camp that I was not planting it on an existing resource. I almost hurt my eye looking at the screen so close so I couldn't see the map or anything :P

But else, I usually reload (or use WB when its faster) if I get repeatedly unfair defeats, or if I make stupid obvious mistakes - gah, forgot to move this worker near the barbarian. That kind of thing.

But the AI cheats too. So we both use our own magic. :D

It's very interesting that the poll is running about 50-50 on cheaters, or should I say, those who admit they cheat.;)

I think onedreamer for one nailed it when he justified the cheating by saying the AI cheats. I feel much better now!:lol:

oh. I just remembered another one...
forgetting to move or reveal your hidden nationnallity animals when a hunter with open borders enters your realm.
I had to reload 3 times !! because I changed 1 unit at a time, forgotting the others..

a gameplay question :
can a tamed wolfpack spawn wolfs if left alone long enough? it could be cool for 'raising' wolf packs in order to creat worg riders...

can a tamed lion or tamed bear creat dens ? (I always put them directly in cities so never checked it but the thought crossed my mind this morning).

Cala.

I think awolf-pack can spawn wolves only under barbarian or Doviello control.

If tamed lions or bears are on valid types of terrain in neutral territory, you can use the create "den spell" spell to gift them back to the barbarian state and they will create a den which will continue to generate barbarian animals. I have never done this personally.

oh..
I thought that maybe, as baby spiders are gifted to the owner, a similar mecanism could be possible for other beasty.

How can you feel sorry for an AI ? EHEH I must admit that this made me smile. And remember: the AI cheating forces you to cheat... to a certain extent... I speak mostly or only of combat odds. I don't reload my own errors like forgetfulness, and I NEVER reroll a starting position except one lone case: a starting position with 3 seafood resources and Sailor's Dirge next to them. [OT]The only game where I consistently cheated out of total frustration are those with Rhye's and Fall of Civilization. I've perpetrated all sorts of despicable cheats there, and most times I didn't even feel guilty about it given the amount of frustration that got me[/OT]

I try not to cheat, just to get more challenge out of the game experience.

However, I've recently been playing with the Infernals and honestly, it's so hard playing (at monarch) that civ that I found myself reloading quite a few times. You can't afford many mistakes with the Infernal when you're back in tech, low on units, low on cities, surrounded by civs that hates you in a few game turns, and at least one of them declares war because you're an easy prey. When Basium joins the party, it gets even harder.

Well thats not specifc to FFH2 but anyway:
After playing the ww2 pacific mod in bts I'm now really convinced that the AI cheats like hell (at least in air combat).
I played GB and produced almost 100 hawker hurricanes and upgraded them later to spitfires.
So I had more and better figthers (22strength against 20) and guess what:
I lost 3 fighters for every 2 the japanise lost. Also 95% of my bombers were shot down, while 75% of the enemies sucessfully bombed my units and 10 of those i stoped actually shot my fighters down!.

You seem to be saying that the Doviello can cast the Create Den spells. How about the Clan?

Any civ can use the create den spell if they have a fully healed lion pride or bear on a valid tile, which must be of the proper type of terrain in unowned territory and far enough away from any other dens. I have very rarely seen this option available. The Dovielo are the only civ (other than the barbs) who can spawn more wolves in their wolf packs.

Here is the code python code for the create den requirements:
def reqCreateDen(caster):
if not canCast(caster):
return False
iImprovement = -1
if caster.getUnitType() == gc.getInfoTypeForString('UNIT_LION_PRIDE'):
iImprovement = gc.getInfoTypeForString('IMPROVEMENT_LION_DEN')
if caster.getUnitType() == gc.getInfoTypeForString('UNIT_BEAR'):
iImprovement = gc.getInfoTypeForString('IMPROVEMENT_BEAR_DEN')
if iImprovement == -1:
return False
if caster.getDamage() > 0:
return False
pPlot = caster.plot()
if pPlot.isOwned():
return False
if pPlot.getNumUnits() != 1:
return False
if pPlot.getImprovementType() != -1:
return False
if pPlot.canHaveImprovement(iImprovement, caster.getOwner(), true) == False:
return False
iX = pPlot.getX()
iY = pPlot.getY()
for iiX in range(iX-2, iX+3, 1):
for iiY in range(iY-2, iY+3, 1):
pPlot2 = CyMap().plot(iiX,iiY)
if pPlot2.getImprovementType() == iImprovement:
return False
return True

in the first couple of test games of FFh i added several mana nodes to the map, mainly so i could instantly experiance all the spell spheres without having to play several games.
now i'm more familure with teh spells and know which ones i want to build i don't add extra nodes anymore.
