Do you know how to keyboard (type) by touch?

I never learned -- I use five or six fingers and my eyes dart from keyboard to screen... I can produce approximately fifty words a minute in this way, with no uncorrected mistakes. (I frequently have to use the "backspace" key to fix errors.) I depend on a spell-checker to catch an average of one misspelling every two or three paragraphs, and repeated words...

I usually compose my posts in e-mail, spell-check them and edit for clarity, then copy them into a post field.

What is your keyboarding style? Do you think it's ridiculous to attempt to make it in today's world without knowing how to keyboard (type) by touch? I'd say that decent keyboarding skills are almost as important as knowing how to drive, at least in the United States...

I've just now learnt in school how to correctly type, and it's greatly improved my typing speed and accuracy, especially when I have to type something from something else (since I don't have to look at the keyboard or monitor anymore, and instead can just look at the thing I have to type).

If you can consistantly manage 50wpm by hunt and peck you should have no worries. I would just think it would be a pain to have to keep looking at the keyboard while trying to finish a thought.

I can type without looking at the keyboard if I try, however this prompts several unwanted typos...it's easier just to be looking at the keyboard while typing and make few, if any, errors. I don't know what speed I type at.

I can type pretty fast without looking at the keyboard. I bet in a few more years you removed the letters from my keyboard, I would still type well. Those little bumps on the F and J key (at least on my keyboard) help a bit.

typing was the only worthwile thing i learned in highschool.
i dont even remember how i typed before. i dont know how fast i type, where could i find out? is there some program that will tell me (too lazy to time myself).

i think typing without looking at the keyboard is VERY important. anytime you have to type something from a paper you'll see what i mean.
at one point i had to type stuff in russian (my mothertoung but i never type in it) and i made a paper with the layout of the letters on the keyboard (keyboard didnt have the letters on it) and was able to type prety well by looking at that piece of paper.

yeah ,im a pretty fast typer to ,although i look at my keyboard once and awhile ,just "center" my hands.I gues i get about 50 to 100 hits/minute.

Yeah, not too shabby. I can probably do about 50 or so WPM. I taught myself, and it has come in very handy, especially in these forums!

I can type pretty fast and I rarely look at the keyboard. I normaly know what mistakes I've made when typing without even looking at the screen.

I can type without looking. I'm really not sure of my WPM. If I type with looking, I actually often end up with more typos than usual, because I have nothing to check it with. I make ALOT of typos though, but I've become quite adept at using the Backspace key, so they don't really slow me down.

I can type pretty quickly without looking at the keyboard. As for words p/m, I've no idea.

The bugger is that despite having a Natural keyboard at home, I've a standard one at work, and it can be a pain switching between the two. My Natural keyboard is great although it took a while to get used to it.

I learned in highschool, but never really practiced it enough to become facile. So, my WPM is probably in the 30 range, I look at my hands a lot, and make a buttload of mistakes, resulting in a lot of 'backspace' presses.

You can get pretty fast this way. I bet I could do 50 WPM. But I'm a programmer, so I see a keyboard all day.

That's the one.

I had an unfortunate incident with my old one a few years ago, involving aspirin, orange juice, and too much beer

I replaced it with a Natural keyboard. Aside from the price, I really like it.
