Do you play video game rpgs?

I have dominated the following...
Final Fantasy 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, Dragon Quest 1,2,3, Phantasy Star 1,2(soon), Breath of Fire 4, Xenogears/saga 1,2, Lufia 1,2, 7th Saga, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, Secret of Mana, Wild Arms 1,3, Lunar 1,2, Secret of Evermore, Legend of Dragoon, Crystalis, Star Ocean 2, Shining Force 1,2, Final Fantasy Tactics, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Super Mario RPG, Dragon Ball Z SNES import, forgot about the others

The list of those waiting for my greatness is longer.

My Favorite is Xenogears.

I don't own a video game console, but I got seriously (like problematicly) addicted to KOTOR II for the PC.

Maybe one of you kids would be so kind and educate an old git here.

Silent Hill is NOT an rpg. Its a survival/horror game. I dont think you know what an rpg is....

A. This should go in the Other Games forum.

B. Technically speaking, Silent Hill could be considered an RPG, because you're playing the role of the main character (Role Playing Game).

C. I prefer strategy games, I'm tired of all those first person shooting RPG's (Many of the 007 games, etc).

D. And before you say I don't know what I'm talking about, I currently own and play NES, Super NES, N64, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Playstation 2, and a PC built specifically for gaming. And I have a grand total on all those systems of about 125 games. Of all genres, mind you.

Role Playing Game. A game where you run around with a character not only killing things. These games usually involve some sort of plot that the main character (player) can either twist or fulfill. MMORPG stands for Massive ONline Multiplayer RPG. The best known are "World of Warcraft" and "Ultima Online".

RPG's are my favourite genre i've played:
Baldurs Gate 1/2, Neverwinter Nights +expansions (no premium modules though) Jade Empire, Planescape Torment, Kotor 1+2, Morrowind and Lionheart legacy of the crusader.

Before I really got into computer games i would "help" my dad when he played these forgotten realms games on the amiga and commodore.

I dont like Japanese style RPGs though I always feel im just fighting my way to the next cutscene like im not even making a difference (probably because you dont make your own character, your just watching someone else), too much time spent fighting pointless random battles just so you can level up to stand a chance in the next boss fight.

My thoughts exactly... I'm going to have to try out the games on your list that I haven't before, with your opinions so similar to mine. (and that avatar!)

The only true RPGs I have are KOTOR, KOTOR2 and Diablo2. KOTOR is excellent, one of my favorite games of all time. KOTOR2 could have been better than KOTOR, but it was released in such a horrid state.... :( I do have hopes for the guys (Team Gizka? or something like that) who are working to restore the content left out of the game. Diablo2 was mediocre. Not much plot, lots of repetitive clicking.

It's rumored that KOTOR3 is in the works.. and I really hope so. Hopefully Bioware is doing it again, and LA will actually let them finish.

It's also fun when RPG elements are combined into other genres, like FPS's. Deus Ex is the shining example of how great that can be.

I've always thought the FF games were rather stupid, and most of the other dwarf/elf/magic/blah "D&D on computer" type RPGs don't appeal to me. A well done LOTR game might have potential, though.

Well I wouldnt recommend Lionheart the gameplay and story was rather stale and boring, the only thing it had going for it was the rather unique setting it will also be hard to find now Black Isle is gone.

Lionheart had a great story ... and the setting truly was beautyfull ... too bad i couldn't overlook the annoying, boring , repetitive combats enough to finnish the game :( - but i must say that i enjoyed the city exploring / city quests part.
I also disliked Arcanum because once i got to level 50 i was WAY to powerfull for anything in the game at the moment (i played it twice and never finnished it because i got bored) - i was either desintegrating everything or blasting everything with the elephant gun ... it soon became boring, repetitive and unchalanging - the story was cool though :)

Black Isle had great ideas (stories) for great games - too bad they are gone .

If Diablo 2 counts as an RPG, I play that as much as Civ. My kids got me hooked when it first came out and we still play whether they are home or away. I do not play on battle net though; The upgrade to ver 1.11 made things so much harder.

this is a much earlier post, but i do think that it is hilarious. I love Diablo 2, and I do have to admit, the new patch really threw off my game. I was doing some harmless hacking and therefore I lost my account. I recently purchased a new copy, and yes, it is an rpg and I love it.

I agree on Arcanum- i chose a dum, ugle brute, who very soon into the game, simply hit anything on the head and killed it outright!

I've been wondering if i should buy Temple of Elemantal Evil is it worth getting? it looks ok but I've heard it was a let down.(I think its funny when people claim to know about rpg's but dont recognise my avatar)

Hmm, I guess I won't try either of those... I haven't played NWN or Morrowind yet though.

ToEE is a decent game. It needs a pretty powerful system to run properly, and the story is mediocre, but the combat system is fabulous. Sort of like IWD but with better combat. I quite enjoyed it during the period when I played it, though I happened to be real busy at the time, so I only played a few hours per week and didn't get tired of it. There's a good fan-made mod which fixes a good number of problems with the game.
