In my current game, I teched Iron working with oracle just so I could grab it before Rome, only to find out Rome already settled near it. That city has no food, no water. I checked world editor. Rome doesn't even has broze working.
The AI knows the location of every resource in the game before researching the requisite techs.
..... in Civ3.
As far as I recall it has been proven to not be the case in 4.

Ah. They changed it, then? I always worked under the assumption that it knew. Not that it really mattered to my way of playing, mind you, but still good to know![]()

terrible..... btw, iron is pretty common, it's not so strange, AI spam cities in terrible places all the times.

I really needed IW 30 turns before everyone else. I started in Siberia, and the grass were just greener in their land. As August settled near the only iron around, all military resource are like 10 roads away, deep into the barbarian territor.
I should see that coming when my starting points has gold, silver, and 2 wheet.

How much have you been paid by Firaxis, you obedient instrument of pro-Firaxis propaganda?! It's the duty of every independent thinker on the planet to denounce the secret manipulation of Firaxis and their brainwashed sheeple! The Firaxis Conspiracy has its agents in every government in the world, and they wouldn't hesitate to bribe these governments, so that they would spread disinformation about the lying, cheating, dirty Civ4.Phew - lots of misinformation in this thread, let's see if I can clear it up.

Civ4's AI does not know the location of hidden resources, nor does it see the full map (as has been claimed here).
