Do you have an opinion on prostitution?

I have a dislike of the principle of prostitution, as it's making the human body a merchandise.

It's impossible to ban prostitution, so the best solution is the one of the Netherlands.

The prostitute in the article said she disliked the idea because creating "prostution zones" label them as prostitutes. Well, wearing those clothes it's hard not to get labelled, so I fail to understand her point.

A man with strong back uses his body to earn money and put food on the table. Its his choice to earn a living with his body. Whats wrong with a woman using her god given attributes to earn a living, if thats her choice?

'cause having sex with someone is not like carrying heavy package ?
Workforce isn't the same thing as sex. You don't claim your wife cheated on you 'cause she is carrying the furniture in a store. Denying the difference is just bickering on technicality without links with reality.

Sorry, but no, prostitution is not like another work. Nobody wishes for their daughters that they end up prostitutes.

I don't say we should ban it. I say I'm, personnally, against the principle itself. I don't plan to impose my opinion on this on anyone, but well, the question was "what are your opinion". So I gave it.

Well I never said my wife could be a prostitute and I wouldnt mind. Married women are only supposed to have one steady customer, the husband;)

If to sell your workforce is the same as selling your body, why would you mind if your wife sold her body to someone else ? After all, she's already selling her workforce, and you were the one saying they are the same, right ? :p

True, however if they were that desparate to do it, I would rather they were doing it in a safer environment.

I'm against forced prostitution.
But if women make it by their free will and have all rights of worker (like in some countries), it's OK in my opinion. But then they are going to pay taxes ;)

I wouldnt marry a practicing prostitute, so this would never be an issue:lol: But I see nothing wrong with a single woman using her body to make a living. Do you have any idea how much money some protitutes make?? Its mind boggling. And its all tax free! Im surprised more women dont get into it.

Right, if its legal, they have to pay taxes, nothing wrong with that. Especially since they can easily under report their earnings.

I support the legalisation of prostitution and regulated licensed brothels. To work in them you would need to be subject to regular health checks. It would be required to use condoms. The transaction would have to take place on-site, with security alarms in each booth or room.

Prostitution will happen anyway it is just a question of (1) whether things are as safe as possible for the women doing it, and (2) whether the people who profit from it are pimps and other assorted miscreants, or whether it is the women themselves.

The tax deductable expenses claims would make interesting reading. :D

Trying to eliminate prostitution through banning and outlawing is impossible. Better legalize and taxate it. That would make it safer for the women and generate income to the state. The prostitutes could even form a labour union. :p

I should have added a poll: How many actually read the article?

---

A lot of people here are saying it's good to legalise them; but what about younger & more vulnerable girls who would be forced to work outside the legal circle? :hmm:

At the moment they get protection from other prostitutes (according to the article) but you are advocating the removal of that protection.

Theres a big difference between adult women engaging in prostitution of their own free will, and underage girls being forced into it. IMO legalising and regulating prostitution would be a good way of preventing the abuse of minors in the field.

I don't think that more than 5-10% of the women do it at their free will. Do you have any idea, how a woman turns into a prostitute? I'll tell you how: she's being held in a room for 5-10 days and she's being constantly raped/beaten, from morning until evening. Now, I wouldn't call that a "free will".
However, I know many women(some of them are friends of mine), that go everyday with another man, and for free!!!

Like I said in a prior post, all the more reason to legalise it so these sorts of things could be prevented.

Exactly, whats wrong with making a little money along the way?

If an adult female wants to employ herself in that way, I've got no business telling her not to. No, I wouldn't want my wife prostituting herself, but then again I wouldn't want her to become an ordained minister either. :p
