Whats a good software to organize all the documents on my computer?

I want things to be such that stuff can be searchable... maybe a tag feature or something? I dunno... just want to be able to effectively retrieve documents and whatnot.

Perhaps there'll be something under one of these links:

Another box of goodies that pretty much explains itself. If your files & folders are a disorganized mess & organizing them is now top of your 'to-do' list check out these tools.

In this case "Other" means File Manager programs that can be used as an alternative to Windows Explorer. Most offer additional features &/or more flexibility.

If Windows Explorer is your File Manager of choice here are some add-ons, enhancements, extensions that add to it's features.

Also there's lots of shell extensions here, both freeware and shareware:

I'm looking for a good one myself, and actually started writing one myself, as nothing quite fits the bill for me. Stuff i have tried:

Google Docs:

+ You can upload all sorts of documents
+ Tags
+ Full text search
- Can't upload more than 100 pdfs
- No inbuild way to systematically save bibtex infos on papers, or dedicated fields for authors

Evernote:

As above, but with a monthly upload limit of 50 MB instead of 100pdfs.

Gpapers:

+ Full text search
+ Dedicated fields for bibtex and authors
- Only pdfs can be saved
- Inconvenient installation procedure
- Offline software, so you have to carry it with you

What i want is a database, which can store and save documents (mostly pdfs), with tags, annotations, and custom metainfo.

I'd just get used to the "My Recent Documents" tab in the Start window of XP. It's free.

Short of that, there is an enhanced version of the XP Search function that can be downloaded from the Microsoft website. I felt it was a bit of a resource hog, but I think it's very customizable for search depth vs. resources.
