Do your games always have Christianity as the 1st found religion?

Even so, they're very much Confucian, Indeed when you see Religion maps these days, North Korea is colored Confucian.
Also the Mongols found Tengriism too

Yeah, I didn't list the DLC civs. You can find their religious preferences in the same way, though. If nobody beats me to it, then I'll update my list with the DLC civs later tonight when I have access to Civ.

Nobody takes Sikhism as long as I can tell - I always do since it looks like a sword. lol

North Korea is officially atheist and most of it's population are irreligious.

IMO the Mongols should prefer to found Tengriism too.

The file that you're looking for is ..\Path\To\Sid Meier's Civilization V\Assets\DLC\Expansion\Gameplay\XML\Civilizations\CIV5Civilizations.xml. You can search for "Civilization_Religions", which should bring you to line #4902. You can find the G&K civilizations in CIV5Civilizations_Expansion.xml, starting at line #414.

Christianity: America, Aztec, England, France, Germany, Greece, Iroquois, Rome, Russia, Austria, Byzantium, Celts, Ethiopia, Maya, Netherlands, Sweden, Spain
Islam: Arabia, Egypt, Ottoman, Songhai, Carthage
Taoism: China
Hinduism: India
Shinto: Japan
Zoroastrianism: Persia
Buddhism: Siam
Tengriism: Huns

The general rule is that the preferred religion is the one that was most prevalent or most official during the leader's reign or, if that religion is not implemented, then the one that is most common today.

I kinda like this. Hindu or Buddhist Arabs of Civ4 were always kind of over the top. Realism is always a good thing in Civ.

So, if you want to pick Christianity for yourself everytime, just go in and edit the file.

Thanx but clicking on the name of the religion and changing that to Protestantism or whatevr is fine :goodjob:

Just wanted to know if this happens to other dudes as well, now i know that most civs go for Christianity..

Actually North Korea has a religion

Its Jeshu or something - [looking up quickly] will edit so I don't butcher name

"Juche" its called - but yes North Korea does have a religion - very modern and being institutionalized by the state

Anyone know if there are preferences for DLC? I couldn't find them.

Juche is not a religion. It's a political thesis. The main idea is that the Korean people are responsible for Korea and should rely on strong military pressure and local Korean resources to keep others from interfering with Korea. It's a form of socialism. It's not a religion.

Korea's religion is Confucianism in Civ V, likely because Korean Confucianism was the predominant religion during the Joseon (Choson) Dynasty. In fact, 65% of North Koreans and 46% of South Koreans today are irreligious. Of those remaining, Christianity and Buddhism are popular in both N. and S. Korea and traditional shamanistic beliefs are additionally common in North Korea.

Louis XXIV: I added the DLC civs to my other post. If you want to find them yourself, search for the same table in the appropriate files. For Mongolia, that would be here: ..\Path\To\Sid Meier's Civilization V\Assets\DLC\Expansion\DLC\DLC_01\Gameplay\XML\CIV5Civilization_Mongol.xml

It is a political thesis but the difference is- many religious studies experts have mentioned how the indoctrination of it is in fact transforming it into something that of an early form a religion [still in its melding point]. Obviously its hard to observe outside of the country - but journalists, some experts, and well even a few North Koreans outside of North Korea have begun to state it is more a religion than a dogma now.

There are various websites/books also talking about the rise of it as a religion. Would be what the 5th/sixth biggest religion then?

This actually works to my advantage because I enjoy the shinto's gates so i grab it first if i can, anything else is secondary lol.

I prefer Autocracy Songun, but that probably wouldn't be as... attractive as Self-Sufficiency Through Doublethink!

This. I almost said Juche for North Korea but didn't for the reasons you state. Simply brilliant Kwami :goodjob:.

This would be a valid point to make except that the conclusion that Juche is a religion isn't universally accepted by scholars or people inside/outside of North Korea. Indoctrination? Certainly. Religion? Bit of a stretch. Even your statement supports this: if it is 'transforming' into an early form of a religion, then by defitinition it is not a religion.

if the celts or ethiopia are on the map than Christianity usually gets founded first.(i have seen Buddhist celts which was funny). if the celts and ethepia are not on the map i have seen islam or Hinduism founded first. Often though it is Christianity.

One of my chuckliest moments in G&K was witnessing a jewish Harun in mortal combat with an islamic Washington....

I've seen Christianity go first maybe 2 or 3 times. For me, a lot of the times it's Buddhism and/or Hinduism that go first. And it'll be some of the most unconventional Civs to get them. I've come across the English and the Spanish as founders of Buddhism in two cases, and on another occasion, the Romans founded Hinduism. There was one more game I played where the Byzantines founded Confucianism.

I wish they didn't assign religions based on modern geographic area. Like Babylon and Islam. There's no real basis and Islam is nothing like the native Mesopotamian religion. Same with Carthage and Islam. I'd rather they had no preference and just randomly choose one.
