I normally name all my ancient age units when playing GOTM to make it easier for the QSC. Once the QSC is gone, I normally only name the GL producing ones, the ones who deal death blows to a tribe and the one's who do something special like a pike defending against a healthy knight army, a cavalry who kills a samurai army or a spearman who wins against a tank :spear:

I see an immediate desist in 78's future  . @P- I've been looking for
that post :goodjob: . That cleared up some things for me too ;) .

Ahem... I will not. The thread is convincing, I agree. But this thread is made in 2002. I played this particular game in 2004! Conquests is very different in rules to 1.29 as PTW to vanilla.

The information provided by the thread in question is not applicable to this situation.

PS I am deeply sorry Vizurok for messing up this thread. My apologies.

So in short: nothing has changed in my position.

I always have Groups of units i.e. 2 pikemen, 4 mounted units, 2 cannon, and a group of attack units such as Beserkers. I name one unit in this group as a group leader
.

What difficulty level do you play at as you might find that conquest is easier by having much larger groups and often it is possible to simply concentrate on just mounted units as they move quickly and if you have enough then the occasional defeat is made up by the speed. Although this is most applicaple to Knights as they have 4 defence.

I rename my privateers! Always to pirate names or whatnot. This is best in multiplayer. One time all three of us survivers were privateering one another with Blackbeard, Megellan, and the likes.

I may not rename my units, but I do give unspeakable labels to the RNG....

I have just started playing Diety level. I prefer, whenever possible, to work with groups that will allow me to ward off counter attacks on my way to the target. Too often, I have been attacked by enemy units before I could launch my attack.

If I have a strong enough military I will use blitzstrieg tactics, especially if I plan to raze enemy cities and not keep them

I can't believe I don't know how to name Units, I didn't know it was possible in Conquest.

Please tell me how you guys do it :), I want to name my battleships after all those famous Dutch warmachines.

Shift-N to rename the unit.

I name every single one of my units, including my workers. They all have names like Carl, Steve, Phillip, Margret and i make sure they all my units are are on a first name basis with each other.

That's what i call true micromanagement :)

Sometimes I rename my units who produce elites.
So it would be like "Knight The Hero". Then in future I would upgrade the Knight to Cavalry and it confuses me when it is still called "Knight The Hero"
I reckon i need to choose a better naming schema or rename them again after the upgrade. :)

Any idea if savegame editor will recognize the names you give the units, or do you still have to find them via position ?

I guess I'm just a sexist pig because all my workers have female names

I know you can start a scenario with prenamed units, so I would guess the answer is yes.

I name only elite units... What kind of names do they get? Well, it depends. Sometimes I go for a Wrestling names like Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Macho man randy savage, Jake the snake roberts, the honky tonk man etc... If I can't come up with names I name them, Rocco Siffredi, Ron Jeremy, Mark Davis, Max Hardcore etc...

Just the first 20 or so (mostly named after ex-girlfriends).

It somehow feels right to send Ann & Bev to go clean up the pollution
